What ya doing there?

If you're going to make an audio book about Ancient Rome, then at least get a guy that's a little familiar with the language (or maybe just start by getting a guy that can read at all)

Is this a joke?

I would stay away from this one if you have any cursory interest in Roman history. The history covered is surface level. But the most egregious thing about this book is the narrator. I have no idea who allowed this person to read this work for the public. But they are a terrible decision maker.

Unbearable narration

I just can’t listen to this. This reader cannot be a professional. He stumbles like a forth grader reading from an encyclopedia. I just can’t follow the narrative through the choppy stops and starts, and the mispronunciations.

Terrible performance

The reading of this book is so bad that I couldn't listen beyond five minutes.

The narration is awful.

Highly recommend listening to a sample before purchasing. The narration is the worst I've experienced.

More Repeated Info Than I Like

The amount of regurgitation of information is way more than I've ever experienced in a book. It kills the whole vibe for me. The progression, in my opinion, is hindered as you keep returning to a starting point (so to say) only to take a new avenue. It's like I leave my house to go downtown. I have 5 options of routes to take. I choose route 1, go halfway, turn around and go home. I leave again, choosing route 3. Halfway, I go again, turn around and head home, so forth and so on. Yes, each route has different scenery to take in, but will I ever reach downtown?

The Narrator was not the best either; no life whatsoever.

Worst narrator ever. Could not finish.

Mistakes are not edited out.
I want a refund!
Narrator does not know how to pronounce many words. Sounds like a elementary student reading it for the first time.

ROBOTIC

The most horrendously narrated book I've ever heard. Read by a robot. I Lasted 10 minutes. It may well be the greatest ever piece of literature ever written on Rome but I would advise you to actually read it as opposed to listen to this.

I agree with the description "Robotic"!

I can't see how the majority of listeners have scored this audio book as 5 stars, I agree with one's opinion "Robotic". Maybe Mike Duncan has spoiled me with his easy to listen to podcast on the History of Rome and audio book on the decline of the Roman Republic but this audio book is terribly written. I'm not claiming to be able to do a better job but at least I can pronounce "Con-stan-ti-no-pel" (phonetics not spelling! 😁)

So bad I can't listen! Waste of money!

I only listened to Introduction and Chapter 1 and gave up because it was so awful! The narrator sounds like automated reading offered by Google- just saying random words together. He doesn't seem to understand what he's reading. Also just in the Introduction he mispronounced Constantinople twice!!! A complete waste of money!

Really ????

Why has the Author chosen a narrator that cannot read or pronounce the most basic of words. Absolutely ridiculous impossible to listen to.

Rubbish

Don't believe the narrator is a real person.

Had to turn it off after 10 minutes due to the speech patterns of the narrator. Sounds like an android from a 3rd rate 1980s sci-fi film. Disappointed that I Wasted a credit on this audiobook but would have been enraged if I'd bought it.

Impossible to listen to

Narrator cannot pronounce any of the names of people or places, stutters over sentences, no flow whatsoever. Had to stop listening after 10 minutes. Really bad stuff
