Story
Grace Rossi is starting over after a divorce, and a part-time job with a federal appeals court sounds perfect. But she doesn't count on being assigned to an explosive death penalty appeal. Nor does she expect ardor in the court in the form of an affair with the chief judge. Then Grace finds herself investigating a murder, unearthing a secret bank account and following a trail of bribery and judicial corruption that's stumped even the FBI. In no time at all, Grace under fire takes on a whole new meaning.

Story
John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

A decent mystery
I wasn't sure I would like this because I generally prefer unabridged but it was pretty good. I enjoy the author and thought this one of her better efforts. Plot twists and interesting characters make for a good story.

Not the best from Scottoline
I love Lisa Scottoline books so I was very disappointed with this one. I am drawn to her books for the excellent story line, plot twists, humor and LACK of foul language. This book didn’t meet any of those criteria. It’s the only book that I have read of hers (and I’ve read many) that I did not like at all.

Predictable, but fun
What made the experience of listening to Running from the Law the most enjoyable?
I liked Karen Allen's performance; it was my first time listening to her and she did a great job.
Would you recommend Running from the Law to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, though it was a bit predictable, especially what was supposed to be the final "twist" - you could see it coming for a mile. Happy it did end the way it did, though.
Which scene was your favorite?
The protagonist's discovery of something that changed her life.
