Publisher's Summary

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Critic Reviews

“Narrators Brittany Pressley and Ryan West depict a story of triumph in a hopeless situation.… The audiobook has excellent pacing and gives equal attention to the relationships among Kenna, Ledger, and Diem. Pressley so expertly illustrates Kenna's desperation that listeners will hope for her redemption. While the two narrators have opposite approaches, West as gruff Ledger and Pressley as wilted Kenna, they complement each other as the audiobook progresses.”AudioFile Magazine

“Hoover delves deep into grief and guilt to create a multifaceted redemption story for a cast of characters who fight as fiercely as they love. Fans won’t be disappointed.”Publishers Weekly

“With captivating dialogue, angst-y characters, and a couple of steamy sex scenes, Hoover has done it again.”Kirkus Reviews

Well written book

I’ve read all of Colleen Hoover’s books and am a huge fan of her style of writing. This particular book did not disappoint and held true to her writing style. The plot was solid, the characters were very relatable and the overall storytelling process was well-done. If you are a Colleen Hoover fan or just looking for a good book to start reading from her, this is a good start. There of course is tragedy in the book as there is in almost all of her books, but this one had a good sense of hope that keeps you reading. Overall enjoyable read.

Oh my weary heart..

Well, It’s a little hard to see what I am typing through the tears that have been flowing out of my eyes for the past two hours but what an emotional and incredible journey that Colleen Hoover just took me on. I am not sure how it’s possible but I feel like the learning curve I was exposed to of loss and perception in this book has helped shape my mind a little. Thank you Colleen Hoover! ❤️❤️

I have read all the books by Colleen Hoover

I loved this story. It didn't make me cry like most of her books do, but it was still great, very heartfelt.

Colleen Hoover does it again!

I inhaled this book the day it was released and couldn’t stop listening. I was moved to tears several times, and loved the way the author builds up the tension of the story by trickling details of the characters lives out slowly.

The narrators have an excellent performance and brought the story to life. I can’t wait for Hoover’s next book.

Perfect summer holiday read.

You immediately buy into the character's life, As the tale takes you on an unconventional path through heartache and loss. I enjoyed this book, not my normal genre but pleasant enough.

Time consuming

It was ok, a very long journey to get to a predictable ending. I considered giving up at several points but persevered to the end. Like I say it was ok.

Cheesy

Two-dimensional characters and a storyline that could have worked on Days of Our Lives. No idea how this has been rated so highly. Brittany's performance was annoying, she always sounded like everything was just....so....haaaaaaard. I understand the character is going through an awful time, but the OTT performance was grating.

How can someone’s mind be so heartbreakingly beautiful?

I have no words for this book. This is my first Colleen Hoover novel and I’m flawed by the complexities, the way in which she writes makes me feel… I can’t even explain how I feel. I am not overly emotional, takes quite a bit for me to tear up but THIS, this book … amazing. Colleen Hoover, you have a new, number one fan. I loved it. Amazing audible readings as well, props to the actors who brought this to life.

A new storyline I hadn't read before

I really enjoyed this book. Firstly, the two narrators are so easy to listen to. Both their voices fit the characters so well.

Secondly, the way the author has written this book is so efortless to get lost in the storyline and pining for the main character as more is revealed throughout. The letters are such a unique way of letting rhe reader in. This isnt one of those smutty romance novels. The spicy scenes are there to add value to the character arc rather than get you off which was refreshing as I feel other authors lose a sense of seamlessness surrounding those types of scenes.

From tragedy to beauty

Wow I loved this book. It was such a tragic story of a mother losing her daughter. Again I could not put this book down thinking again about what will happen next and hoping it will be a happy ending for Kenna and her daughter.
