Publisher's Summary

Inspiration and practical tips for runners who prioritize enjoyment over pace and embrace their place as an "average" runner

In her first book, popular runner blogger Amanda Brooks lays out the path to finding greater fulfillment in running for those who consider themselves "middle of the pack runners" - they're not trying to win Boston (or even qualify for Boston); they just want to get strong and stay injury-free so they can continue to enjoy running.

Run to the Finish is not your typical running book. While it is filled with useful strategic training advice throughout, at its core, it is about embracing your place in the middle of the pack with humor and learning to love the run you've got without comparing yourself to other runners. Mixing practical advice like understanding the discomfort vs. pain, the mental side of running, and movements to treat the most common injuries with more playful elements such as "Favorite hilarious marathon signs" and "Weird Thoughts We all Have at the Start Line", Brooks is the down-to-earth, inspiring guide for everyone who wants to be happier with their run.

so you want to be a runner ... or a better runner

I’m a toddler runner (it’s been less than 18 months since I started running consistently) and how I WISH this book would have been around when I started. I actually found Amanda through her blog- it came up every time I googled a running question. I started following her on social media and love her genuine passion for running and helping others. So, I won’t lie- I bought the book solely to support her since she’s unknowingly given me so much free advice - ha! But the book is truly as awesome as she is. It’s a light read, her humor and wit shines through but it also touches on serious topics like negative self talk & the comparison game. This book was written for people like me, the everyday runner. I felt encouraged, motivated & inspired to change the way I think about running, my “performance” and honestly, a lot of what she writes applies to other areas of life. I just finished listening to it on Audible & I can’t wait to go back and take my highlighter to the pages & read it again!

Meh

I appreciate that this is geared toward people that don't necessarily consider themselves "real runners". I expected a little more out of it, honestly. While the exercises might be helpful in the hard copy, it felt like they were pulled from a blog to add weight in the audio version. I found myself fast forwarding through a lot of it. If you've been running for an extended period of time, this may not be that beneficial.

Comprehensive running instruction

This is a great running book, one of my favorites. I do wish some of the tables were included as a PDF file so I could quickly refer to it after the listen.

Saved me from burnout

I found this book 3 weeks after finishing my first marathon. I had been injured, but I was still feeling a ton of pressure from myself and others to sign up for another race. This book helped me dispel my negative self talk, helped me realize how much I love running, and how to treat my body well so that I can keep running happily for years and years.

Not for me

Possibly the hard copy makes more sense for this book, but I couldn't even finish it. The 2nd running book that went this way for me.
