Story
The Coalition is reeling. New Vega and its other worlds have fallen beneath the boot of the newly allied Savage marines, and the death count continues to rise at a staggering rate. One thing is clear: The war to come will be a fight for the very survival of the species. For both sides in this conflict, now is the time to become what fate, and victory, demand. The Savages - post-human monsters who believe themselves to be gods - are intent on remaking civilization in their own violent and pathological image. Yet their alliance is tenuous.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
The greatest conflict the galaxy has ever known....
They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.
Until the Savages came in from the Darkness....
When a Savage hulk lands on glittering New Vega, one of the crown jewels of the post-Earth galaxy, a coalition of planetary governments amasses their forces to respond to the post-human Savage Marines who've come to sack and enslave. But what the coalition forces find is something far more sinister than the typical Savage hit-and-run: this time, the Savages have come to stay.
Witness the intense beginning of The Savage Wars, the epic conflict, built into the lore of Galaxy's Edge, that will encompass over a thousand years of brutal fighting. Only the greatest military force in the galaxy can bring this war to an end...and the galaxy will never again be the same.
Experience the beginning of the Legion. Experience the Savage Wars.
Featuring an unforgettable performance by Stephen Lang (Avatar, Gods & Generals), Jason Anspach and Nick Cole explore the thrilling, desperate, and brutal war that forever shapes the galaxy....

A Great Voice Actor can make or break a book/serie
Iv read/listened to all the Galxays Edge books & drank the stories in. As soon as a new one popped up I bought it, recommendations unread, didn't matter cuz I knew it would be another awesome installment... & they pretty have beem until now. Why oh why would you guys allow your work to be read by such an untested one voiced actor. No check that, this narrator is not a voice actor he is a book reader with very little tone deferential & almost no ability to make different voice characteraations. He is painfully bad & has single handedly ruined my favorite story Arch. I'm about 65% of the way though Savage Wars Book 1 & don't think imma gonna make it & if that happens I won't be movung onward within this story Arch...& that's just plain unacceptable!
You have a go, cuz I Know you've love these book/series as much as I, but be forewarned, the narrator ruins this book! From R. C Bray to this? Guys, just what were you thinking?

This is exactly what I hoped it would be, an amazing dive into history about the most brutal conflict to sweep the galaxy. Told in the style of the legendary Stephen Lang, these characters were brought to life and the story was made real by this talented man. The Authors have once again delivered awesomeness to my ears! Meh
Savage Wars opens the same way as Legionnaire, you're thrust into the midst of a dangerous military engagement, introduced to a number of characters across the board and there's no indication who's central to the story and who's not. You have to make up your mind as the story plays out. As the attrition rate climbs the core players of the story rise to the surface.
And here is where RC Bray's brilliant narration of Legionnaire made that evolution a gripping experience. I cared about _all_ the characters, no matter how minor. From the members of Hyena Squad grouped too close together to the little girl buried alive, their fates had an impact on me. The dire circumstances Victory Company found themselves in on Kublar had me on the edge of my seat, worried about their survival the entire book.
I'm sad to say that Savage Wars does not have the same immediacy as Legionnaire. I was psyched when I found out Stephen Lang would narrate the trilogy. He has a terrific voice and I've enjoyed his performances on the big and small screens. Unfortunately, during the initial campaign segment of Savage Wars the majority of the time Lang is merely telling the story, which results in little to no emotional engagement. As a consequence, the brief scenarios of numerous minor characters during the battle, which _should_ enhance your experience like in Legionnaire, instead risk the story devolving into total confusion if not downright annoyance at being distracted. When Lang does choose to narrate a scene, there isn't a lot of distinction between the supporting character's voices. As Savage Wars continues, they became a bit more unique, but even during the latter stages of the story, there were still moments of figuring out who was talking. Lang's narration is nowhere close to the vividness RC Bray imparted from the get go in Legionnaire.
Bummer. I was hoping for an awesome listen. Instead it's nothing to write home about.

Huge fan of the GE series and somehow this is even better so far. Already pre-ordered the next two books. Stephen Lang was the perfect choice to narrate this series, his cadence is spot on and he has the calm, cool and collected air of confidence in his voice that you can feel in Cole/Anspach's main characters.

