Publisher's Summary

My name is Selena Foster, and I am the first of my kind in a millennium.

I thought that made me invincible. Untouchable. All it really makes me is a target...and a weapon.

The Supernatural Council is going to war, and they've decided what better spear than the girl that can slay demons?

So they blackmail me, and I become the property of the Council.

They think they own me, but you can’t own what you can’t control.

I thought the first year at Daizlei was hard...but the second might kill me.
Either way, I'm not going down without a fight.

Enjoyed it for the most part.

MFC is definitely something else... smh! Chile the disrespect on this girl. she's talking to her sisters like they're not the same age as her. it's laughable. I think their age should've been a little older to make the dialogue make sense or just make her the older sibling. I had laugh when she realized that she's gonna have to work and stretch her mind and body to make sure others know who she is. Also, her sense of entitlement is absurd. Talking about human and you can barely pass gym class or regular classes. I hope thus new terminator attitude she put on don't destroy her and get more ppl killed. Otherwise, it's one of the better books I've listened to. The narrator was really good and not irritating that God.

I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first!

I will be honest I enjoyed the first book a little better. Selena got on my nerves in this book! I just felt she was a bratty girl who thought she was the only one with issues and did not care who she hurt along the way! I thought what she did to someone she called a friend was just mean! I still enjoyed listening to the book wish there was a little more action but it was still a good listen and introduced a lot of new characters! I hope the 3rd book has a little less of Selena’s high and mighty attitude and more action!

Woah! Didn't see that coming!

After I finished the first book, I thought I had an idea of the course the next book would take. Boy, was I wrong! There is a lot of action and so many new developments. There weren't a whole lot of answers given, and even more new questions posed. I do wish a bit more had been revealed, instead so many of new characters and mysteries being introduced, but it was still a great read. The middle dragged a little bit while Selena was in her self-pity cycle, but when she pulled out of it I was so happy that her character finally got her stuff together. Some of the major plot points throughout really reminded me of ACOTAR (especially the romantic relationship dynamics), which I didn't expect at all but found enjoyable. The ending was WILD and so much happened that my heart was racing. I cannot WAIT to continue the series. I was still on the fence after the first book and was afraid this would be a little too YA/academy for my tastes, but this book got me solidly on board.

The audio performance was, again, fantastic. I don't know if I would have gotten as engaged in the story if I were just reading the words. The haunting lullaby being actually sung was my favorite part and was so much more powerful than if I had only seen the words on a page.

love this

What just happened? I mean come on. I admit I am still not a huge fan of Selena herself, I want to smack her upside the head a bunch of times....but I adore the storyline and the fact that every single time I think I know what is about to happen, nope I am wrong...and that makes me love this series.
I have been reading and listening to this audiobook and I just couldn't stop.

Things are getting good!

I have been enjoying this series so much! And things are starting to pick up in this one. It wasn’t quite the character development with Selena’s character that I hoped for, but we’re getting there. She shoulders so much and you learn a lot more about her character.

I was very much Team Lucas in the first book, but that quickly changed in this one. I won’t say much, but a lot of changes are happening for everyone.

A lot different elements to this series are coming together and at times, I tend to jumble who is who. Quite a bit of supporting characters in this series.

Yet again, Stacey is such an amazing pick, she captures everyone so well. Im a huge fan and hope she’ll narrate the rest of the series!

Soooo ready to devour book 3!

Wow!!!

So much to process, all I know that this was a hell of a ride!! This series just continues to get better and better! Betrayal, love, and heartbreak happens in a blink of a eye in this installment and before you know it, it’s over. Selena’s character growth along with her sisters was nice to see in this book. I enjoyed the fighting scenes as well. So freaking good!! If you enjoy a fast pace paranormal read consider picking this series up.
The narrator, Stacey does a fabulous job with her voice and portraying all of the characters. Stacey did a wonderful job bringing the book alive for me. Fantastic listen!

No words!! What a ride!

If this was the second book I can't imagine how good the next one will be. There was so much that happened in this book. So many feelings. So many! Lots of turns and twists. I wasn't completely surprised by who turned and their actions the whole time. The character development is top notch.

Sometimes I have a hard time with second books and them keeping my interest. Not the case with this one. Each character went through so many ups and downs.

