Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
The Fed today is not our friend. Its "low rates forever" policy means we must look elsewhere for yield. Dividend-paying stocks don't help. Blue chips don't pay more than 2% or 3%. On a $1 million portfolio, that's less than $30,000 in annual income. Not enough. There's a better way. Income investing experts Brett Owens and Tom Jacobs show you how to safely double, triple and even quadruple these yields. Turn that 2% that stocks pay into 6%, 7% and even 8% (for $80,000 on that million bucks) without doing anything risky.

Publisher's Summary
Tom Jacobs and John Del Vecchio, authors of the best-selling book What's Behind the Numbers?, have now come out with their next best seller, The Rule of 72. In an era where it is easy to be skeptical with how companies manage their funds, Tom and John teach that there is a way to find companies that are actually willing to pay investors to own their stocks. These experienced and highly successful investment experts review the principles of the Rule of 72, explain the best ways to evaluate financial risks, and review the six tests for grading stocks.
Tom and John explain the trifecta for how to grow financial armor and protect your money from self-interested company management and the financial services industry. The book also includes interesting facts that you may not already know. Regardless of your investment experience or financial management knowledge, this is a must-listen for everyone.

Simple but sound advice
I spend a lot of time studying markets, investing, economies, etc. and most of the time I run into cliché commonalities and even disinformation, not here though. Granted there is a ton of similar information scattered throughout other investment books I thought this was very well put together. Excellent listen for doing chores around the house.

Wow! Fun, inspiring and thorough.
What made the experience of listening to Rule of 72 the most enjoyable?
Jacobs and Del Vecchio made a scary topic understandable and relatable. I felt more empowered with every chapter.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ben Franklin has always been my favorite founding father and it was so cool to learn more of his wisdom and to see how it has been proven over time.
Which character – as performed by Tom Jacobs – was your favorite?
Tom Jacobs has a wonderful way of making it seem as though he is speaking to you alone. His voice reminds you of your best friend that gives you really good advice but never patronizes.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to the book in one sitting and will listen to it again while taking notes!
Any additional comments?
I am a 48-year-old barber with a very small salon and no idea if or how I would ever be able to retire. Del Vecchio and Jacobs have provided the tools and rules that are helping me to make a plan and get to work. The information in this book is presented clearly and thoroughly with humor and warmth. For me, the idea of investing in the stock market has always been an intimidating one. After reading Rule 72, I feel not only more confident and prepared but inspired to make my money grow. I would recommend this book to people young and old who want to make smart, sensible choices and actively take control of their futures.
