The Failure of Risk Management provides effective solutions to significant faults in current risk analysis methods. Conventional approaches to managing risk lack accurate quantitative analysis methods, yielding strategies that can actually make things worse. Many widely used methods have no systems to measure performance, resulting in inaccurate selection and ineffective application of risk management strategies. These fundamental flaws propagate unrealistic perceptions of risk in business, government, and the general public.

An ok book
As someone that manages hedging and risk management teams myself, this is certainly a book that I would recommend to practitioners. Finally, it is clear that the author and the people he thanked in the acknowledgments spent quite a bit of time proofreading the final guidance. The writing is clear, well-articulated, and thoughtful.

Narrowly focused on market risk management
I run a regulated financial services business and was hoping to learn more about best practices how to manage a wide spectrum of risks that do or might exist in our company. However, this book was narrowly focused on management of market risk in an investment portfolio rather than wider range that a financial services business gets exposed to. So sadly I learnt essentially nothing new from this book.

had a lot of information
A brief history of the Basel regulation is given and how important volatility is for the risk management. The different forms of value at risk is introduced and how it is used in the different risk measurement. It is the main book on the theme and I think the practical action will take place in the application of the theory. No mater how long it is relevant. You can read it with the basic skills in maths and no long mathematical treatise are used. It is easy to understand.
