Publisher's Summary

A survivor on the run

After refusing the laws of her sadistic pack, Skye Markham barely escapes with her life, seeking sanctuary with the feared Blackwater pack. Hunted by her former Alpha and his soldiers, she’s determined to create a life even though she knows they will come for her.

An alpha with a pack to protect

As the next alpha in line, Remy Holt has spent years guarding the Blackwater pack and his family from those who seek to seize control and destroy them. The last thing he needs or wants is Skye Markham and the dangers she brings with her adding to the stress on his pack, but his wolf has a different opinion. He wants her, and after one moment that shouldn't have been possible, he knows he’ll never be able to let her go.

A bond unlike any other

Skye thought she was finally safe, but as her bond with Remy strengthens, the shifter world starts to break apart at the seams. Missing shifters, a dying population, and pack wars are all causing their sanctuary to crumble around them, and Skye is trapped in the middle of it all. Someone is out to destroy the pack and if they succeed, there will bring down everything Remy has sought to protect and for Skye...maybe there is no such thing as a sanctuary.

Sanctum is the first book in the Blackwater Pack series. It is 135,000 words. It is a paranormal fated-mate romance. Possible trigger warnings: abuse, violence, language, and bullying.

A different take on shifter books

I've never been a huge fan of the alpha/shifter genre so I started this book somewhat reluctantly - and not only did I LOVE IT, I think it will further ruin the genre for me by making me unable to read anything else related.
It's just so.. different.

Remy is just the picture of how a true alpha should look and behave like, I was so happy to finally meet a decent guy who can still be insanely sexy while not being arrogant and cocky, while respecting personal space and generally always doing the right thing. Hannah managed to break the master-slave usual fashion of these books and paint a way more humane, healthy relationship while still maintaining the difference between a crowd and a pack.

I love every character here. Everyone have their own little quirks and humor and are not revolving along a flat line of the same usual mold for a main character. It's clear the story and it's characters are well thought through, to a petty reader always looking for plot holes to complain about it was heaven.

The romance in this book just.. Sits well with me, you know? I'm buying it. I read a lot of YA/NA, and the usual gist of these books, at least the old-school ones, is either teenager=stupid or they just act like plain adults. Sanctum is the first time I actually relate on a nostalgic, personal level and could at each point of the story remember that the characters are teenagers finding their first love. While having to deal with adult issues, it was clear they were still having a younger method of thinking and perceiving their reality, in a way that made sense for my adult reading mind. (did this even make sense?)
It's really clear Hannah remembers how it was like being that age, having responsibility suddenly thrown on you, falling in love, being hurt for the first time - and she managed to perfectly illustrate it, while avoiding clichés and diabetes inducing sweet parts.

The storyline wasn't too busy with details or action, but at the same time it kept my interest and did not at all feel forced or irrelevant. I enjoyed every moment and didn't have to shut my brain down like I usually have to even with my favorite books of the genre.

Overall - this book should be way more famous and stand at the top of the shifter arsenal. Definitely a five star read.

Must listen!

First off, mad props to the narrator for doing an awesome job! She does a fantastic reading of a great story. I love Skye and her friends so much. The character development and the originality of the plot are unmatched. I’m b it a fan of shifter novels, but this has left me wanting more!! This is a must read and I can’t wait for the rest of the series!!

Pretty Brutal Very Good

Not gonna lie, this was a brutal story. I wish the MC was older, but the age the author picked is better to highlight the depravity of her old pack. She is 17 and the author writes the story like they are mature teenagers. Most authors either make them too child like or too mature. This story was a perfect balance of romance/highscool/and evil. I even found myself laughing here and there.

Remy, So Refreshing!

I must say it was so good to finally hear a shifter story where a next in line "Alpha" acts like a gentlemen and lacks the EGO that makes your eyes roll. Remy will be the next Alpha and at 19 years old finds out his mate is Sky. He treats her like every girl shifter or not would love their true love to treat them. Remy was so refreshing!

Now, I will say I really felt uncomfortable with the storyline as I never like hearing about women being abused, and Sky and her mom Addy were abused pretty much their entire life, and honestly, this may trigger some women. However, they did escape that horrible life and found love, peace and respect with the Blackwell Pack. Sky became annoying at times, because for a rare strong shifter, she snivels and acts like a brat throughout the story even though Remy treats her like a Queen!

I must also mention that Stefanie Kay did an amazing job with the narration, which I feel makes or breaks the story. She got the voices right, that's for sure!

I was very disaappointed to find that I can't continue this series on "Audible" because the books are not available. I honestly wish that Audible will no longer allow an author to be on the Audible platform UNLESS they allow their entire series to be on there, so we the listeners can finish the series. I will now have to wait for them to become available on audible before I continue with this series. What a Shame!!!

Rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, Mary Sue

I believe this story's main character fits the definition of a "Mary Sue". This writer's constant use of rape and sexual assault to drive the plot forward or to show who the "bad guys" are is gross, chauvinistic, and lazy. The entire plot revolves around rape and sexual assault, honestly; it needed a huge content warning in the summary/blurb. Moreover, the WAY in which rape and sexual assault were treated was not as well-done as it could have been, considering how often it's mentioned or used to drive the story forward.
There was a lot of pointless filler (e.g. learning how to cook?!). The dialogue was pretty bad.

I'm a little amazed that this book is getting such great reviews. It's not a good book and the longer I listened the worse I felt for the narrator having to read it.
I guess the narrator did a really, really good job with the material for so many folks to be bamboozled by bad, rapey writing.

Wow! *trigger warnings, but well worth the read

Excellent narration. Powerful story well written. Pulls no punches. Very candid, but does not exploit or glorify themes of rape and abuse.

Unexpected!

I had this one in my library for a bit before I read it. I love paranormal and fantasy romance, but they all start to sound the same after a while so I was hesitant to read it. Right from the beginning the story had me. I loved Sky and wanted to know more about her and I was rooting for her the whole time. I like how the love story was a slow burn and not insta love or insta lust. Remy is not your typical domineering order barking alpha. He's strong but he's kind and understanding and I love how he loves Sky. The love story is what ultimately had me hooked. I'm only bummed the other 3 books in the series are not on audible. I really hate to read things myself, but this series is sooo good that I'm half way through reading book 2, which seems to be equally as amazing as this one. Definitely a must read!
