Publisher's Summary

Merglan has the source of true magic within reach. Evils not seen in Kartania for hundreds of years wreak havoc on the forces of Westland. The last of the dragonriders must fight for Kartania’s freedom or be extinguished.

After Anders learns of Merglan and his dragon’s violent takeover of the elf capital, he is faced with the burden of leading the allied forces to their last stand. The only problem is, he doesn’t know where his allies are, or if they’re even still alive. The elf army is divided and in ruin, the dwarfs have been driven from their city under the mountain, and the humans are scattered across their kingdoms, all struggling to stay alive. Merglan could attack Anders, his dragon, and their small army at any moment.

With Anders attempting to juggle his role in the prophecy, the prospect of becoming king, and the future of the allied nations, he struggles to stay one step ahead of Merglan. Knowing the allied armies are scattered and he is outmatched in his skills as dragonrider, Anders and the leaders of the Westland Revolutionary Army form a plan. Knowing the fate of Kartania will be decided with his life, Anders will need help during this last stand. Can he find his allies and bring them together? Or will he and the forces of Westland be overwhelmed by Merglan and his evil army? Will the rise of the dragonriders be enough to fulfill the prophecy?

Great story

I started the series with the free audible books. 1and2. I then used my credits to buy 3 and 4. Great story and great performance.

Better then Lord Of The Rings

These books by far had a better story line then the original lord of the rings. You could relate to all of the characters and I strongly believe that these books could become a major movie franchise.

Loved it!

Great series! Grateful to AJ Walker and everyone involved in the creation of this story and the audio for all of their hard work! Thank you for bringing a little joy and love into this world. I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 books the writing is great, the plot is well laid out and easy to keep up with, all while maintaining a few twists and turns! Each book had me so ready to read the next one that I finished them all within a month.

Started good, ended as expected.

Struggled to finish fourth book. Book three ended just as I suspected and book four played out exactly how I thought.

Good Tension with Dumb Reasoning

Listening this far into the series the author has some clearly good ideas but needs to work on pacing at times and when it is appropriate to add certain things.

Positives: They supposedly defeated the big bad with help from a people that was hinted at in the previous book. Showing more dragons and riders would come in at some point. Having some main characters die was a spin I wasn’t expecting but I am glad they took that risk. It will force some character growth and split up EVERYONE being in a relationship. Allowing some to be solo and grow stronger emotionally because of it. The battles felt big and busy and at time unwindable and it was reared like a real battle where not everyone was safe. Lots of realistic deaths and showing the characters limits.

Having information spread quick enough so their is no times of: Characters being clueless about what is happening to others. Or coming too late or going right past the issue at the same time that it is happening was a relief. Only so much stress can be handled at once. If their was a gap in information for some characters it was quickly filled in.

Negatives: Just like in my review of the first book he is trying too hard for the relationships. It wasn’t enough they were all love at first sight and some fake will they won’t they stuff we all knew who would be with who. And at times where it wasn’t important it felt shoved in to remind us, “They are together and have done the deed.” Having to tell everyone they meet.

And not allowing dragon riders to be kings is very short sighted. Checks and balances are even shown for other aspects of what the rulers agreed on. And the fact Anders spent so long rejecting being king was far more annoying. And it felt like his cousin coming back was just to allow Anders to not deal with being king instead of letting him grow as a leader that way.

The performance was great I knew what characters were who and could in-vision them on my mind perfectly. The battle descriptions were great as well enjoyable making me feel like I was there.

narrator

Accents are distracting and annoying. Anders sounds uneducated and squeeky. rather than a hero.
