Story
Years ago, Martin cracked open his Bible and began wrestling with a few fundamental questions. He asked, “What if every single word of Scripture is absolutely true and I can trust it? How do I respond? Something in me should change, but what? How?” This audiobook is the result of that exploration. Writing as our guide, he uses a storyteller’s imagination to illuminate key moments from the Scriptures, primarily from the life and ministry of Jesus. In addition, Martin shares key moments from his own journey as a disciple - and bondservant - of Christ and a mentor to others.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best-selling author Charles Martin offers us “grace, mercy, and forgiveness in this sweeping love story" (Publishers Weekly, starred review).
Allie is still recovering from the loss of her family's beloved waterfront restaurant on Florida's Gulf Coast when she loses her second husband to a terrifying highway accident. Devastated and losing hope, she shudders to contemplate the future - until a cherished person from her past returns.
Joseph has been adrift for many years, wounded in both body and spirit and unable to come to terms with the trauma of his Vietnam War experiences. Just as he resolves to abandon his search for peace and live alone at a remote cabin in the Carolina mountains, he discovers a mother and her two small children lost in the forest. A man of character and strength, he instinctively steps in to help them get back to their home in Florida. There he will return to his own hometown - and witness the accident that launches a bittersweet reunion with his childhood sweetheart, Allie.
When Joseph offers to help Allie rebuild her restaurant, it seems the flame may reignite - until a 45-year-old secret from the past begins to emerge, threatening to destroy all hope for their second chance at love.
In Send Down the Rain, Charles Martin proves himself to be a storyteller of great wisdom and compassion who bears witness to the dreams we cherish, the struggles we face, and the courage we must summon when life seems to threaten what we hold most dear.
“Charles Martin understands the power of story and he uses it to alter the souls and lives of both his characters and his readers.” (Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times best-selling author)

Charles Martin breathes life into every story
I have yet to find an author who captivated my attention and brings a story to life like Charles Martin. This one was no exception. While he sometimes includes a little too much detail for me about the area or other information of major interest in the story, it isn’t the case in this book. Each character comes to life in depth and the twists and turns in the main character’s life draw you in. There is no need and no inclusion of profanity even though the main character was deep within the horrifying events of war. This book will grip your heart and hopefully make you see past the surface of people and what you may think their life is about.

Vietnam, Heaven and Hell . . . LOVE
Charles Martin has once again told a fascinating story of sacrifice, betrayal and LOVE. Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for a friend . . . the book is very much an allegory of Christ's love for us, but that part is subtle and understated . . . and Joseph is very human and his mistakes are many . . . a book spanning over fifty years, with a trail of heartbreak and pain, it is a glimpse into the lives of three kids growing up together, trying to protect one another and find some simblance of normalcy in a world where grown ups did not act very grown up. Yet the bond of two brothers and one sweet neighbor girl somehow held over the decades, despite the wreckage that even they continued to pile upon one another as the years continued. That God does not care about the color of our skin, what language we speak, what we may have done in this world in order to survive is evident in this story . . . that His grace is sufficient . . . the book is over the top in so many places, but it makes you think . . . God DOES over the top things . . . God IS over the top . . . and still in the business of miracles . . . so don't hesitate to listen to this book . . . don't hesitate to let yourself FEEL again . . . cry again . . . and let the Lord send down the rain . . .

Great Author, terrible Narrator
While every story by Charles Martin is worth the read/listen, the narrator here is way over-dramatic. Even little tasks like walking down the street are made to sound like life-altering, sappy events. It's very hard to get past this.
If you can endure the drama of the voice and listen to the actual story, it's worth it. I recommend buying the physical copy and reading for yourself!

Charles Martin never disappoints.
Send down the rain is Charles Martin's latest book and I could not put it down! There are several stories wrapped together that intertwine into a bigger story. Love, betrayal, and forgiveness are the main themes throughout. Just when you think you have it figured out, there is a new twist.
JoJo Brooks is a likeable protagonist who unravels a story 45 years in the making. Definitely worth the read.

So disappointed
I made it to the middle of the book...just can’t get any farther. This book is full of characters that are haphazard and unbelievable, a plot that struggles to be remotely cohesive, and dialogue that continued to cause my eyes to roll.
