Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Warner spent his days like almost anyone else. He got up, went to work, answered phone calls in a call center, went home, spent time with his daughter, and went to sleep. Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over. Life was as mundane as anyone could ever fear it to be. Today was the day that all that would change. On this day, his daughter Maya would be nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic he’d never known existed. The only consolation is that he discovers he’s not quite human, either.

Publisher's Summary
Like millions of other kids, Jim grew up wanting to be a superhero. Unlike most of his contemporaries, however, Jim actually had the goods: a plethora of super powers that would have been the envy of any meta on the planet. But when his tryout with the Alpha League - the world's premiere group of supers - goes disastrously wrong, Jim basically becomes an outcast.
Two years later, Jim is still bitter about what happened to him. However, he soon finds himself the centerpiece in an odd turn of events that gives him a second chance at his dream. But nothing is as easy as it sounds, as Jim soon discovers. Among other things, he's made an enemy of a prospective super teammate, he's being stalked by an unknown pursuer, and a shadowy cabal bent on world domination has identified him as the only obstacle to their plans.
It's a lot for one super to handle, even with a smorgasbord of abilities. But if saving the world were easy, everyone would do it.

Did you say superheroes?
This was a great book. I was a little hesitate because i was afraid it would be to young adult. But it surprised me. It was full of action and held my attention throughout the book. It kinda reminded me of watching shows like Flash. The narration was great too. I hope there will be more in this series. I received this audio book free for an honest review.

So much fun!!
How have I not heard of this before!! This book was so much fun and even though it's only about 5 and a half hours long, it's chock full of action, adventure and super powers!!
Jim was such an amazing hero. He has multiple powers, and more arriving every day, which prompts him to try out for the Alpha League. While some of his powers are useless, he still hopes to become a member of the greatest superheroes ever. It's during his try outs that things start to go badly wrong and Jim finds himself on the run from the super heroes. He has to use every available power he has to evade them but manages to, for 2 years anyway! When he is finally found, his life will change forever, whether it's for good or bad though, you will just have to read it to see!
As I said, Jim is such an awesome hero. Being a superhero, you can't exactly be called Jim, so he changes his name to Kid. He has a plethora of powers, with more coming every so often, and I loved that about him. He may have been "special" but he wasn't arrogant or egotistical about it. He felt like a normal teen, with extraordinary powers. He was also so nice! All he wanted was to do good, but when the son of the most powerful superhero ever decides he doesn't like him, Jim has to become a fugitive. Even then, he still tries to do good!
Plot wise, it was fairly fast paced. I loved the sheer amount of superheroes, powers and indeed supervillians, we have in this book. Some of the powers were freakin awesome!! The author has really created an amazing world, filled with adventure, magic and powers. It's a world I can't wait to dive into again!!! Well written and developed, this was a truly entertaining read.
In all, I listened to this in a few hours and didn't want it to end. While some of the twists were predictable and you could see it coming, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.
I have listened to many, many books narrated by Mikael Naramore and have enjoyed his narration in every one of them. He has a voice that is easy to listen to and a wide variety of tones, that make the book more enjoyable. He is one of the few narrators I always recommend!
I received a free copy of this and voluntarily reviewed it. this in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

EXCELLENT. WELL WRITTEN AND PERFORMED
The plot was good and I found the protagonist very likeable. Mikael Naramore is a superb narrator/performer. I like his voice for all the characters. Most enjoyable. The idea of superheroes is fantastic. I will be following the series and I am glad there are already five books published so far. I hope Kevin Hardman will continue this series with more on the exploits and adventures of Jim (aka Kid Sensation).

