Publisher's Summary

"A heartfelt, hopeful, and humorous exploration of the importance of learning to love yourself...a joy to read.” (Booklist, starred review)

A delicious curvy romance about a plus-size sweetheart who gets a full-life makeover after a brutal breakup.

Savvy Sheldon spends a lot of time tiptoeing around the cracks in her life: her high-stress and low-thanks job, her clueless boyfriend, and the falling-apart kitchen she inherited from her beloved grandma - who taught her how to cook and how to love people by feeding them. But when Savvy’s world starts to crash down around her, she knows it’s time for some renovations.

Starting from the outside in, Savvy tackles her crumbling kitchen, her relationship with her body, her work-life balance (or lack thereof) and, last but not least, her love life. The only thing that doesn’t seem to require effort is her ride-or-die squad of friends. But as any home-reno-show junkie can tell you, something always falls apart during renovations. First, Savvy passes out during hot yoga. Then it turns out that the contractor she hires is the same sexy stranger she unintentionally offended by judging based on appearances. Worst of all, Savvy can’t seem to go anywhere without tripping over her ex and his latest "upgrade". Savvy begins to realize that maybe she should’ve started her renovations the other way around: beginning with how she sees herself before building a love that lasts.

This book is boring

This book is the same each chapter and for some reason the author made it 10hr of read time. Her and her friends go to lunch and workout, she works hard, she keep running into the same dude, her and her ex for some reason keep running into each other damn near every chapter. I only made it to chp 8.

What a cute story!

I’m glad I went ahead and listened to this in spite of some of the reviews I saw, because I really enjoyed it! It was nice to see it as much focused on the main character’s self-reclamation as it was on her cultivating a love relationship.

I was not a fan of the narration; while I’ve enjoyed Adenrele in other projects, I find it very difficult to listen to her read urban contemporary, as she is not very good at catching colloquialisms or young adult voices. Thankfully it didn’t distract from getting into the book; however, it did leave much to be desired.

Great job though, overall! Look forward to hopefully reading more from this author!

Very boring 😴

Finished it because I didn't want to waste my credit. The narrator voice changes was awful and she made Jonie seem old with her voice.

Great Book

It was refreshing for me to listen to a book that was about a black wan making positive changes in her life with the support of her true friends. There were no hidden agendas, backstabbing, jealousy etc just sisters supporting each other to make each other. I loved it!

Gave me Terry McMillan vibes

Great Listen, keep me interested the entire time. I saw myself as well as some friends throughout the book. Notes of everyday life based in reality, not your syrupy sweet romance.

Loved this book

I love everything about this book the characters the storyline the HEA. The main character has the best core friend group of any book I have ever read. The story was very easy to relate to because we all tend to live, love and work hard. But if one thing goes wrong or change we sometimes don't know how to deal with the situation. I like how the writer let her show a little weakness without making her bitter. She also built her back up to be stronger, more in touch with her feeling and the self love that she had at the end was amazing.
