Publisher's Summary

A minor seismic disturbance in a remote section of the Pacific causes barely a ripple of concern for Kai Tanaka, acting director of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu. But when an airliner en route from LA to Sydney vanishes in the same location, Kai is the first to realize that a mysterious explosion has unleashed a series of massive waves destined to obliterate Hawaii.

In just one hour, Kai will lose all he has ever known - including his wife and daughter - unless he can save them from nature's most destructive force.

good solid thriller.

Worth your time to listen if you like a good thriller. Almost goes off the rails a couple of times piling on the obstacles the characters are faced with but veers back on track just in time. Characters better fleshed out than in many disaster yarns. Check it out.

Thrilling but Unrealistic

I have been an Audible listener for 8 years and have listened to hundreds of books, and I think this may be my first review. I am really enjoying the fast pace and good writing of this book, however, there is one major flaw that keeps detracting from how awesome this book could be.

The problem is that as the clock counts down to impact with the wave, the characters are able to accomplish massive amounts of feats in an impossible amount of time. This keeps happening over and over again, and it really takes you out of the story, unfortunately. I would just be sucked-in so much better if I wasn't constantly shaking my head at the ridiculous timeline.

Amazing!!

This book so amazing! You really love all the characters. I read this in paperback and then decided I it would be fun to hear this be read. Pete Cross did the best job I have ever heard with an Audible book. I will listen and re-read this over and over.

story line would have been better if it dealt with

The whole disaster of the islands instead of concentrating too much on this relationship between the families. And it was too unbelievable and it went on too Long. You have to fast forward to a lot of it because it just seems to repeat itself . I felt like I was in a horror movie where the the people running trip fall trip and fall trip and fall.

Amazingly written with great narration

Every now and then you will come across a audible book that has it all. Besides having an amazing narrator, this book packs in so much action but never forgets the human element. The characters are multi dimensional. This book is also a tear jerker, I’ll leave it at that.

Terrifying adventure

The book starts slow but once it gets going it’s hard to put down! The narration was a little off for me but nothing that ruined the story.

Magic Minutes

The story would have been much better if the author would have used realistic time. It became increasingly distracting to see how much activity could be accomplished in a matter of minutes. All that was needed was to increase the arrival time of the wave by 3 or 4 times. It still would have been touch and go and would have been much more believable.

A rather large Splash!

An amazing job of recounting a fictional tale as if relating a true event! I’m impressed how Mr Morrison was able to write an entire book while relating the events of a quite brief time span! The characters were well developed and made you want to know them on a personal level — with the exception of one particular idiot who got what he deserved! Great mix of all the elements needed in a really entertaining adventure tale, while preserving the dignity of personal loss! Bravo!
