Publisher's Summary

Marathons have become too easy for some runners. What was once the pinnacle of achievement in a runner's life is now a stepping stone for extraordinary adventure in ultramarathoning. The number of ultrarunners - those running distances of 50k (31 miles), 50 miles, 100k (62 miles), or 100 miles - is growing astronomically each year.

Dean Karnazes's Ultramarathon Man and Chris McDougall's Born to Run have inspired tens of thousands to try these seemingly superhuman distances. But to date, there has been no practical guide to ultramarathoning. Now, Bryon Powell has written Relentless Forward Progress, the first how-to manual for aspiring ultrarunners.

Powell covers every aspect of training for and racing ultra distances. This encyclopedic volume prepares runners for going farther than they have ever gone before and, in the process, shows them that they are capable of the "impossible."

Bonus PDF

Enjoyed the program. But would have liked the bonus PDF and all the training plans mentioned by the author in this book. Otherwise it is incomplete.

Good for those with zero running knowledge

This is an average how to book on trail running. All of this information is online and probably easier to obtain than listening to the audio book. I would suggest buying the hard copy of this book vs the audio book if you really wan this. It is a basic instructional.

Great info!

This book is packed with great information and advice on how to run an ultra. The training plan that comes with the book is simple and a great guide to begin a training program. If you're thinking about going the ultra distances. Check out this audio book!

Great book but annoying voice

If you’re thinking of running an ultra, this is a good book to snag. Personally the narrator’s voice was really annoying, but I was able to get through it. I would still recommend.

If you need motivation or help to start training..

This book was very helpful with my training for my first Ultra. I was a bit discouraged about some of his opinions but I understand why he holds his opinion about training. I've never been in a single sport and I'm clueless about how to train/practice and this book helped with that

Some helpful insight here.

Great to listen to some chapters when running. I found it helpful to look at the chapters and bounce around.

Lots to learn for an aspiring ultra runner

For an aspiring ultra runner, this was like listening to a seasoned ultra friend give every bit of advice they could think of. I took so many notes during the first several chapters to help reinforce what I was learning. I can't wait to incorporate some of this knowledge into my training. I gave it 4 stars instead of five because it was a little clinical at times. A few more personal stories would have made it more interesting. Thanks!

Great info for running long

Tons of great information for beginner and veteran runners alike. A decent performance for what could be a slow read at times. This book will help build a solid knowledge base to get out and run long or enter your first ultra. Having run more than ten various ultra distance races I still get useful reminders when I go back and read this book again after a hard race.

Some great practical advise

If your looking for inspiration....this isn’t the book for you, however if your looking for practice useable information then it could be of use!
I took some great bits of info from the book, and while it was slightly dry I appreciated that it’s a different type of book and not one made for inspiration or motivation, much more of a how to guide than any of that.

Bonus PDF

Would like to point out that some of the other reviews have said that it would be more useful with the PDF. You can download the PDF through Audible.

The narration was not ideal but I did like the book. Some useful info and some good anecdotes. I give it 3 out of 5 because it was good enough that I got to the end but I did lose interest by then. Felt a little padded out and could have been much more concise and better organised.
