Story
Ari had a game plan for life: shoot people. Get money. Hang out with fellow criminal friends. He saw absolutely no reason to change that plan until one dark night in Memphis, when a little girl reached out to him with pocket change and a desperate plea for him to help her. Adopting an abused little girl off the streets was, needless to say, not part of the plan. Ari had no idea what he was doing with an eight year old. He especially didn’t know how to juggle taking contracts and raising a little girl.

Tristan Everett has always preferred the company of the dead because they usually don't talk back. Being a somewhat awkward introvert working as a pathologist at the Hackney Public Mortuary suits him just fine. That is, until a freak accident with a rogue ice cube and suddenly he can see ghosts. No longer content to just lie on the table and let him figure out how they died, they're now peering over his shoulder critiquing his work and confessing their most lascivious sins before skipping off merrily into the afterlife.

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Story
Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin and the friends find themselves staring death in the face, they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be.

Publisher's Summary
Contains books two and three of the Scales 'n' Spells series.
Breath, book two
A Mage’s List for Freedom:
- Escape his evil, controlling clan.
- Get a job.
- Work magic on his terms.
- Avoid all dragons.
Tori was doing great until sexy dragon Baldewin interfered. Between the little gifts, constant protection, and the steadfast confidence from the overgrown lizard, Tori wonders if maybe that last step needs revising. He has no chance to consider it. Not before trouble called Jaeggi really hits. Now, he’s on the road trip from hell to the one place he’d never thought would be a safe haven. A clan of dragons. Assuming they make it, that is.
Wish, book three
North has a map of Europe, a dragon scale, and a little bit of magic. He’s currently short a dragon, but all in good time, right? Right. Because he can totally dodge dangerous men and frustrated calls from his family, all while searching for a dragon during the Christmas season. He’s got this. Christmas wishes do come true with a little magic, after all.

Imagine my surprise..
The second book is stronger than the third, third ends quite abruptly. We do get an epilogue but still.
So the surprise, Tori is Finnish and so am I. He's full name is Nestori and it did throw me for a loop since no Finnish person would ever shorten their name as Tori as it means marketplace in Finnish. Poor Joel Leslie trying to pronounce Finnish place names like Sodankylä and Kuusamo but all in all he did a fantastic job.
This is the best dragon shifter book series I have ever read/listen though, I really enjoyd it!

Amazing!!! Best dragon audiobook of the year!
These two stories are fantastic! The first has such an intricate and detailed plot that it is like an action/adventure movie in your head! The second is a bit shorter, so less explosions, but still excellent story building. Both are amazing in their characters, believability, amazing chemistry, great push/pull without having tortuous angst (a huge plus to me!) and are so fun! Joel Leslie always makes me happy, but he goes above and beyond in this audiobook. Seriously- there are always little pet peeves I have to ignore in audiobooks, however, there was nothing in this story that bugged me! Characters are German and Finnish- I watch a lot of foreign tv, and from what I can tell, the accents are spot on without being overdone/fake! Even better is the fact that the narration between conversations is done in an English accent. It makes each character stand out, so no matter where you start in the book you can understand who is speaking. Two thumbs up, six out of five stars, 150%, A++

Getting a little repetitive...
Book 2 and 3 still have enjoyable characters and entertaining dialogue. That is brought out and shines by the performance of Joel Leslie.
However, books 2 and 3 follow a format FAR too similar to book 1. Character introduced, character rescued by dragon, character falls in love with dragon, character and dragon get hot and heavy.
This is fine and all, but the fact that things move so fast and the overarching plot is barely developed cheapens the whole thing and makes book 2 and 3 feel like cheap copies.

Dragons and Mages oh my
I love this series! Stories about dragons are some of my favorites so add in mages, magic, and mates and you will definitely have a winner! I am also a huge fan of Jocelyn Drake and AJ Sherwood. These authors have outdone themselves with these books. Our dragons and grumbly and protective while our mages can be clueless and stubborn. Also Joel Leslie is just amazeballs at everything he narrates. His characterizations and accents never falter from one person to another. Highly recommend if you like light hearted urban fantasy with love and fated mates!

Sigh...
This was a full book and a short story in the same audio, so I will review it as separate stories.
Breath was about an older mage who left his village due to the homophobic and anti-male mage feelings of the clan. He ran away to a big city and of course got noticed by the bad mages. Baldewin shows up and after a really bad first meeting, started wooing him with food and socks. Surprisingly this worked and they end up together 'cause they were mates. The kings of the Ice and Fire clans go out to meet the clan that Tori came from, end up saving them from the evil mages, and start a dialogue with them.
Tori was a virgin and they end up living with a HEA.
Wish was about a young mage from the southern United States who hunts down the dragons and ends up finding Warin. I'm going to spoil the story by telling yall that they are actually mates and fall for each other instantly.
North was raised by parents who did not like that he was femme and gay. They wanted him to marry a girl and work in the business and to stop looking for dragons. His grandfather was the only one who supported him.
North was also a virgin and they end up living with a HEA.

Absolutely Love This Series❤️🥰🥰
So well written and the world building, MC’s, snark and sass of characters are great!
Excellently narrated (as usual) by the brilliant Joel Leslie, he’s just amazing at bringing the characters to life and his accents, phenomenal 🥰
Can’t wait to hear a lot more, and what was more unexpected was the fact that in this audiobook, you get book 2 and the novella (book 2.5) in one audio!!
Highly recommend this series if you love mage’s and dragon shifters 😁❤️❤️

Why did book 3 have to be so short.
I appreciated Tori's experience with being emotionally abued without it being horrific in nature. While neglect and oppression are horrible, I found the subtle 'low-grade' abuse a lot more impactful because of its everyday presence in the world.
Really frustrated that we don't get more of North. I really resonated with him and I loved his story(probably my favourite in this serise). I did enjoy the exploration of the faster 'knowing' experience though.

Just brilliant!
Breath:
There's plenty of drama and tension in this second book and the plotline continues. I really enjoyed the new character and the further development of the characters from the first book. The story is perfectly paced and there is plenty to keep the reader entertained. It's definitely a slow burn romantically but it's sweet for all that and I enjoyed the build up.
Wish:
Another brilliant instalment in the series with even more dynamic characters to love and adore. A plethora of sassy dialogue and a pile of gripping drama to keep you gasping as you turn the page.
I highly recommend you read these in order and the audio adds a whole additional level of fun and enjoyment.
