Just six years old when my brother was snatched off the street, I grew up in the aftermath of tragedy. In one second, my life disappeared. My past. My memories. My future. The only certainty I have from the last three years is that my older brother is dead and that I am the only eyewitness. In order to protect the case, the lawyers demand no one give me any information about my life...I must remember on my own. My only help comes from my brother’s best friend and world-renowned investigative reporter Spencer Cross. He has no idea how many nights I’ve spent dreaming of his name—and his body—next to mine. My heart opens to Cooper Haywood the moment we meet. How can it resist? He's charming, devastatingly handsome, and sweeps me off my feet before I realize the impact he's making. And then it's too late. We fall too fast to worry about the consequences. We love so hard that we ache when we're apart. Even though I have a past that still haunts me and he has a future that could put us at risk, none of that matters when we're together. Until it does. And then everything changes.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat. Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances. Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She's distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

Wealthy. Entitled. Monarch. Dr. Astor Potter was everything I despised in a man. It didn’t matter that he was my sister’s one-night stand or her closest colleague. I wasn’t charmed by his philanthropy or the way he made babies laugh using those ridiculous voices. He was cold, detached, and reeked of disdain. Nothing mattered to him. Not the messages I left. Or the tears I shed. Nothing brought him to life. Until my sister died. And I placed my newborn niece in his arms. They say love can’t be born from hate and grief. I’m inclined to agree. But then he asked me to stay….

I didn't mean to star in a sex tape, okay? It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds. It just happened. Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston's nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan. The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family's oil company. Little does she know, that's not the only pipe I'll be laying....

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends. Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he's being condescending (which is all the time). The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous best-selling fiction author.

Publisher's Summary
Ripple Effect is a stand-alone book two in the AnyDayNow series!
If you loved the Audible Original Like the Wind (book one in the AnyDayNow series), then you'll love this story of his bandmate RJ Contreras - an enemies-to-lovers tale with an earth-shaking twist!
International pop star RJ Contreras finds himself at a crossroads when his mega famous boy band, AnyDayNow, breaks up. After his solo career fails to take off, RJ (a.k.a. Chad Woodcock) retreats to a no-frills apartment where he can hide out from the world and lick his festering wounds.
But when the girl next door starts slipping "good neighbor" contracts under his door and complaining about his behavior through strategically placed Post-it notes, RJ snaps out of his self-absorbed melancholy to wage war.
Nothing short of an act of nature could repair the relationship between these two strong-willed enemies. But guess what fate has in store?

J. Bengtsson never disappoints. Perfection, again
One of the reasons I love Jill's writing is because I don't roll my eyes at stupid things the characters do, say or think. The characters are layered, witty and realistic. There isn't useless inner dialogue, ridiculous reactions to assumptions or weak women in any of her books. I have listened to the Cake series and Like the Wind repeatedly because I like the emotional roller coaster (Ferris wheel for Emma). I'm almost 50 and my teenage daughter would make fun of me for saying this, but her books have "all the feels". When I finish a J. Bengtsson book I'm sad that it is over but in awe of another beautiful story. I realize this is more of a review of this amazing author so to get back to Ripple Effect. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone of any age.

Great story, fantastic narration
Wow - just an amazing story from start to finish. This was a complete roller coaster ride of thrills and emotions, and storytelling at it's absolute best. I was just blown away by the story that J. Bengtsson created here. It's unlike her other books from a plot perspective, but perfectly on brand from the drama, emotion and totally engrossing experience.
RJ and Dani are NOT good neighbors to each other. They bristle from the very beginning. But when a natural disaster thrusts them together, their bond just can't be beat. I don't want to spoil the absolutely AMAZING story, but just know that this will have you hooked from beginning to end and you can't help but be invested once you start.
If you are an audio fan, or are looking to try audio, this is definitely one to listen to. It is a prime example of audio at it's absolute best as far as I'm concerned. Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter breath life in RJ and Dani, and they more than delivered on the emotion and the tension in this story. Simply fantastic.

