RED PLANET--- by Robert A. Heinlein

One of Heinlein's best 'juvenile' books, though the themes and content go a surprisingly long way beyond what is expected from even a modern Y/A novel---a very engaging book, even if modern scientific knowledge of Mars tells us there aren't any canals...

another thoughtful adventure

Heinlein is thought-provoking, all while telling a rollicking tale, thorough adventure, and pretty visionary sci-fi. great narrator also!

Pure enjoyment

Part of the magic of this book is when it was written. Heinlein envision of the future is amazing. This is young adult fiction written from a boys view but still a delightful sci-fi read.

Still as moving a read 50 years later.

I read this story when in my teens. Still as moving and compelling as then.

Very enjoyable

This book was a nice break from my usual horror novels. It was light listening but with enough intrigue to keep me interested. I really enjoyed it beginning to end and recommend it for anyone whos looking for something wanting a bit of time travel listening for all ages.

Out of date for what we know, but a fun adventure!

Read this the first time in 1959 & got totally hooked on Science Fiction! Yes, our knowledge of Mars has considerably changed since 1949 when this was written, but the story is great and could be transposed to a company mining town in the USA around the turn of the 20th century with extremely harsh living conditions; like Star Wars was similar to a John Houston horse opera but in space.
This book is clean & fun for kids and anyone who loved/still loves Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov's stories - it took poetic license with Mars topography but we could wish it were true!

Enjoyable classic Heinlein

I found this one to be a nice easy and enjoyable story that still had some nice “thought stimulation” aspect to it.
I enjoyed the picture it painted of Mars colonisation and the relationship between humans and Martians
