Excellent, intense new thriller

This 3.5-hour book really packs a punch with a fully realized plot and emotionally gripping writing. This is the second book in the Lacey James series, but it is fine to read it first. Lacey James is an intelligent, resourceful, stubborn cop in a small town in Oregon. She has two kids, and her husband just left the army to live with them full-time. Lacey is having very realistic marriage problems, which might give emotional turmoil to some listeners. A woman named Audrey was supposed to arrive at the New Year’s Eve party Lacey was attending, but she goes missing, and Lacey immediately starts the search. Trigger Warning Note: this book contains brief but strong violence, a few minutes of goreyness, and a danger of hypothermia. The story is told in third person past tense perspective of Lacey and Audrey.

I loved the character development of Lacey and her husband. I also was extremely impressed at the thrilling writing. The victim Audrey’s experiences and Lacey’s hunt to find Audrey alive were both tautly written. The author is also gifted at sensory descriptions of the settings, and I could completely visualize the snowy night and all of the surroundings. I highly recommend this audiobook to thriller fans and to police procedural fans, and I am definitely going to listen to the rest of the series.

The single narrator, Cassandra Metcalf, gave an expert performance. She is remarkably gifted at men’s and women’s voices, pacing, dialogue, and emoting. I found her vocal tone to be pleasing to my ear. The sample sounds rather sarcastic, but that was because of the character, who became less sarcastic fairly soon after that. The narrator enriched the reading experience and quickly allowed me get fully absorbed in the audiobook.

I requested and received a free audiobook code from the #Flock group, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review. #Flock, #AudiobookObsession

Enjoying this series...

I was delighted to see Save Her land into my Audible account. Chris Patchell did a great job at keeping me captivated. I really enjoyed the idea of this ex couple heading to a party together when they get in an argument and he drops her off in the middle of the night, in a winter storm, deep in the woods without a soul around, and still miles from their destination. You’d think no one in their right mind would just drop off a single woman in the middle of the night in the woods for her to fend for herself. What happens with Audrey when Jake speeds off upset and angry with everything? Lacey is on the case and she’s determined to find Audrey.

I really enjoyed Chris Patchell’s story and writing. Save Her was a bit on the shorter side but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in action and suspense. I happened to enjoy this book more than the first in the series. Lacey is enjoying some downtime in the mountains with her husband. They are taking some time and working on their relationship. The narrator for Save Her, Cassandra Medcalf, did a fabulous job. She’s an excellent narrator and really brings Lacey to life.

a race against time

Like the first [audio]book, I have to praise the cover of this one. It’s absolutely stunning and really draws you in. Chris Patchell does an excellent job at giving us a story with a high level of suspense from start to finish. I love police officer Lacey James. She’s a smart, strong, and determined female lead. Audrey Drummond is such a great character. Very relatable and likeable. It was easy to feel connected to her and follow her tortious journey. I’d like to see her ex-boyfriend in the next book as one of the victims after what he did to her. Just saying. The one thing I don’t like about the story is Lacey and Caleb’s relationship. They need to make a decision. $h!t or get off the pot. But that’s just a personal opinion and doesn’t distract from the story. I did enjoy the strong feelings and tension it gave to the story. This was another unputdownable listen from Chris Patchell!

Cassandra Medcalf was perfectly cast for this role. Her timing, pitch, pace, and tones were spot on. She really brought this story to life. her characterizations were excellent. Between the first audiobook and this one, Cassandra has definitely developed a strong connection to the characters and portrays each with their own uniqueness. She projected every character’s emotions flawlessly. I highly recommend the audiobook version of this book. Thank you to Fireside Audio for gifting me this thrilling audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A shorter listen

This is the second book/first series I've listened to by Chris Patchell. I thought the first book was short, but this one is shorter. It's a great length for when you need a few hours to pass quickly though. SAVE HER can be a standalone, but you get more from listening to the first book as well. It had a greater mystery that I throughly enjoyed! The writing, storyline and characters continued to be well written. I'll admit that I restarted it to take notes on all the characters thrown out at first, but it wasn't necessary. There wasn't a huge mystery in this one, but the suspense as how it all resolves was intense. As a hopeless romantic, the relationship between Lacy and Caleb is killing me. Again, I love the double meaning behind the title. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Cassandra Medcalf is an excellent narrator. Her performance for both male and female voices were well done, smooth and emotional.

Worth a listen!

This is a the second story in this series. Ot is just as action filled and suspenseful as the first one. I like that this is a shorter story filled with characters I care about…even the secondary ones. This is written and moves right along. I did listen to this on audio. Cassandra Medcalf does a super job narrating all the characters that pop up in these stories.

Exciting!

The second book in the Lacey James series, Chris Patchell explodes immediately with suspense and drama! While these books are short, they are chock full of thrilling excitement and just enough romance to peak my interest and keep it engaged. Lacey and Caleb are back together, at least they appear to be. Life just isn't the same as it was, and it's like going through the motions. Lacey is called out on search for a friend of hers, Audrey, who disappears after leaving a New Year's Eve Party. Blizzard conditions and no idea where she has ended up has Caleb coming to her side using his search and rescue skills. What has happened to Audrey? Will these two find her in time? And will they figure their own problems out? Mysteries are so exciting, and this one had me from the start. I enjoy Patchell's writing as we venture back and forth from Audrey to Lacey and Caleb, following both stories until the converge. This is another thrilling installment and I can't wait to see what Patchell has in store for us next!

Cassandra Medcalf falls in to character once again as Lacey! I love her voices and the way she portrays each character. Different voices make the story come alive and the suspense build. She is perfect for this series I am really enjoying getting to know her better!