Finally ...... RJ & Dani
It's been a long wait since the short story with the cliff hanger to learn what happened to RJ & Dani. Loved the story and love the narrator for Dani. RJ's narrator with his nasal voice didn't quite fit the RJ I imagined. That said the story was great and it was wonderful to revisit a bit of Bohdi, Breeze and the rest of Any Day Now. I'm definitely a fan of Jill and look forward to her next book. Meanwhile I'm sure I will re-read this several times.

Another wonderful journey from J Bengstsson
RJ & Dani's journey was one for the record books. Jill has quite a talent of making you feel like you are along for the entire ride in her stories and this one was an emotional venture. I personally love when an author can engage you the entire time. Such witty bantering, so funny at times and then tugging on your heart strings. A great enemies to lovers story but also a journey to discover what really matters in life. Great job! A MUST read or listen!!! The audiobook is amazing!
Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter were perfect narrators of this story bringing Jill's words to life. Great job!

WOW.. A MEGA-JOURNEY OF HEARTWARMING FEELS
J. Bengtsson is an auto buy for me.. and this very enjoyable life or death/friends-to-lovers listen showcases why. It’s got a humble and heartwarming mix of light and dark.. sour and sweet.. sad and happy.. and tortured drama and touching resolutions. RJ is a pop star in hiding after his band broke up and he tried and failed a disastrous solo career.. so now he’s left his wealth and friends behind to live incognito as Chad in an apartment that share so much with a very frustrating and annoying female neighbour. And, every time Chad and First Grade Teacher Danni meet, their hostile humorous banter and petty bickering flares.. until a 7.1 earthquake changes their lives in the worst of ways.. and in the best of ways in terrifying and gripping challenges, heartbreaking suffering and dramatic acts of bravery and selflessness that has two hearts connecting in a beautiful, breathtaking and bloody awesome way.
Worth a credit? Yes, it’s a dual POV love story where enemies become heroes.. and the two heroes become lovers in a tension-filled journey that wasn’t drowned out by sex but by action and drama. And Teddy and Stella were fantastic because they brought the cocktail of fun friction, the beautiful friendship, the emotional fireworks and the delicious cocktail of feels to life.

Keep your expectations in check.
The story is good and the narrators are excellent. As good as the story is, my hopes were too high. After listening to the first book in the series and reading the other reviews, my expectations were too high. I wouldn’t say I regret getting the audiobook; but over all, I skipped about 5 chapters because I got annoyed with the characters or plot line. I’m still interested in what else this author has to offer. I’ll just have to keep my expectations in check.

An unlikely pair are forced into survival mode
This story might sound a bit far fetched but a headline from Florida showed it was entirely possible. The only thing not believable is that one or both did not start trying to bargain with God or pray, yet RJ does reference angels. The internal monologues of Dani and RJ were often funny, poignant, sweet, and occasionally annoyingly over the top like a parking space scene that lasts too long but ultimately has great significance. This pair has the grow up instantly due circumstances and draw on inner strength. The final chapters provide a satisfying yet not too over the top HEA though the daughter Serena’s age could of 11 seemed improbable given dad just turned 30 but then the not so obvious comment about hand picked and her name and timeline and the blended by choice family of the heroic pair makes sense. A great feel good ending. Maybe there will be sequels with the rest of the band or Dani’s half siblings and given the headlines a man made disaster like a shooting which is what I thought of originally when hearing Dani’s profession. Tha narration was great and this story was well worth a credit and a read.

A great listen!
I received this audiobook via a free promo code in an Aural Fixation Giveaway and this is my voluntary review.
Boy band heartthrob RJ aka "Chad Woodcock" has been sulking in the apartment down the hallway from school teacher Dani since his debut solo album was a flop. Dani's unaware of the international popstar status beneath the Wookie look he's been sporting lately and his grouching hasn't exactly been serenading her as she retorts to his disgusting behaviour with Post-it-Notes and as they've been battling it out in their shared space. When an earthquake strikes bringing their apartment down on their heads and has RJ pinned beneath the rubble in their underground parking garage, Dani will stop at nothing to save him. RJ makes a promise to himself that he wont waste anymore of his life sulking, hes gonna grab his life like the gift that it is and build his future with Dani... Even if the biggest barrier to their happy ever after seems to happen after the medical crews take over.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm a big lover of those high drama disaster movies and this was pretty Epic. Teddy Hamilton was the best person I could think of to perform RJ Contreras and Stella Hunter playing Dani during her Fan Girl stakeouts was perfection.

