Arthur's still bitter and broken after his last lover stabbed him in the back, and the last thing he needs is another brush with evil. “You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

Publisher's Summary
Riley thought he knew what to expect from college, but he never planned for angels, demons, or a team of attractive, overprotective guardians.
When one fateful night opens his eyes to a world he never knew existed, Riley Shepard must navigate a host of supernatural dangers, all while struggling with new and confusing feelings for his guardian angels. With the promise of friends, family, and freedom finally within his grasp, he fears not only for his heart but for his life, as well.
Lucky for him, some things are worth dying for.
Revelations is the first book in the slow-burn harem/poly romance series Fire & Brimstone, featuring hurt/comfort, swoon-worthy guardian angels, sexual awakening, and an unlikely hero, too innocent for his own good.
Trigger warnings include: situations of homophobia (both external and internal), past child abuse, self-harm, mental health, and one instance (prologue) of nongraphic sexual assault.

slowwwww burn indeed but worth it
Audio: 4.5⭐️
In his nineteen years, Riley Shepard has been abandoned, abused, institutionalized and conditioned. His only moments of fractured peace came when he submitted to whatever punishment or circumstance he was confronted with. Thus, the most Riley hopes for from college is to be allowed a small measure of freedom to learn and tangentially experience life as a “normal” young adult. Having been taught to cower away from confrontations, feelings and physical contact by the only foster parent that kept him, Ms. Janet, and his own crippling social anxiety, Riley is treated like a servant by his obnoxious, bullying roommate and only has one friend, the kindhearted RA that takes pity on him.
That changes when he meets the intriguing, yet opposite in every way Jai and Noel. As he runs into them on campus and his wariness wears away, he finds himself drawn to the men, and after a series of strange events, Riley learns why. Believing guardian angels are real is relatively easy for Riley—believing that he is somehow worthy of not one but three is something he struggles with…until some of his past is revealed.
As the first book in a series, “Revelations” is a very character driven story. While there is some action, the majority of the book centers on getting to know Riley and portraying the depths of religious and psychological conditioning he experienced at the hands of his abusive foster mother and how it dictates his behavior. Knight does an excellent job in making sure that Riley’s inclination to roll over and show throat in every situation (no matter how uncomfortable it makes him) provokes sympathy rather than irritation. As a reader who has little patience for characters that spend the majority of their inner monologues whinging about how bossy their besties are, while refusing to stand up to them, I appreciated the in-depth approach Knight takes in examining Riley’s mental landscape and trauma.
That being said, this is a rough book to get through in some regards. Riley is too precious and innocent for this world; with Ms. Janet still terrorizing him from afar and threatening to pull him out of school if he isn’t a “good boy”, every interaction this poor baby has is fraught for one reason or another, even with people he likes, filling his day to day life with anxiety, fear, pressure and self-disgust. The few glimpses of what his true personality might be like when he interacts with Jai are welcome breaks.
Additionally, the slow-burn promised in the blurb is glacial. This is not a complaint or a bad thing and makes absolute sense for all the characters and the story. Riley has been trained to view physical contact and attraction to men as sinful so sexual feelings aren’t even on his radar; for the majority of the story, he berates himself for enjoying holding hands and platonic hugs. As for Riley’s Guardians, while the narrative makes it clear that angels in this world are sexual beings and that Jai and Noel are far from virginal, it’s heavily implied that sexual feelings towards their wards is rare. Moreover, Gideon, the prime in the trio of Guardians, is almost as averse to touch as Riley is. There are indications that the natural protectiveness and care the Guardians have for Riley is more intense and personal than usual, and by the end, Riley has become aware that he’s attracted to his Guardians. However aside from a few hints that Noel (the only self-proclaimed gay guy) is sexually attracted to Riley, things remain platonic.
As a book so heavily structured around understanding Riley, narration is super important and Kirt Graves does not disappoint. As usual, Graves manages to deliver a balanced, natural performance that doesn’t try to create drama in quieter scenes or turn emotional moments into overwrought drama, and I honestly never expected to find words like “coitus” and “defiled” expressed in such a prim, pearl-clutching way utterly charming, but Graves pulls it off. Riley’s naïveté, struggles and small triumphs are conveyed with heartstring- pulling sincerity; I could feel his anxiety, panic and quiet joy. There’s a scene where Riley is being accosted by a spoiled sexual predator that I almost couldn’t handle; I’m not sure if I would have experienced Riley’s overwhelming panic and terror as viscerally if I had been reading. I highly enjoyed his take on the characters, and found “Revelations” to be a solid, engaging poly story that I look forward to continuing.