I love super hero stories!
When I was a little kid in the mid-70's, comic books were not only an institution, but a prime source of inspiration. Now 40 years later the concept of super heroes still holds a warm place in my heart - even with the saturation of Marvel movies. So as soon as I saw this title, I knew I had to listen to it.
There was a bit of anxiety going in. Was it going to be a Superman knock-off? An Avengers clone? Turns out it was none of the above. There was a bit of teen angst, teen trickery, teen rivalries that brought me back down a notch and made me realize that this was a novel targeted for a slightly younger audience. But this didn't lessen the sheer glee in listening to a super hero story.
I wish, however, that there would have been a bit more conflict throughout the story, a bit more tension that something could have gone wrong with Kid or one of those he cared about. Without this type of tension in a book, something is lost. But this is the origin story, so to speak, and I've not read any of the sequels. Who knows? Maybe things get really dark for Kid in the future. I look forward to finding out.
All in all, this is a good listen. The narrator, Mikael Naramore, did a superb job with characters, inflection, and the many different voices he was tasked to read. Kudos to him!

Not My Cup of Tea
I was provided this arc via audiobook boom. This was more YA to me and I did not realize it. But the story was well written and performed. I liked some of the super powers that were exhibited. There were several plot twists and some of them threw me off but overall this is a good listen. Although a bit long for what was told.

4.5 stars- awesome start to a superhero series! :)
4.5 stars!
I totally love superhero stories of all kinds whether it be a book, tv show, movie, etc. This book has been on my radar for a long time, so I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook. I love when the character with the powers is a teenager or a child as well. My favorite part was definitely the scene at the end of tryouts! My only complaint was that Sensation had a lot of different powers, and the ability to gain even more. I feel like I would have preferred him to be a little less powerful perhaps. However, that is a very minor issue, and does not affect my feelings toward the story at all. Mikael Naramore was the narrator of the audiobook version, and his voicing was perfect. His voice for Kid Sensation in particular was spot on, and I really hope he voices the rest of the series as well!
This was an amazing start to the series, and I definitely want to continue with the next book. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a love for superheroes of any kind!
**I was given this audiobook at no cost. This does not change my opinion of the book in any way.

Not as dark and serious as the cover.
I really enjoyed it. Light weight, funny, predictable, teenage superheros.
Good narrator. Just the right amount of characterization.

Sky high meets playing for keeps
Great story and amazing narration. It reminds me of Disneys sky high and Mur laffertys playing ft keeps. Great superhero story with academy (kind of harry potterish) the story has it all. Well developed in a short time with plenty of depth to it. Hopefully there is more to come in this setting. The author has a rich world with tons of possibility that I would love to explore. Very Interesting Story!
Would you listen to Sensation again? Why?
I think I would. This was the first story I've listen to or read that DIDN'T involve some kind of love connection. Although Jim was interested in another superhero the story was more focused on him and what he was going through, rather than the love connection. The narrator did a great job as well. Although his voices weren't really that different between characters, I was still able to tell who was who.
What other book might you compare Sensation to and why?
There isn't one because I've never read a superhero story before.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I'm not sure, but I'd definitely go and see it.
Any additional comments?
I found it strange how nonchalant Jim's mother was when his father came to see Jim. Given the fact that they didn't have a real father/son connection (father not even knowing Jim was his son), why was Jim's mom getting mad that Jim had tried to walk away?

Entertaining Superhero Fun
I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sensation: A Superhero Novel was a fun enjoyable listen filed with action, snark and humour. The narrator did a brilliant job giving life to the many different characters and also bringing the story together as a whole. There are a few twists in the story, a few which were obvious in my opinion and a few which were not, but nevertheless, I was thoroughly entertained and will be listening to more audiobooks by the author and narrator.
This story is about Jim (Kid/ Kid Sensation) who has superpowers but had a catastrophe two years prior when he tried out prior for the Alpha League, the best super group, under a false identity. As the story develops in the present, you find out what happened in the past at those faithful tryouts and what went so terribly wrong.
As with all superhero stories, the superhero saves the day and prevails over the supervillain, in this case Jim saves the world from the super villains and their followers at the end but it is the journey that is action packed and entertaining which will have you coming back for the next story. In my opinion, definitely worth a listen.

