Publisher's Summary

We find ourselves in the austerity of the 1950s, when England's aristocracy was feeling the pinch. Bertie Wooster has gone to a residential self-help school to learn how to darn his socks. Until he re-emerges, Jeeves has signed up with Bill Rowcester (pronounced Roaster), an earl who is failing to make ends meet in trade, and yearning to sell his stately home, which has charm and damp in equal measure.

In his new environment Jeeves is required to exert his mammoth brain to what would be breaking point for any normal intellect. Apart from the current economic crisis and his employer's complete ignorance of digging and delving, Jeeves has to duck and weave to preserve his temporary master from grievous injury at the hands of a) a very angry White Hunter, and b) a small but feisty fiancée.

If that wasn't enough, we also meet a rich American lady with addictions to a) psychic phenomena, and b) White Hunters, which have to be humoured by night as well as by day. Believe it or not, Jeeves flits across this minefield with all the grace and agility of an adagio dancer and makes it look easy, which is yet another indication of his truly Olympian stature.

fantastic

I have been listening to Jeeves, read by the same author for 15 years. This was my first experience with a new author, and he did a absolutely superb job! Loved it!

England Destitute: Ring for Jeeves

Familiar story, tweaked a bit for the jaded post War reader, Jeeves way too chatty, and at times seems to doubt himself. Excellent performance by Martin Jarvis.

A Good Egg!

Martin Jarvis is pretty much the voice I hear nowadays even when I am reading a P G Wodehouse book. That's how perfect this is.

Another enjoyable Jeeves book.

Another enjoyable Jeeves book. It's not my number one favorite in the series, and I feel I enjoy the ones with Bertie Wooster more, but it's certainly not bad, and did have a few memorable bits, like "Do you speak Spanish well?" "I don't know, I've never tried."

Pricey but excellent

Martin Jarvis has done it again! Gloriously read. PG Woodhouse's comic prose have been brought to life exquisitely. This is a sorry about Rooster not Wooster with Jeeves the forever cunning and humble.

Martin Jarvis at his best!

Wodehouse stories are always barmy to use his word, but when they're read by Martin Jarvis they become sublime and a great listen. I think Wodehouse stories were made to be read out loud by a master and this is such a one. I think Jarvis could make the Yellow pages interesting!
Do listen to this if you need taking out of yourself during this difficult time.

Good fun but there are better Jeeves books than this

Brilliantly read by Martin Jarvis so worth the money. But this is late Wodehouse so he’s flagging. The man was a genius so some great writing but story pretty thin and made up in the hoof. Fans will enjoy it but there are many better (earlier) Jeeves books.

Carried out whilst listening with earphones. Would recommend this to anyone and everyone. Just downloading the second book.

A Delight

What did you like most about Ring for Jeeves?

What a pleasure to hear this story so superbly read by Mr Jarvis. It was a funny, silly, nostalgic return to a forgotten Britain. When one female character acidly states to her husband 'how very droll you are today', I laughed out in sheer delight. When was the last time I have heard anyone say 'droll'...and poor old Rory - didn't have a clue about anything really. Thank God for Jeeves.....