Self Deprecation Gets Real Old....Real Fast!!!
The MC Reilly is not a real likable character. In fact he kinda, really pisses me off. I get that some childhoods are worse than others but there are no redeeming qualities about him other than being innocent. He's literally afraid of his own shadow and everyone else's. He's a pushover and has absolutely no backbone. I'm about ready to quit this book.
I've made it to chapter 12 now and still...nope. Reilly is a frickin coward and again no backbone whatsoever. The self loathing just goes on and on and on and on .....
Kirt Graves is awesome as usual but he can't save this trainwreck.

Get the book
It's not perfect but its a great read. Had me crying fairly reguarly. I think the biggest pet peeve of mine was the language used and the behavior of the angels. I can somewhat understand Riley but the angels seemed more immature than their years would have caused them to be. I would have liked an explanation as to why that was so I could rationalize it.

Unexpectedly obsessed
I went into this because I saw MMM and Kirt Graves narration…. I thought I was going to get a sex heavy book with little plot. What I actually got was a slow burn build up with so much soul I was sobbing at work.
Before you start this, (I don’t really feel like this is a spoiler, because it was obvious if you know how to see it) know it deals with mental and physical abuse as well as anxiety and ongoing issues.

The world's longest prologue.
This is fairly good ground work from which to build a story. That said, it's basically just a very very long winded prologue. This could have been effectively delivered as a one hour short story. I'm afraid to buy the next in series as I would not be able to listen through even more hours of droning on and on. Lastly, the main character is rather boring, and by halfway through you're ready for someone to drown him in a bathtub so you don't have to listen to his whining.

Two guardian angels are better than one
Oh wow, a new poly/harem type novel with gods, demons and monsters which greatly whet this little insatiable listener’s appetite! And Kirt Graves to alleviate this book to a whole other level? I hate the fact that other books in the series are not out on audio yet because I just CAN’T wait for more deliciousness!
Riley is a very vivid and lifelike character with a lot of experiences that we can relate to. He really didn’t luck out with his foster mother and he still ended up with a very homophobic roommate in college. It was simply heartbreaking to see see what he had experienced so far. Regardless, there’s always a rainbow at the end of a violent storm and two guardians angels were sent to him to protect our lovely little Riley. And his life as he knew it never again is the same. I really really can’t wait to get to listen the second book in the series because I’m so so eager to find out what Riley is and what his continued journey will be. Highly recommended if you love paranormal romances!

The first couple of hours are quite compelling because you think something is going to happen. It is not. When the angels finally speak they are so cliched and hackneyed with camp yet totally unfunny innuendo. The main character is spineless and has such terrible social anxiety that you want to slap him. If I was his room mate, I would prank him too.
I was expecting some demons and arcane action, and yet we encounter one demon briefly and some dogs from the bowels of the earth even more briefly. Other than that, there is no story, other than the repetitive badly written dialog between the angels and our boring hero. The endless recaps and explanations when nothing has actually happened to warrant a recap, pads out this 1 hour story to an astonishing 8 hours.
Kirt Graves, the narrator, is its only saving grace.
Utter drivel. Avoid!

An interesting start to a series
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this novel. I don’t read many paranormal books, but the synopsis intrigued me, and I knew when the opportunity arose to listen to this book, I had to give it a shot. No small part of that was Kirt Graves. I love his narrations and his quality of work is always stellar. He definitely helped with my enjoyment of the story.
I also want to address thee myriad of trigger warnings – all of which are necessary and important. There were moments of great suffering for the main character, Riley. I was uncomfortable and I felt that pain. Now, I am an empathetic person. That being said, there were a few moments I struggled to keep going. The stories of the abuse Riley suffered as a child were devastating. The cruelty of his foster mother knew no bounds, and then he winds up with one of the most homophobic roommates on the entire campus. It often felt like Riley couldn’t catch a break, and anytime he tried to step out and have fun, his horrendous foster mother would intervene. You’d think being away and at college would have loosened her grip, but it didn’t. Her homophobia and puritanical views were unrelenting.
Okay, so now that the tough stuff is out of the way. The whole premise intrigued me. Two Guardian angels sent to protect Riley. They do just that one night and it becomes clear Riley is in danger. Now, I’m not familiar with this worldbuilding of angels, demons, creatures, and – frankly – violence. I could, however, relate to the tenderness and kindness of Jay and Noel. Even Gideon had his moments. Riley struggles with understanding what is going on around him. He planned a nice quiet education. He’s in for so much more than that.
Riley’s naïveté spoke to me. Not everyone experiences our sexualized culture the same way. He struggles with understanding his body’s yearnings versus the religious and zealous upbringing. There are no easy answers, but I like that he didn’t just jump into bed with anyone. There are more books and I foresee a sexual awakening, but I’m counting on it being done with decorum and kindness. God knows, Riley deserves to be treasured.
And so I hope the next book is available on audio soon. I’m so glad I listened to this one – disturbing parts and all. Finally I’ll mention the humor. Plenty of it to go around, lightening the piece. The powerful piece.

