Story
Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

My first crush. My first kiss. The boy who ripped my heart out of my chest again and again. Over and over. I let him have it every single time. Willingly. We are that toxic high school couple you hear about, the one you witness in the hallway as they avoid each other. You laugh at them in class when they’re forced to work together, their gazes full of hatred. We are the couple you gossip about when they win homecoming prince and princess their sophomore year.... The back and forth is what kills me the most. I’m not his princess, I’m the girl he toys with when he’s bored.

I started flirting with a guy while waiting for my car to be serviced. Now granted, he wasn’t just any guy. Tall. Dark. Hot. Mysterious. Can you blame me for wanting to talk to him? He’s in town visiting his parents. So am I. He goes to the same college as I do. Such a coincidence. Almost as if our meeting is destined. But I shouldn’t believe in that sort of thing. I am single as a Pringle and always ready to mingle. Until I keep running into Mr. Tall, Dark, and Mysterious everywhere I go.

Candice Gaines loves Christmas. Not only does she bask in the twinkling lights, sing Christmas carols, and go crazy with the decorations, she’s also in the giving spirit - donating much of her time and wealth to various charities in the local area. Charlie Sullivan despises Christmas. Though it keeps his family afloat, considering they own Sullivan Family Christmas Tree Farm, the main provider for Christmas trees on the Monterey Peninsula. He’d much rather work among the trees than deal with people.

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

Cole Anders is in his last season at Fullton State. If he doesn't get drafted this year, he'll be forced to hang up his cleats for good. It's not something he's ready to do. To prove he's serious about his final season, he's given up girls. No more casual hookups, dates, or one-night stands. But there's one girl who has always refused to give up on him. One girl who has been there since the start of freshman year. One girl he stupidly assumed would always be waiting for him when he got off the field, no matter how long it took.

My heart opens to Cooper Haywood the moment we meet. How can it resist? He's charming, devastatingly handsome, and sweeps me off my feet before I realize the impact he's making. And then it's too late. We fall too fast to worry about the consequences. We love so hard that we ache when we're apart. Even though I have a past that still haunts me and he has a future that could put us at risk, none of that matters when we're together. Until it does. And then everything changes.

It all started with an anonymous letter. He wasn’t supposed to find it - no one was. And he definitely wasn’t supposed to answer it. We end up talking through letters and sticky notes in a book. All baring our darkest, deepest secrets. It’s all fun and games until I find out who my pen pal is...Xavier Emery. Publisher's Summary
"Lost. Everything in my life can be summed up by that one sickening word. My football coach blames me for our season-ending losses. So does the rest of the team. I wasted two whole months drowning in my own despair, like a complete loser. And I lost my girlfriend - Fable Maguire, the only girl who ever mattered - because I was afraid that being with me would only hurt her.
"But now I realize that I'm the one who's truly lost without her. And even though she acts like she's moved on and everything's fine, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. I know her too well. She's so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is be there to help her . . . to hold her . . . to love her.
"I just need her to give me one more chance. We may be lost without each other, but together, we're destined to find a love that lasts forever."

M-A-R-S-H-M-A-L-L-O-W
This book is told in alternating POVS of Drew & Fable and it picks up two months after One Week Girlfriend left off. Fable is trying to move on with her life despite the heart-break. She has a new job and is doing her best to take care of herself and her brother Owen. Drew is completely miserable without Fable but he still believes he is not good enough for her. So, Drew simply runs because thats what he does best. Eventually, he does take some steps in his life by starting to see a psychologist. Then one night Drew accidentally run into Fable at her new work place and it only takes seconds for the sparks to ignite. Soon Drew and Fable are lost in one another. They’re more open and honest with one another and it looks like everything is falling in place for them. But when Drew’s dad decides to divorce Adele and Fable’s mom skips out of town, taking everything with her and leaving Fable and Owen to fend for themselves, Fable and Drew must make a few decisions that could affect their future. If the secrets and lies from Drew's past are revealed, specifically to Drew’s father who's still in the dark about Adele, his soon to be ex-wife who's obsessed with having Drew for her own. She'll will stop at nothing to make it happen, even if it means getting rid of Fable by any means necessary. Second Chance Boyfriend is just like the title states. It’s all about second chances. This final book is truly about Drew & Fable finding their way back to one another, learning how to be there for one another while allowing their love to blossom. It focuses more on them opening up to each other & building a trusting relationship. Their connection is undeniable! They have crazy chemistry and u cannot get enough of their sexy times together! All in all, Second Chance Boyfriend was a tender-hearted and passionate conclusion to Drew and Fables love story.