Amazing Story & Narration🎧Enthralling & Heartfelt!
Wow, this book just blew me away, I am a huge fan of J. Bengtsson’s writing style and the stories she creates and I think may have outdone herself with this book, it is moving like no other and will stay with me for a very long time. Former AnyDayNow Boy Bander RJ Contreras was ready to kick off his solo career, he was not ready to be ridiculed and criticized and it took a toll on him, so much so he avoided all by going into hiding, moving into an apartment in a neighborhood no one would look for him and used an alias, the name Chad Woodcock, and keeps to himself. Well, he tried to keep to himself, but the problem was his annoying neighbor who keeps sending him post-it notes about his behavior and what is good neighbor etiquette. She really got under his skin and waged a war on her, which was good because it got him out of his funk, even if it was only momentarily. Dani Malone, a first grade teacher, tries her best to be nice and reasonable with her annoying neighbor, but enough is enough, when notes are not enough, she confronts him. OMG, the air is explosive between these two, the back-and-forth banter and dialogue is witty and hilarious, the antics are too. But life, or rather mother nature, has a way of changing things in a blink of an eye and Chad and Dani find themselves in a life-threatening situation. OMG, it was like I felt the earth move during some of these scenes and my heart was pounding so hart I thought it was trying to beat out of my chest. This is a beautifully and brilliantly plotted enemies-to-lovers romance, it contains some heartfelt moments and gut wrenching ones, there is also plenty of drama, some angst, witty humor and snark, and a meaningful, once in a life-time, slow burn romance. It was great to see Bhodi & Breeze again and see more of the other AnyDayNow bandmates, Sean, Dane and Hunter, I am looking forward to hearing more about them. J. Bengtsson, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter are the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They are talented narrator and versatile voice artists, their top-notch performances enhanced this already brilliant story another level. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit that character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the character to sound. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. They set the perfect tone for the story, handled the witty dialogue with ease, never missing a beat. Thank you for another exceptional and fabulously entertaining listen.

Wow! Just Wow!
This book is so much better the 5 stars. It really was amazing m. It draws you in right from the start and takes you on a ride that will definitely impact your life. So well done, so amazing. Just get it and listen, you won’t be sorry.
1 helpful tip- don’t start at bedtime, you are unlikely to sleep, until the book has ended.
Narrative was also done beautifully. I’m new to Stella Hunter but she did awesome. And I’m a long time Teddy fan and he did not disappoint.

An amazing story!
Ripple Effect was a story I didn't see coming. I'm guessing I should read J. Bengtsson's blurbs before I continue. It wouldn't have stopped me... had I known that I would have spent a good chunk of this audiobook in tears I would have still wanted to continue. Once I started listening to this audiobook I compulsively obsessed over it... I couldn't stop. This is one of those books that caused my heart rate to accelerate. It caused my palms to get steady. I was a nervous wreck of emotion for these characters. RJ/Chad started out as a total jerkface but this man redeemed himself... big time. Dani is the perfect human. Really, that sums her up. She shows determination and loyalty like I've never seen before.
The narration by Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter told a beautiful tale. They started the story out with this fun and flirty banter with some major snark. Hamilton really outdid himself here... he made you dislike RJ right from the start and feel slightly sorry for him at the same time. But he excelled in redeeming RJ. Those hours in the gararge... Lord, he made me cry. He made me see RJ in a different light... he made RJ come to life. Hunter was amazing as well. I imagine Dani would be a hard woman to narrate because she's plain amazing and how do you live up to that. Hunter schools us all. She made Dani the strongest, the most persistent heroine ever.