So good
I’ve read these books and when I saw them being narrated by Kirt Graves I knew I had to listen to them too.
Riley, Jai, Noel and Gideon are beautifully written characters with their differences and personalities so clear and in depth. The story is intricate and exhilarating and full of hidden gems and folklore. When you then add the genius that is Kirt Graves’ narration it becomes something not to be missed. I love these books. Love his narration. Put together they really are something very special.

Fantastic story and narration
I first enjoyed this story in the eBook format. I thought it was good but a little slow-moving to start. However, the audio version blew me away, and I have to credit narrator Kirt Graves with the increase in my rating of the story from 4 to 5 stars. The audio version brought an increased level of appreciation for the emotion and drama in the story. I could really feel Riley's emotions, his neurotic nature, and the effects of his abuse at the hands of his fanatic former foster parent. While there are certainly some painful, traumatic scenes, there is also a lot of caring and there is humor aplenty in the verbal sparing between the two seconds, Jai and Noel. I absolutely loved this audiobook and listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I am really looking forward to hearing more of the Scrolls on audio.
I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Riley and his guardian angels...
This a very slow burn/finding you are gay romance. Riley has been instilled gay is bad, his foster mom Ms Janet is an overly religious woman who took care of Riley but also abused him mentally. When Riley is assigned 3 guardians he starts to understand some things he learned were not right and that he might like boys. He is super sweet and hates confrontation, so his roommate treats him poorly. I enjoyed the story. This first book is just the beginning. The narration was good, there are so many characters sometimes voices get mix up in my brain.

Slow burn, coming of age, polyamory, paranormal
This is a new to me author.
I absolutely loved this book.
Poor Riley has been put through the wringer, hurt left and right by those who should be protecting him.
He's such a sweet boy and people just seem to walk all over him.
He's slowly coming out of his shell, navigating life on his own with the help of friends.
When he discovers a hidden truth about himself and reality as he knows it, his whole world is shattered.
As he struggles to make sense of it all, he's plunged into a world of mystisicim fraught with angels, demons, and powers he has no idea existed, along with a ready made team of Guardians.
Noel, Jai and Gideon are all ploar opposites but each brings intrinsic value to the family they've built.
There is no discernable romance between them, but Riley is questioning everything he ever belived about himself and these men find themselves attracted to each other and they seem to be trying to navigate their developing relationship.
I am eagerly awaiting the continuation of this story.
Kirt Graves did an amazing job.

An intense story and great start to the series
Oh wow! This was completely unexpected and such a fantastic read. I'd say that the first book in this series is very much character driven as we meet and get to know Riley as he then becomes aware of those around him not of the human realm. His Guardians come into his life, really at the right time as he struggles at college and is someone so much in need of friendship and care.
Riley's character breaks my heart. He's so loving and giving but has learned behaviours from his foster mother and finds it easier to submit to others rather than make a scene or stand up for himself. He has social anxiety, shyness and a really negative self view. It takes weeks for him to become comfortable around the two men that he keeps seeing and talking to around campus. Jai and Noel start to be important to him without him really noticing and then they come to his rescue, also introducing Gideon to his life. Those three men are an enigma, have a really interesting dynamic between them. We get a little bit of history about their roles and relationship but I'm hoping for a lot more in book two.
Most of the book is focused on Riley and his relationships but towards the end we get more interaction with the demonic side and it leaves for a really interesting end to the book with so much left to explore and expand upon in the next book.
I really enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend! It's a complete slow burn with hugs happening at most and the acknowledgement of feeling more than friendship. Looking forward to a HEA for Riley in this series.
I was looking forward to listening to this series and it doesn't disappoint. Kirk really brings the characters to life, especially Riley and, though at times it's hard to listen to, it is very worthwhile. I've read the whole series and know that the audio is going to be fantastically intense. My one thing would be to have maybe more pronounced/different voices for the main characters. There's not a lot to differentiate and knowing that so many characters are incoming with the whole of the series, it's going to get hard to pick them out specifically from other side characters.

A World He Never Knew Existed.
Book 1 in a slow- burn Harem/Poly Paranormal Romance series. Intense from the moment I started listening, didn't know what was going to happen next. I Absolutely loved every moment of it. Riley is a sweet innocent character who has had a horrific childhood. Kirk Graves did a great job of narrating this twisted tale.

Heavy and heartwrenching. Looking forward to more.
For such a slow paced story, it was gripping from start to finish. Heavy descriptions of past physical and emotional trauma throughout the book but, even with a lot of his reactions and thought processes similar to my own experiences, I did not find this story triggering or difficult to listen too.
I'm looking forward to the healing process he goes through in the rest of the serise as there is a wonderful start to it here.
