Publisher's Summary

What did the president know? And when did she know it?

For the members of SEAL Team Six, it was a rare mission ordered by the president, monitored in real time from the Situation Room. Houthi rebels in Yemen had captured an American journalist and a member of the Saudi royal family. Their executions were scheduled for Easter Sunday. The SEAL team were to break them out. But when the mission results in spectacular failure, the finger-pointing goes all the way to the top.

Did the president play political games with the lives of US service members?

Paige Chambers, a determined young lawyer, has a very personal reason for wanting to know the answer. The case she files will polarize the nation and test the resiliency of the Constitution. The stakes are huge, the alliances shaky, and she will be left to wonder if the saying on the Supreme Court building still holds true.

Equal justice under law

It makes a nice motto. But will it work when the defendant is also one of the most powerful people on the planet?

Outstanding legal and military thriller!

This is my first novel by Randy Singer, but I plan to listen to others. I've heard the complaint from other readers that Singer tends to make his religion the centerpiece of his novels. That definitely is not the case with Rule of Law. (I've listened to and reviewed books by atheist Sam Harris that were far stronger in their religious preaching than Rule of Law.) This novel does seem to take a strong partisan political position that is the opposite of my political views, but that does not detract from the great suspense mystery plot.

The protagonist of Rule of Law is attorney Paige Chambers who lost her boyfriend who she expected to marry in a failed Seal Team Six (DEVGRU) operation in Yemen that sought to free two high value hostages. Someone high in the US government had warned the people who held the hostages of the raid and when it would occur; the result was the loss of lives of several members of Seal Team Six. The story is about the legal battle to uncover the name of the traitor.

Love his books!

If it is Randy Singer, it WILL be good. We love all of his books. I must admit, I got a little lost in the politics of this one, but not enough to take off a star. My husband totally enjoyed it. It also comes with a hankie alert!!

Better than I expected

I just finished "Rule of Law." I enjoyed Randy Singer's "Directed Verdict" and was only slightly put off by the religious asides even though I am religious myself. But I did appreciate even more the author's leaving out the strong language. Rather than following his novels in chronological order like I normally would, I skipped to the last one, Rule of Law. I liked this one even a little better. The legal narratives are fairly accurate for a fictional account though nothing really happens this fast. The plot generally held together. With 3 hours left, I was not sure how the author would make the ending satisfying, but he did. I thought the religious asides were toned down a lot, although the political views were evident. Overall, I am glad I read it -- and that is as good an endorsement as any. BTW, initially I was not sure that I would like the narrator, but I did.

Great book, excellent story line and execution

Where does Rule of Law rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top five. Randy Singer is a phenomenal writer. Great story with unexpected twists and turns.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes

What about Carla Mercer-Meyers’s performance did you like?

Good overall

Any additional comments?

Call me misogynistic, but I think female narrators doing male voices are less than optimal in an audiobook.

Another Great Book by: Randy Singer

This is not the usual Romantic Inspirational book that I have read, but it is one of the best. Carla Mercer-Meyers was the perfect Narrator for: "Rule of Law."
We All need to be accountable for our actions and deeds and pray always that God will be glorified through them.
I agree with other reviewers you will need a box of tissues.

Too much religion

Good story, but the 15 minutes every so often regarding prayer, god etc was annoying.

Join me on the edge of the seat

I enjoyed every minute and every aspect of this book. Randy Singer doesn't disappoint and Carla Mercer-Meyers did a wonderful job with all the characters of a very complicated story.

Excellent all the way around!

What a great story! Great plot, and a narrator absolutely pleasant to listen to! This story gripped me from beginning to end. From Virginia, to DC, to Yemen, including getting a small glimpse of the very real terror of being chased by a drone!

New Author

Good story line, but, a little preachy for me. Cried at certain parts. The narrator, Carla Mercer-Meyers, did a good job.

Great Teamwork

An immersive story excellently delivered. I initially I was skeptical about a war story narrated by a female voice. I was so wrong. The story is bought to life and connects with the emotions. Highly recommend

Well written, well structured, excellent

A very well structured book. At times an emotional roller coaster.

One of the better books that I have encountered.

Not for me !

Narration irritating, couldn’t believe in the storyline or the character only made it to chapter 3 and gave up! So can’t say if it manages to get better further on.

Story ok but utterly stupid narration

The narrator is one of the worst I’ve listened to. Irritating voice pitch and a really unintelligent reading style. She makes all the characters sound like they’re drunk or stoned or just plain dumb. She races so it’s hard to follow. She’s just really bad, it’s hard to get past that.

Too much religious propaganda

An interesting insight into the American legal system and the role of the Supreme Court.
Narrator is very good.
What I found increasingly grating was the emphasis on the importance of religious faith in characters lives. A non American listener may find it a bit odd . I grew up in a religious environment and I thought it showed a smug arrogance by the author.