One of the best books I’ve read this year
I wasn’t prepared. So stupid of me–I know the author has a unique way of mixing family drama, and emotional and physical trauma. She did it again.
The first act was already pleasant enough. A deliciously witty tale of enemies to lovers between a depressed ex-rockstar who’s hiding from the world and a feisty teacher who can’t stand her neighbor. The banter was fun. And the author takes her time detailing who they are. We get their sad story–RJ and the hateful parasites who take advantage of his money and fame, Dani and her multiple siblings who came, like her, from a test tube.
So when the second act starts, we know them, and we love them. And we also know how much they hate each other. Or do they? Because in the middle of the life threatening crisis that takes place, they only have each other. Watching them in survival mode was emotionally taxing. It was intense, a little funny, a lot sad, but beautiful nonetheless. The real heart of this book.
Last act is the aftermath, and there’s a lot to unravel. The changes in Dani and RJ’s relationship, some more family drama and, of course, the direct consequences of the crisis. Be prepared for PTSD, love, anger, depression, comfort, support. It was, too, an intense part of the book, up to the absolutely perfect epilogue.
Writing was good, smart and funny, with striking images. One of the best books I’ve read this year. Be warned though, it isn’t for the faint of heart–but when is this author? There are some gruesome moments, while not exactly explicit. Nothing is gratuitous though, they’re steps in the characters’ journey. The book wouldn’t be what it is without them.
And what made it even better? The audiobook! The narrators delivered one of their best performances, full of snark and energy, but able to convey deeper emotions when needed. Highly recommended.

Great Listen!
This was a bit of a departure from Jill's other books. RJ & Dani's story starts out a bit rough. Dani has no idea who her neighbor really is. Then a series of events thrusts them together. Stella Hunter & Teddy Hamilton do an excellent job narrating!

One of my top listens!
How is this my first J Bengsston book? I absolutely love her writing style and this book is in my top listens for the year! From the first chapter, the banter between Chad (RJ) and Dani had me smiling and I thought, this is going to be a fabulous romantic comedy. Then BAM! A twist I didn't see coming, and a story that captured my heart. The twist and turns, the use of social media, the unexpected people that touch their lives, it's all there, making us feel. It has such a realistic feel, it could happen today, and we could only wish the outcome to be the same. I felt every last feeling Bengsston wanted me to. She has a brand-new fan, and I can't wait to go listen to her other books.
To make this story even better, we have Stella Hunter and Teddy Hamilton tell it to us! Such amazing voices to give this story the life it deserves. I could not have been better cast. Hunter brings out the love and determination Dani has. Hamilton adds his voice as RJ, as we see his character in every situation and he draws us in to every emotion. Fantastic, highly recommend this listen to everyone who loves a wonderful book!

Another extraordinary experience.
I should have known that I could expect the unexpected from this author, but once again, I've been taken by surprise by the rollercoaster of this book. My first experience of Bengtsson was the first of her Cake series, which I had expected to be a light and fluffy rockstar romance, and found instead an emotionally challenging, 3 course meal of satisfying and addictive saga. " Ripple Effect" is the second of a spin-off series from that initial book series. The first of the Any Day Now series is "Like the Wind". "Ripple Effect could be read as a standalone, but my suggestion is that if you have found this book first, then go back and give yourself the benefit of enjoying "Like the Wind" and then every single other one of Bengtsson's books.
This book starts off with the familiar comfort of a well established trope - warring neighbours who obviously have very mixed feelings about each other. Dani and 'Chad' leave each other hostile notes and take up entirely too much mental real estate for each other, and everyone knows what THAT leads to, right? Wrong. What happens in this book comes entirely out of left field and I was entirely shaken, absorbed and on the edge of my seat, forcing myself to not read ahead. "Its a romance," I told myself. "Romances guarantee a HEA!" I told myself. But Bengtsson writes so well that I was thoroughly invested in the characters' situation, and this set up the tension I usually reserve for thrillers and murder mysteries (where I unashamedly do read ahead).
I loved this book and will read it again as I can now do so with less anxious anticipation for characters' welfare, and this will give me a chance to more fully appreciate the delightful quirkiness of the ancillary characters that contribute to the joy of Bengtsson's books.