I loved the Latin and the dream scenes. The fight scenes! And the narrator did amazing. So much emotion. The inflections and feeling you could really feel through the spoken words were palatable. She did an amazing job!!

I read other reviews about this book and they said they were on the fence about Selene. What's to be on the fence about! She is kicka$$ and is about to tear down a power hungry and horrendous family so no one will ever be hurt again. And who is the other side.... I have a guess and pretty sure I'm right. But curious if Hecate will be brought up with that line in the epilogue..... And Nyx.

So excited for the next book!!

A fantastic sequel keeping me immersed.

The second book of the series and it was as gripping as the first. The story unfolds in ways you don't expect and it keeps you hooked. I cannot wait to know what happens next and will they get their revenge. The voice actor Stacey Glemboski does a fantastic job of bringing through the emotion of what's happening and I was completely immersed. If you enjoyed the first book you'll love the sequel.

Enjoyable and fast paced

I had very mixed views about the first book in this series, but enjoyed this one much more. Though there are still some things about the wider world that I don't think have been explained as well as they could be, once you put that aside this book is really enjoyable and draws you in more and more as it progresses. The narrator did a lovely job with a couple of bits of singing in the story, but I found it hard to identify some of the characters' voices occasionally. Overall I'm glad I stuck with the series and look forward to finding out what happens next.

A roller coaster ride

These book need to be listened to in order. This story starts of slowly and builds for a dramatic conclusion. Selena is forces to become the leader of group tasked with stooping the upcoming war. She meets her sole mate and loses her boyfriend. There are so many twist and turns, betrayals and secrets it will make your head spin. This is another brilliant book from Kel Carpenter.
The choice of narrator is excellent
I am off to read the next in this series .

Get tissues

This story just keeps getting better and better.. finally the sister have found a place that they fit.. it may not have people exactly the same as them but they are supernatural and there are plenty with their own secrets. Will a place that’s could finally be home, bring happiness and safety or more heart break!! If the council have anything to do with it.. it will be the latter. It might not just be their sanity at risk but their lives too. Scion is another fast paste, completely unpredictable, funny and at the same time heartbreaking story.. the fight scenes are epic as always.. absolutely amazing bring on the next one!!

Intriguing YA pnr with a darker twist

The story continues on from the first book, so must be read in order.  The pace was a little slow to start with, but the second half really packed a punch as the momentum and story built. Secrets, lies, betrayal, action, drama, unexpected allies and enemies align as we learnt the true extent of Selena's powers and I have to say they were pretty cool!

Tbh I still struggled to like Selena throughout, although I definitely understand her a lot more and she is growing on me chapter by chapter. She's very young (16) with attitude so it makes it harder for me personally to empathise, but I think maybe it's because there is no reprieve for her, almost no light in her darkness and there's been no time to see her relax. Part of that is circumstance, but part her own fault as she is too stubborn to really let anyone in, even the one person she should trust and learn to understand, who came as a big but very intriguing surprise. She is evolving and I wonder if she will be more of a bad-a$$ anti-style heroine as after that ending, I think there is a lot more death and destruction to come.

I listened to the audio version.  Told all from Selena's pov, the narrator is very good. Her voice depicts Selena's personality and attitude perfectly.

I'm really enjoying the overall story, but I do want to like Selena more. So far there hasn't been any romance, a big twist in the plot changed that direction, but I'd love to see some in the next installment. There is potential so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I absolutely loved the dark turn towards the end, definitely my cup of tea, so looking forward to what comes next. I wouldn't want to be in Anastasia's shoes!

Of love, friendship, betrayals and war...

I am a hopeless romantic so I loved how this book started on so many levels. Selena is no longer dormant and is being hunted. A war is on its wake and she is the Council’s main asset, wether she likes it or not. Yet, underlying all this madness, is the budding love story I was waiting for since book 1. Little did I know that Kel had some surprises up her writer’s sleeve. I loved to love some characters and to hate some others. I am just glad I am not in Selena’s shoes. I love how the tables turned and how the writing makes you root for a character you wanted to disappear only some pages before. I can’t wait for the next installment because now I want to know how all this will turn out. Oh and that lullaby is so beautifully sang that it still is in my head. I loved everything about this book.
