Publisher's Summary

Through Commodore Slater’s efforts, humanity’s war with the council is over. He gave Earth the tools it needed for victory, but at a great cost to himself. The Franklin was destroyed, and his core is slowly dying.

Discovered by those who seek to use him for profit, Slater is taken to Sarton Station. His captors intend to use him for their own amusements, but they have made a deadly mistake. They have placed a derelict core right where he wants to be, in a station surrounded by all the salvage and biomass he needs to recover his mind and rebuild the Franklin.

Slater needs to work quickly, as a new threat emerges from the darkness of space, a threat more deadly than the council, a threat that has its sights set on Earth.

For the military fan this is a great story

This is a great ending and a great start for a new series it has a lot of military action political drama and it hasn't easy flow to us It's winding up the series but leaving the threads that can start a new series

I just like this series

As covered in my earlier reviews, this book has some shortcomings, but I just like the story, pace, and characters. The narrator is a little less irritating with the secondary voices, but I'm not sure if the narrator changed something or if I've become used to it. I'm a bit sad that book 4 isn't available yet.

satisfyingly good,

the story was a satisfying turn of the series, and I enjoyed it, but it didn't leave me blown away. I was able to call many of the events that happened well before they did. But that said I am big fan of both the Scifi and Fantasy genre, so there is a story combined them together in meaningful way. And the comedic moments made the journey worthwhile.

not too bad just had a slow start

the book was okay but I could have swore from time to time that I was in a pirate book because the person doing the narration sounded like a Blackbeard Pirate and so did most of the other characters

Space station dungeon arena

Commodore Slater helped lead humanity to defeating the council and their control over much of the universe. His ship was destroyed in the final conflict and his core set adrift. He is found by a junker and sold to a pawn shop. Meanwhile, a new threat has targeted humanity.

I have really enjoyed this series. It is so refreshing to see a sci fi dungeon core. This book corrected one of the things that I feel that the last few books were missing. This is a good stopping point, but there is room for a sequel.

Content warning. None

Lots of fun, if a bit predictable

I received this book for free, but the review is left of my own accord.

This is a fun LitRPG book that isn't too gamey. Most of the 'leveling' and such is left out, but there is enough to let you know you're still in the genre.

The story is fun, though there are some bits that are a bit predictable. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Good foreshadowing should lead to being able to foresee the coming events. My only real 'complaint' is that the major villain isn't well explained. I understand what it is, but there is no explanation for how it exists or where it came from. My hope is that if a fourth installment is done (there are enough threads hanging to warrant one, but enough closure in this book for it to not be needed) that there will be some exploration of that villain.

as always, Jack Voraces does a great job with voices. The sheer range in his voices continues to surprise me.

Read this if you enjoy military scifi.
Read this if you enjoy the Bobiverse series.
Read this if you like traditional fantasy monsters (dwarves, gnomes, orcs, etc) in your scifi.

Poor use of the Red hat of Command

All I can think of is that the red hat of command was just forgotten and not utilized. Disappointing

Superb Sequel

Absolutely brilliant. Ingenious story arc following the second book. Took me by surprise and managed to incorporate everything I loved about the previous books from a completely new angle. If Dean can do this for book three then there’s nothing stopping more instalments of the Franklin surely..?

Awesome narration, great story

I absolutely love the narration by Jack Voraces.
Also the story was something I've never seen before. Not even close.
Very unique and therefore very entertaining. Only let down for me is that it is very America focused (his choices on ship designs for example).

Would recommend!

A good continuation to the story and I will definitely read the next one (if there is one)!
To me personally, some passages felt slightly repetitive, but I think this is just the speciality of the genre.
The performance by J. Voraces was excellent, as always!
All-in-all would recommend for sure for those who had read and enjoyed the first two books. I some regards this one was even better that the second book.

Great Addition!

What I love about this series as it progresses is that it manages to stay fresh. This is the third book in the series and at the end of the second, I wasn’t sure quite where the story would go or how it could go on but the answer was no only satisfying, but it was a very enjoyable journey through it all.

I really enjoyed this one and Jack did a great job of the narration yet again. I’m now looking forward to the fourth book!
