I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters - now we are the hunted. Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory - instead it comes with a death sentence. I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Another Excellent Production by A L Knorr
I got hooked on A L Knorr’s elemental series and Targa about a year ago. She’s a excellent writer. Her writing is so good that when I’m reading her stories, I don’t know where I am or how tired I am. While reading salt and stone, I was taping and floating our new living room until six in the morning. I had to force myself to put the book down (turn it off) so I could go to sleep. I listen to audiobooks to stay awake, while driving, on my way to work. AL Knorr’s books work the best.
Targa had become an elemental in an earlier book series. The story of Mira, her mother, was also told in an earlier series. In this story, Mira has to return to the sea for a salt cycle. Targa inherits her family business and her mother takes a backseat as Targa takes over the business. Georgiana stopped by on her way to another place and helps to discover some hidden secrets. Targa and Antônio’s relationship develops a little bit in the story as well.
I love the way AL Knorr writes. She writes Cleans stories. Little or no profanity and no descriptive sex scenes. I also love the redemptive quality in these books. Although there are villains in her stories, the story is written in a way to highlight how the hero overcomes more than how diabolical the villains are.
She chose a great narrator for this book. As I listened to her read the story, I had to keep reminding myself that it was just one person. As she did the different voices for the different characters, it was easy to distinguish the different characters. I also really enjoyed the Canadian accent.
I look forward to reading this another time. I also look forward to seeing this come out on television.

a great story narrated by a great story teller
What happens when you take a great story and you give it to a great narrator? Answer: Salt and Stone. The story, as written by A. L. Knorr, is great all by itself, but mix in the great Marni Penning and you sink into the story. Marni Penning tells the story in her unique way, and you can't help the tears that spring in your eyes in the sad parts, nor the joy that fills you in the happy parts and at the conclusion. Loved every part of this beautiful book, and the great talent of Marni. Kudos.

New spin-off series from Knorr's Elemental univers
I first bought and read this book, and then I listened to it on Audible. I loved it just the same both times!
While this is the first book in The Siren’s Curse series, I definitely recommend you read/listen to “Born of Water” and “Mira’s Return” first. Ideally, I would recommend you read the whole Elemental Origins series first, but those two I mentioned are the ones where you will get the necessary background to not have too many questions about how the characters got where they are now.
That being said, I must say I love where Targa’s and Mira’s story progresses. We not only get to see how they adapt to their new lives in Poland, but we get to see how Targa’s powers evolve and this is the bit of fantasy which attracted me to Knorr’s book in the first place. She has wonderful ideas about what a mermaid and an elemental are, about what they can do. But this series also tells us where they come from, which is amazing!
Besides totally envying the creativity of the author, I also love her writing style. Her pace and choice of words are perfect to me. She manages to have a well-paced plot and still develop her characters, something not many authors figure out.
Overall, I love getting lost in her mermaid universe. So I really recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, urban fantasy and mermaids in particular!
In the case of the audio version, I was a bit hesitant because this is a different narrator than the one that did the main Elemental series. I was afraid it would turn out too different and that would have bothered me (I am VERY VERY picky with the narrators, especially in the case of book I’ve read before I listened to them). But Marni Penning seems like a natural extension of the first narrator and even kept the same tones for the supporting characters (flashback to Georjie’s voice, which is deep in all the books). This attention to detail makes it a very good quality production for me. So, in the end, I loved the audio version as well!

Hopeful
Purchased this for a long drive and got to chapter 12 hoping there would be a turning point past the repetitious same things. I don't mind a level of repeating to recall for readers but the story seemed stalled at the same mom issue over and over and over just about every few sentences that instead of building turmoil it detracted and became an irritant. Very off putting to even want to attempt to finish it as now everytime I hear mom or siren tears I roll my eyes and tune out.

Amazing!
Having listened to all the other books in the Elementals series, I was more than ready for this book, the continuation of Targa and Mira's story,
Having moved to Poland to take over the Novak company, Targa and Mira are learning to adapt to a new lifestyle, except Mira starts her salt cycle - meaning she will have to leave Targa and return to the sea. She fights it, but she has become so frail and a ghost of her former self. Targa, despite not wanting to lose her mother, takes her to the sea and gives her blessing to leave (make sure you have plenty of tissues at this point).
There's a few twists and turns - one of which I did not see coming! Who is trying to break into the Novak mansion, who can Targa trust, and will Targa see her mother again?
This is a really great listen and the narrator. Marni Penning, does a fantastic job - she is really pleasant to listen to and is good with accents so we can tell the characters apart.
If you haven't listened to or read the Elementals series yet, listen to/read them first otherwise you will not understand the back stories of the characters - and the previous books are just as good as this one :)

Loved this, heard almost non-stop!
I read the book for this about a year ago, and could hardly put it down… Hearing this now renews my enthusiasm for the story, and is leaving me champing at the bit to hear the rest of the trilogy adapted.
I liked the reader, she put a lot of emotion into her voice as she was reading the story, and was very easy to listen to.
The story is a continuation of Targa’s saga, as she rejoins Anthoni in Poland; with her mother, Mira, who is fighting the call of the sea, she has to learn to adapt to her new role in the Novak mansion. As you can expect nothing is straightforward, and a mystery regarding the disappearance of an artifact from the Sybellen brings a shocking realisation to light… No spoilers, just read it… You definitely won’t be disappointed!
