A one-stop start-up guide from an accountant-turned-restaurateur.

Ninety percent of all restaurants fail, and those that succeed happened upon that mysterious X factor, right? Wrong! Updated to address current trends such as food trucks and to tackle online opportunities (and pitfalls!) including Groupon, Yelp, and Twitter, Restaurant Success by the Numbers remains a critical resource for navigating the food industry. Opening a restaurant isn't easy, but this realistic dreamer's guide helps set the table for lasting success.

Interesting and comprehensive!

I really enjoyed this book. I would say it's best suited for those who are genuinely interested in starting a restaurant as it is quite involved and delves into the minutiae of operations, pricing, concept, etc, etc.

I appreciated the authors background as it lends credibility to his recommendations. The performance is also good and I never found myself focusing on the voice actors idiosyncrasies or speaking manner - he represents the material really well. A book this detailed could get boring quickly (even if you do want to open a restaurant), but the reader adds a lot of emotion and energy to the story which keeps it engaging.

I would highly recommend that would be restaurateurs pick this book up and give it a couple of listens - take notes!

Very few errors. Definitely recommend.

The only 2 negatives I have about this is the heavy focus on urban areas and specifically New York (not a big deal, though), and the part on the legal structures. He is mostly correct from an accounting standpoint, but I would 100% recommended you seek a legal professional when it comes to the entity you choose. His knowledge of s-corps and LLCs was lacking from a legal position quite a bit. As long as you go into this book understanding that last part, then I highly recommend this book for restaurants owners and soon to be owners.

Probably better in the print version

I've thought about opening my own restaurant for years, and this book gave me a lot of good advice to think about. But it reads like a business textbook, with lots of calculations and formulas that probably work better in the printed version. I zoned out for large sections of some chapters when the narrator just kept running through formulas and calculations.

The bits I liked the best were some of the anecdotes about other peoples' restaurant success or failures and how that translated to advice for someone wanting to start their own. I don't feel like I was misled in what I got, but I wish the book included more of that (or that there was a different book that was more about that).

Good info, not what I needed.

I think I was looking for something more in depth, this is for someone unfamiliar with the industry.
