Publisher's Summary

Captain Alisa Marchenko finally has a lead on finding her daughter, but her passengers want her to take them on their quest instead. Even though the Star Nomad is her ship, they have power she cannot fight, and she finds herself with no choice but to accept another detour.

But the ancient relic they seek has the ability to destroy worlds and is coveted by many. The path leading to it is riddled with competitors and littered with the dead, and even a cyborg and a Starseer may not be strong enough to fight the obstacles in the way.

Swept up in a fate she never chose, Alisa must find a way to survive against impossible odds, knowing that if her passengers succeed, they will change the course of history - maybe not for the better.

Small plot development / nothing technically new

When the author brought out the staff of power, a six foot long staff with a gem imbedded in one end, It brought back
a memory of the TVs series star gate with the
Ori staff of power. Across the board, all authors are displaying just how difficult
It is in 2017 to come up with new and unused
science / tech and physics concepts.
At least this story has an ongoing banter to fill the void.

Wonderful adventure!

Fast paced adventure, combined with great characters makes this entire series a real treat. Kate Readimg's performance is excellent, as she brings the characters to life in full color. I loved "Relic of Sorrows" and can't wait for the next book, "Cleon Moon".

Tell the exact same story just change the location

The characters are identical to the first book. No one learns or changes, Spare yourself the time.

Frass...but then...

The development of this story is still, in my opinion, random!

Worst, the story has devolved into a romance/sex novel, which does not add to the reason I wanted to listen to this story.

I was going to stop with this book, but it does have merits. One is the quippy banter between the crew, which can be funny. The other is half the book stays on target with the storyline. I have been fast-forwarding through the bedroom talk, and wish I was reading a printed copy so it would be easier to page forward to story!

With that in mind, I will continue on to the next book!

Strong female characters

Entertaining storyline. Well developed characters.
The story starts to drag, with too much "thoughts of physical relationships"....
The getting caught by frienemies... then escaping is getting old.
Also, the crying of no $ for weapon upgrades, or repair the ship,... gets old, plus when you walk thru ancient tomb in a space rift, filled with powerful relics and a dragon's lair full of gold and no one stuffs their pockets or backpacks with anything... weak...
ßut... I still enjoy this "guardians of the galaxy" romp.

Well Worth a Listen

The Lindsay Buroker books that I have listened to so far are a perfect fit to audio "reading." Relic of Sorrows is spot on for that venue. There is enough depth and background to the story to make it interesting, but it is still relatively light listening. All of the characters are fun and just complex enough to not be cliche's. I love the fact that Alissa Marchenko is a bit on edge of the OCD spectrum and a strong independent woman and portrayed as very real person. Neither damsel in distress nor fearless amazon, she is believable. I am sure that Lindsay's characters might be seen as stereotypes, but in my real world experience most of us can be boiled down to some simple stereotypes. So, I love her characters.

Slightly Disappointing

Loved the first 3 books, they were excellent. In this 4rd book the lead character went from a strong willed character to stereotypical damsel in distress. Excellent narration as usual though.

I’m really enjoying these books

It took me a while to get used to the narrator’s voice, I wasn’t keen at first but I’ve got used to it now. Slightly dodgy on the male voices, but I expect it’s quite difficult to get that right as a woman. The wit and sarcasm is read perfectly though and I often find myself laughing out loud.

Onto the next book now as I’m totally invested in this story.

Good continuation of the story

Character development continues as we learn a little more about the two protagonists. The action scenes are very enjoyable as always. Kate Reading's narration is great. The story moved along quite nicely and I look forward to the next book.