Great start to a superhero story!
This was a very fun quick read. It’s reminds me of both Phipps’s Supervillainy series and of the modern TV show, The Flash. The Kid (aka Jim) is coming of age and he’s got all these powers. He’s living with his mom and his grandpa in a world where many people have some kind of super power. If you have one of these powers (or even more than one) you still have to pay rent. So many embellished humans work 8-5 jobs and generally have basic, boring lives.
Then there’s the academy, and it has tryouts. They only want the best of the best for their Alpha League! Alas, Jim isn’t one of those. So he uses his powers to go bounty hunting, hauling in the scum of the city for a reasonable paycheck. I loved the normal, mundane setting for theses extraordinary abilities.
Anyway, things get shook up a bit and Jim ends up working with the Alpha League to take out some more sensational bad guys – and perhaps one or more moles. It’s dangerous work that’s also put his family in danger. Turns out a relative has an anger management problem. Ooops!
My only complaint really is that it looks like The Kid Sensation is growing into multiple powers, so many that he’s nigh invincible. I generally like my superheroes to have weaknesses that they have to plan for or occasionally die from. For The Kid, this is balanced somewhat by his youth – lack of experience and a bit of naivety.
All told, it’s a great opening to what looks to be a promising series. 4.5/5 stars.
The Narration: Michael Naramore is just a lot of fun to listen to. With clear diction and a range of voices, he’s got a good fit for all the characters. I loved his deeper voices (like for Alpha or Omen). He’s also got a teen voice for Jim and a grumpy old man voice for Jim’s grandad. His female voices are decent too, sounding feminine. The pacing was spot on and there were no technical issues with this recording. 5/5 stars.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent Superhero Story
Hardmans portrayal of a world where superheroes are common and Teen superheroes all try to make a superhero team is great idea.
The usual fight against evil is present and he typical angst of hiding your secret identity against the world is not unusual, however multiple superhero powers are not infrequent and this raises a lot of hardmans story above the usual.
The hero in this case Kid Sensation (Jim) is without a father but has great help and training from his Grandfather and Mother both holders of superhero powers and an super friend.
Things go aginst our Jim when he falls out with the premier Superhero team during trials for acceptance and his life takes a strange twist.
The story follows typical lines but Jim's story is told quite well if a bit obvious in some places, ideal for the young adult market but will be accepted by a lot of adults in part due to Hardmans skills and the usual excellent narration by Narramore.
Overall i would quite happily follow more of Kid Sensations adventures.
This audio was gifted to me and i choose to leave an honest review and as such is based on my own opinion.

"This is Kid Sensation."
Any additional comments?
Meet John Indigo Morrison Carro, more usually known as Jim, a sixteen years old, normal teenager, well, almost normal. He does have a few abilities not usually found in the everyday teenager - like telekinesis, shape shifting, teleportation and being able to fly - plus a few other handy little attributes. But he is lonely, without a father, rejected by the League and there is a group of six Masters out to get him.
This is a nicely written, lightweight, fun story filled with colourful characters and unsubtle humour (like the name of the psychic, Claire Voyant), a brightly pictorial two dimensional tale of super hero struggles, from trying out for the football teams to saving the world. Written in the first person from Jim's perspective, It is a comic book of the written word.
Narrator, Mikael Naramore, is, as usual, superb breathing life into the characters as he gives distinctive voice to every one besides taking on the persona of Jim, Kid Sensation, himself. His reading is perfectly modulated throughout - with a touch of whiney teenage angst thrown in occasionally.
My thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of his book, Sensation. It was a fun romp, perfect for young adults but also pretty good for those of us that time has moved along.

Superheroes!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sensation?
Jim pretty much sacrificed his life to save everyone around him, luckily his superpowers saved him but he too the risk without know this!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I liked when Jim's dad was finally revealed, though I suspected from a while earlier it was good to have my suspicions proved right.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I definitely didn't want to stop listening to this, unfortunately life got in the way and I had to take 2 sittings to finish the book.
Any additional comments?
This is a world where super powers are not quite as uncommon as our world, it is a cool mix of YA and superman.
Jim is a normal teenaged boy with all the usual teen issues to deal with, along with something extra, he seems to have more superpowers than all the other heroes put together and this doesn't make his life any easier.