Outstanding listen
At long last the start of the savage wars and so much to absorb, how the legion started, who originated H8, who came up the war cry KTF and so much more, I loved this book, Stephen Lang narration was very good and he did Tyrus justice particularly after suffering Ray Porters interpretation (not to my liking but I know others enjoyed it) my only caveat with Mr Lang’s narration is when he takes on a female narrative, leaves a bit to be desired but that’s very minor, once again I state I loved this book and can’t wait for part 2

How To Start a Series and Kill Interest
Oh dear me!
I have no idea where the book and series go after the first third of the first book but I don't really care.
I enjoy stories of combat and fighting as much as any man my age brought up making WW2 airfix models and figures, playing with Napoleonic tin soldiers and generally growing up learning to not mention the War to any passing Germans.
However this endless mush of make believe combat left me bored, and despairing of any plot developing at all.The fantasy warfare that starts the book and goes on and on and on, is so dull and inconsequential to the reader that I had to quit completely rather than go on listening to another minute.
How do the writers imagine I am going to care a Fourpence Ha'penny Farthing, if they have not spent any time letting you get to know and care about either the characters or the situation.
Yes I have read the main series and I was hoping to hear about Tyrus Rex some more but really be prepared to struggle with at least the first half of this book.
If it gets better I don't know I will likely return the book and never find out, because at this point I am too disinterested to care.

The beginning of it all.
It reads like the laying out of a chessboard. Throughout the standalone story, you can see the origins of the Legion, the why 's, the wherefores and even the future battle cry's. KTF.

Cheesiest narration I've ever heard...
How did you get the narrator so wrong? I literally feel sick listening to this dude... He turns everything in to a laughable mash up of sarcastically flavoured boredom... I can imagine him saying "Oh yeah" in a disturbing and seedy way at the end of every paragraph... There's one good thing he does... Gives a slight pause before going into character, but the characters are all pointless to me 10 hours in now, so I'm frankly asking for a refund... I have no idea what's going on with the book cos I can't stomach to listen to it so I am not following...
I don't know the story with R.C. Bray... I don't know why you haven't asked him to do all the books... It makes sense because each narrator brings in their own flavour to the stories... Maybe Bray is asking for too much money idk... but this new guy is a complete joke and I will never buy another from your series with him narrating... I'm sorry but that's just how strongly I feel about it... Without Bray, it's never going to be the story you set it out to be... Not for me anyway...

A long story.
Stick with it you will find it difficult to put down.
A good narration rather like listening to Stallone at his best.

I think it's good...I think
It's a cool story, but I'm not sure about having Stephen Lang narrate this quintessential prequel to the Galaxy's Edge universe. Lang is not a bad speaker (Well, he's certainly very talented) - the problem is that his style doesn't work for Galaxy's Edge, especially after R.C. Bray's brilliant job in the first season. When in a pitched battle between bombs dropping, a stressed soldier speaks like Christopher Walken, or in a heated argument the two impassioned officers converse like Sam Elliot, it's not as immersive. But still a cool story and (oncevyoi get used to Lang's style) a good audio book.

OUTSTANDING
This book for me is the best in the whole series, you get to feel right in the thick of it. The scale is epic and I want more books to come from time period.

Excellent story but poor performance.
For anyone who’s read Galaxy’s edge this is just what you’re used to. Action, colour and intrigue.
The narrator is good at what he does but the performance seems to be put together from two separate reads that vary greatly in quality. The switch between them is jarring when it happens and sometimes that is often. Disappointing.
This book is unlikely to hook a new comer to the franchise, but is a good read for those into Galaxy’s edge.

Slow Start but stayed true
The beginning of the book was very hard reading, I saw little cohesion and the storyline was all over the place. Not to mention slow. Full of names I didn't recognize. Until the usual hero ditched the facade, then it hot interesting and the book payed off

Seems like a good story.
Struggling to get through this story and I'm not even reading it. To be fair I've only listened to Old Republic books and I may be used to the subtle background noises they include, but the narrator is not drawing me in with this one. Its a shame I'll probably finish this story then been done with this series.
