Publisher's Summary

The richest of New York's rich gather at the Pierre's Cotillion Room to raise money for those less fortunate. The mayor - with Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald of the elite NYPD Red task force providing security - is on hand to applaud the Silver Bullet Foundation's new plan for public housing.

A fatal blast rocks the room, stirring up horrifying memories of 9/11. Is the explosion an act of terrorism - or a homicide?

A big-name female filmmaker is the next to die, in a desolate corner of New York City. Zach and Kylie investigate, and the intimate details of the director's life remind them of their own impossible situation - their personal relationship seems as unsolvable as the murders.

The crimes keep escalating, and the perpetrators may be among the A-list New Yorkers NYPD Red was formed to protect. Their insane pursuit of ever-greater pleasures, indulgences, and thrills could be the catalyst of destruction on an unthinkable scale. Zach and Kylie track a shadowy killer as he masterfully plays out his vendetta-and threatens to take down NYPD Red in the bargain.

Good book, good series Excellent Narrator!

I found this book to be exactly what I expected it to be from Patterson and Karp. This is a good solid series with all the requirements for a mystery novel.
This book has two major plots going on. One is the murder of a sex addicted woman in the film industry. The other is that of a bomber in NYC who is assumed to be a terrorist.
The publisher's summary sets up the book very well and I would not want to add anything else that might ruin this for anyone else. There are a few unexpected twists especially at the end with the terrorist case.
This book is certainly worth the credit.
Now Edoardo Ballerini is fantastic. I always look forward to listening to him and he did not disappoint.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A Tight and Twisty Crime Thriller

The interplay of main and supporting characters provides an excellent background to a solid Police Procedural Drama! The surprising ending leaves room for more novels in the NYPD-RED Series.

Can't stand Det. Kylie McDonald

This is the 5th NYPD Red book I've listened to. I am a big James Patterson fan. I love the Red stories, but I can not stand Kylie McDonald's character. She is an arrogant bully and one of the biggest know-it-all characters ever written. She treats people like crap, but expects people to treat her like the queen of the world. She never admits to being wrong and refuses to apologize when she screws up. This, in turn, makes it hard to like Zack, her "partner." Any heroic thing he does is only because Kylie tells him to or he is trying to protect her. As the reader/listener you want to think he is a strong, independent, smart police detective, but he only does things Kylie wants him to do. It is very frustrating as a reader.
I really wanted to like Kylie - #girlpower - but she is a bully and puts the women's movement back about 20 years by using her looks and sexuality to get what ever she wants.
Sorry Mr. Patterson - Zack needs a new partner

NYPD red great stories

Of course I’m a little behind in reading these stories back to back to back however James Patterson is an excellent writer but I don’t believe he really needs to be so explicit about sexual behaviors in the stories we don’t need to see that to understand what’s going on unfortunately I guess they feel that this is the only way to hold a readers attention not in my mind I could do without all that things that they prefer or refer to between partners and their sex partners and Zack‘s sex life we don’t really need that in the story he’s an excellent writer he can do without that stuff or if he continues to write that way these books need to be rated based on content

Well read

I am a fan of Mr Patterson's books and most of the time enjoy the reading. Though this time the narrator, while doing a great job with our main character, I didn't care for his voicing of the female characters.
