Publisher's Summary

From Shani Struthers, author of The Haunting of Highdown Hall.

"This isn't a ghost we're dealing with. If only it were that simple…."

Eighteen years ago, when psychic Ruby Davis was a child, her mother - also a psychic - suffered a nervous breakdown. Ruby was never told why. "It won't help you to know," was the only answer she was ever given. Fast forward to the present and Ruby is earning a living from her gift, running a high street consultancy - Psychic Surveys - specialising in domestic spiritual clearance.

Boasting a strong track record, business is booming. Dealing with spirits has become routine, but there is more to the paranormal than even Ruby can imagine. Someone - something - stalks her, terrifying but also strangely familiar. Hiding in the shadows, it is fast becoming bolder. The only way to fight it is for the past to be revealed, no matter what the danger.

When you can see the light, you can see the darkness, too. And - sometimes - the darkness can see you.

Boring....

So, I have been dragging myself through this book... I am 1/2 way though this book and its no better... at this point I give up. I won't read another in this series... The book just drones on and on...I am not even sure what the point is of the story. The narrator could put me to sleep... I was very disappointed.

Worth the listen

The story was very good, though there were times it seemed to lose itself in the passage of time. Shani Struthers writes a good paranormal story that seems to have been well researched and well thought out.

The performance though for this book was rather annoying. There were times the audio became soft, as if the narrator didn't have her setup done properly and she leaned away from the microphone. other times, she seemed to have her mouth right on the microphone and was too loud. Sheila Dearden also made the main character very high pitchy and annoyingly childish this book.

The first book in the series was very well done, and was the whole reason I purchased the following books. But if I had listened to this one first, I would not have continued with how the narrator made Ruby and Carina sound almost exactly the same. Ruby sounded like she was 12, not an adult of 25. I hope the other books are more like the first one.

A Little Scary but entertaining

I must confess that it got me a little scared but I enjoyed the book. Perfect for Halloween. The story is something new and it seems like the main problem of that family is the lack of communication. Good that at the end they work together to overcome the danger they were facing.

Atmospheric

I thought this was spooky and atmospheric. Dark things and inner evil. Is it a real thing? This made me think of the substance of people and how we can be a conduit to and for other things.
Loved the Lasher link. Brilliant books too! Some humour too. Lightened but then boom back into the dark.
The narrator was good, a nice calm voice that got the eerie across and the horror. Extremely good

Superb Series!

This book really pulled at my emotions and conveys beautifully the highs and lows of life. Slight bias here but Jed is just wonderful and gives much support and help. His goodness radiates out of him. Off to get the next book!

Easy to listen to

I do like this series of books because I can carry on with other activities while I listen, this is partly due to the simple storyline but also to the narrators style.

Can’t stand the narrator - so bad it’s almost comical

The story was predictable and more of a romance than ghost/thriller. The narrator was so poor that it almost made it a comedy. Unfortunately, will not be listening to anymore in the series.

Boring and Frustrating

I usually like this author but this book really ruined this series for me. The story just droned on, seemingly pointless at times and I felt like it was struggling to get where it needed to go. II also found myself getting extremely annoyed at how useless the main character is. This is a psychic and she's woefully incapable to defending herself and living in a dream world. Not to mentioned the fact that the usual storyline of "no one listens to the attacked person" is deeply irritating. The narrator also continues to get softer and louder the entire time and she makes the younger female characters seem like absolute airheads.