Very good addition to the series :D
4 stars
This was a very good story. I really liked both Drew and Fable and was so happy to see things work out for them in this story. For anyone considering this that hasn't read book #1 [book:One Week Girlfriend|17202452] I would definitely recommend reading that before starting this book. The back story is decently spelled out in this book but I think there would still be gaps without the reading of [book:One Week Girlfriend|17202452] first.
Fable is a young woman that has a lot on her shoulders. She is pretty much a mother to her 14 year old brother, Owen, since their mother is a drunk that barely is around. She spent a week with Drew over Thanksgiving vacation and fell for him during that time but because of some seriously messed up stuff that went down, Drew pulled away and stayed away. After a couple months, Fable figured Drew was never coming back and tried to move on with her life.
Drew has had a lot of bad in his life, things that have scared him emotionally. Because of this, he shut down emotionally and Fable was the first girl that brought out emotions in him. Drew started falling for Fable over Thanksgiving vacation in his home town. Drew was very unhappy that she ended up finding out his deep, dark secrets but was surprised and happy that she could still care for him regardless of his dark past. Unfortunately, some devastating news he found out right at the end of book #1 caused him to freak and pull away from Fable. Once he pulled away, Drew had trouble going to see Fable because he felt she deserved so much better than him and was sure he'd messed things up so she wouldn't want him any more anyways.
Fable misses Drew but wasn't able to get him to return her calls or anything so she finally gave up. She ends up getting a job at a new restaurant where she makes much better money. Drew has been seeing a counselor (or maybe she's a psychiatrist, I can't remember if it said) about his emotional issues and trying to work through things. He lies to himself about how much he wants to see Fable but it's not just Fable he's pulled away from...it's everyone. His counselor recommended that he get out more and see friends so he agrees to go to the birthday party of one of the football team at a new restaurant in town. He goes and is surprised to see Fable working as a waitress at the restaurant. He doesn't approach her but when one of the other guys gets drunk and starts hassling her, Drew is quick to step in to try to help her. They end up getting a chance alone to talk but Fable isn't willing to trust Drew after he ditched on her and then left her alone for months so she's not very receptive to him. Later, Drew ends up texting Fable with their key word (from book #1), marshmallow, which has always been their keyword meaning one of them is in trouble and needs saving. This gets Drew and Fable together again and Drew is able to talk to Fable and get her to give him another chance. She's still leery of relying on him but is willing to start seeing him and see how things go.
Things are bumpy as Drew and Fable try to sync their lives together. Fable has never had anyone to take care of her and isn't used to taking help from anyone or having to rely on anyone so now she has trouble letting Drew in. Drew has never been in a relationship before and seeing that he has a tenancy to stick his foot in his mouth, he doesn't always say that right things and sometimes pisses Fable off. They both love each other though. They wont admit it to each other at first but they do make an effort to make things work and eventually are able to admit their feelings for each other. I really liked seeing them work through their issues and grow their relationship in to something serious and solid. They encounter a lot of drama that that has to be dealt with along the way. Mostly these are family issues as Fable's mom ends up completely deserting her and Owen so Fable becomes completely responsible for Owen. It doesn't help matters that Owen is freaked by his mom's abandonment and proceeds to blame Fable for their mom leaving (making things even harder on Fable but Drew steps up wonderfully and helps out as much as she'll let him). Drew also has family issues as his father and step-mother are going through a possible divorce and he's plagued with the doubts on whether he should tell his father what his step-mother did to him when he was young. The decision is taken out of his hands but it ends up being a good thing and Drew is relieved when his dad doesn't blame Drew for what happened. He's also very happy that this will mean that his step-mother will be out of their lives for good. Unfortunately, more drama comes their way when Drew's step-mother turns psycho and threatens Fable. Drew steps up again and puts himself in the line of fire to save Fable and the danger is brought to an end. After that we're given a bit more with a glimpse that goes a bit in to the future so we can see how things are going for Drew and Fable. I really loved the ending and loved seeing Drew and Fable get their well deserved HEA.
This was a very good story. I really loved Fable and Drew and enjoyed seeing their story. It was such a good story, seeing them work their way through obstacles to be together and support each other was great. Things weren't always smooth but it's great to see people that are willing to work to stay together and make things work. I'd recommend this book (but after reading [book:One Week Girlfriend|17202452]). Thumbs up! :D
* note - This audiobook had 2 narrators, one female for the parts that came from Fable's PoV and the other male for the part from Drew's PoV. They both did a good job and there were a few times (especially on the narration of Drew's PoV) where the narration surprised me with how well it expressed the emotions of that point in the story.

Less sex, more story please
First, let me say that I am a Monica Murphy fan and that fact has not changed. I was looking forward to this sequel, but I really struggled to finish. There was waaayyyy more sex than story. I would have loved to know more about Drew and Fable's future. All that said, I am still looking forward to reading more of Monica's books.
Also, I like Luke Daniels, but I felt like his voice made Drew sound older than he was. That was a little distracting in both this book and One Week Girlfriend.

I loved the first book and this one was a great story too. My only complaint is that I did not care for the voice the narrator uses for Fable. It was incredibly annoying.

Amazing
I loved this book! (series) the ploy was good, kind of predictable, but! these are one of the books where I liked the heroine just as much if not more then the hero in the story! Fable is an amazingly strong person, I liked how her character was straight up and honest and didn't pull unnecessary things I noticed the relationship, for having a messed up life both Fable and Drew have one of the most stable romantic relationships I've ever read!

I own this series both Kindle and audible!
Where does Second Chance Boyfriend rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Clearly Monica Murphy is one of my favorite authors!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When you get as invested in the characters like I do you can't help but feel everything they feel throughout the story. The author and narrator do fabulous jobs of portraying the characters!

When Drew finally proposed.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
They are both good and I'm glad the author kept them for the second book
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the mom finally left her kids, and Owens reaction. As a mom it killed me.
