Publisher's Summary

A power to gain. Prices too high to pay. No one cheats death forever.

Digby finally has everything he wants: The heist went off without a hitch, the shards of the Heretic Seed are in his possession, and Autem is in disarray. All he has to do is unlock the power he’s stolen. But it seems that restoring the Seed to its former glory is easier said than done. Something has gone wrong, and it’s up to Digby to fix it, whether he wants to or not.

Trapped within a twisted realm of memories, he’s forced to compete against the souls of past Heretics in a game of death with his existence on the line. To escape, he will have to play nice with the few allies he can find, then make his way to the finish line all while uncovering a conflict that has been hidden throughout the centuries. To make matters worse, until he can find a way home, everyone back in Vegas will need to step up to fill the void left by his absence.

When the dust settles, he may find that the power he seeks will cost him more than he bargained for.

Solid and enjoyable until the last half hour

Spoilers ahead!

Going to keep this brief, the voice work is spectacular, characters are well written and internal consistency is all solid... until the end. Where either the author or dig or both forgot that henwicks echo could have solved the

Can't wait

OMG I feel in love with this series immediately and can't wait for the next book. I hate everything Zombie, but Dig is my hero. He's the most unorthodox main character ever, and that just adds to the appeal. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Fleshes out the history, sets up for more

After this book I was surprised how I feel for, and invested I am in, these characters for a zombie-apocalypse LitPRG!!??

I was a little surprised at the direction of the story in this book, but it really helps flesh out the overall story so far and what happened in the past, and then sets us up for book 5 in a mean (but good) way.

I really enjoyed the attention to character growth, and how it somehow avoids true character tropes and clichés.

Honestly, Petrie keeps improving this series in ways I did not think possible.

the series keeps getting stronger

usually you find that for a long running series, things start to slide and it feels like minimal progression is stretched out to fill a book - not so here.

it feels like the world is maturing, but still keeping the humour and surprises that made the first books so enjoyable.

looking forward to the next one.
