Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Together with the unit's medic, Eva finds herself branded a terrorist and enemy of the state, hunted by two opposing governments. My name is Alphonse Malloy, and I see everything. From a simple glance, I know your hobbies, what you ate for breakfast, how well you slept, and whether or not your wife is secretly seeing the high school biology teacher when you're not around. I can't explain how or why I get these feelings, only that I know they're true. All the little secrets you're too afraid to tell. Sometimes, that means helping people. Other times, it means staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. I wish I could tell you I was using this ability for good.

Publisher's Summary
Renegade Star: Publisher's Pack 7 contains books 13 and 14 of the Renegade Star series.
Renegade Alliance, book 13
An ancient world holds many secrets.
With the Celestial ship Tartarus now under his command, the former Renegade known as Jace Hughes heads toward a lost colony in search of answers. What he finds may change the war forever.
Meanwhile, the Celestials are drawing closer to locating Earth with every passing day. With an invasion looming, the Alliance has little time to prepare its forces. The Union, Sarkonians, and Earth must unite together or die alone.
Renegade Evolution, book 14
The truth about the gods will set you free.
Jace Hughes and the people of Earth have joined with the Union and the Sarkonians to create the largest alliance in human history. They have amassed a wealth of weapons, shields, and the strongest military ever conceived. But it may not be enough.
The Celestials have gone on the offensive, attacking Alliance colonies and key points of interest throughout the galaxy, destroying valuable resources that humanity needs to fight back. And no one can stop them. Except that somewhere, buried in the distant stars of the galaxy, hope remains alive.
On a ringworld known as Elysia, Jace and his crew search desperately for answers. It was here that the Celestials first discovered alien technology and used it to transform themselves. If a weakness is to be found, then perhaps it exists somewhere in this lost, forgotten ring. But the enemy is already on their way, and time is running out.
If you’re a fan of Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, or Indiana Jones, you’ll love this space opera epic.

Revisit books 11 & 12 first if it’s been a while..
First - the bloopers at the end were hysterical! I hope they keep doing this.
I listened to Book One in Chaney’s new series “Wayward Galaxy” right after finishing his newest “Renegade Star” installment. Had I rated this first, I likely would have done 4 stars for the story. But I’m glad I waited. In fairness, almost any audiobook abutting the perfection of Wayward Galaxy is going to suffer by comparison, but it was good to be reminded that three stars is not a bad rating. By definition, it is “Pretty Good”.
I don’t want to discourage folks from this installment, because it truly is pretty good and worth a listen if you like the series.
About 10 minutes in I realized I wasn’t feeling attached to the story, which surprised me because I really love the series and characters.
I decided to revisit the last few chapters of books 11 and 12 and VWALLAH! That did the trick.
I’ll be on board for 15 and 16. It will keep me listening if Chaney finds a way to write fresh content without gimmicks and deja vu moments, all the while staying true to the characters we know.

The best books of the series!
Fun and very entertaining. Luke Daniels makes another award winning narrative that’s probably the best of all audiobooks I have listen to. Wow.
The story is getting better and guess JN Chaney has put a little more time in writing this. I have no idea how he can release 12 different series at the same time. But the quality of the other books isn’t close to this one. Keep this series running!

A rocking good time
Like the others before it, this entry in the series delivers the goods and preps you for what's to come. The series has taken us all over the galaxy to strange and wonderful places. My son and I have listened to each of these and enjoyed them. While we're sad to see the story end with the next set of books (Publisher's Pack 8, hopefully coming soon), we are very excited to find out where our favorite characters end up when the smoke clears.
Jace Hughes has become one of my all time favorite scifi heroes, and that is saying something. He's up there with Han Solo for the top spot, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read or listened to these books. I've been reading and listening to science fiction for decades and I'm still shocked that authors like Chaney can come up with fresh and fun stories after all this time.
During the break between Pub Pack 6 and 7, I also picked up The Variant Saga (Chaney's first series) and quite enjoyed that as well. He has a raw talent that is so rare, focusing on telling stories for people like me who remember the golden age of pulpy scifi and serials. You just don't see stories like that as often as you used to, but Chaney has made a career of it.
Here's hoping the conclusion in Pub Pack 8 can live up to the hype that this series has built. I know our expectations are through the roof!

If you're in the mood for a fun story line with action, comedy and believe it or not decent humanistic values in the main characters then, look no further this series is for you! But to top it off it's brought to you by one of the best narrator's this side of our galaxy, Mr. Luke Daniels!!
Honestly, what more could an audreader want or need? BTW, bloopers at the end are as always a royal crack up!!
