Wow this was pretty good

I wasn't sure what to expect, since it's the first in a new series but I guess I should have known it would be good, given Chaney's track record. As usual, he doesn't disappoint. The narration, writing, and story are all top notch. Great job as usual.

Live Free

I'm a simple guy. I see Chaney, I buy.

This one delivered exactly what I wanted. A great story ,fun characters, and a superb narration. My only question is when is book 2 coming out? I see it's out on ebook already, so I hope that means the audio is around the corner.

I love how Chaney puts these out so efficiently. It's incredible.

Premise is horrible.

Even though the fact that the MC gets assigned to military service for a traffic violation is clearly stated in the description, it doesn't tell you that mortality rates are 78% and up in the current war. In addition, somehow other enlisted know your a "convict" and not a volunteer and you get crap for it. Also, the modifications that the MC undergoes he has no choice about. Now, if you did that to me, I would be killing a lot of military brass after my upgrades as well as politicians and judges as a thank you. Instead, the MC just takes it. I won't be reading anything this author rights in the future.

So good

It's been a while since I read a good military book. This one, written by two veterans, shows what happens when you actually put some love and care and experience into the writing. Rev is just a kid when the book starts, but he grows up fast. I'm excited to see where this series goes. Hopefully they put more out soon.

No.

Run screaming in the opposite direction. Uninspired characters, and thin plot. I'm not sure where the plot is going to go but I'm not sure anyone else knows either.

You can't go wrong with a Chaney book

I am a huge fan of Wayward Galaxy and Renegade Star, so when I saw this one, I suspected it would be good.

I was right! The fight scenes are really good and the writing is what I have come to expect. Easy to read and satisfying. Great job as always. I will be eagerly waiting for book 2.

Written a million times before

Adds nothing unique to the standard Starship Troopers troupe. At best a beach read to waste a day.

It’s like Starship Troopers meets the Dirty Dozen

Chaney has a proven track record of collaborating with authors on good stories and Brazee is no exception. Sentenced to War pulls in familiar elements from some favorite Sci fi stories but adds a few new twists. It doesn’t drone on with endless world building or over explain things the reader doesn’t need to know. I enjoyed the audio book and look forward to the next one.

surprised

I was stuck in an author rut. Not as a writer but as a listener stuck on a certain author. Just finished Wayward 2 and before that The last Reaper and before that I worked my way through the entire Renegade Star series. . . . you get the point. Rather than expand my horizons I stuck with the familiar. Wasn't sure about this new, totally unrelated book but to be honest I was totally surprised. Awesome book and I sincerely hope there is a follow up. going to look now.

Fantastic story

Will appeal to vets and anyone who appreciates a good marine scifi story. Loved the creativity with the aliens and the premise. The narration was great, too. I hope this is a long series because I'd love to see the universe explored in depth as it goes.

"Respect to the fallen."

Life was good. Rev was seventeen, soon to follow his step father into the Crystal build training when a minor traffic infringement had him brought before the judge. Expecting a fine, perhaps some sort of community service, he was horrified to find himself sentenced, without appeal, to a term of military service instead, time unspecified, to begin as soon as his eighteenth birthday had passed. This book is the story of his induction into the Marines and his early combat assignments.

The training aspect was enjoyable, though it has been done better in, for example, Terms of Enlistment by Marko Kloos, and the subsequent battles were novel, well written and engaging. Narration was by Jeffrey Kafer, always a pleasure to hear. The first of an already substantial series, I am not sure if I will continue despite enjoying this initial book - the characters did not quite appeal sufficiently to ensure my commitment. But it was a good story for those for whom military action holds more appeal than the actual science friction

I’m not a quitter, but…..

First book in 60 that I could not get through, little or no back story, no side story, no character development
It’s like it’s been written by a school student, “and then I did this, then I did that, then he did this”
It just goes on and on
No proper descriptions of anything, jumps from place to place with no explanation
And read in a frustrating way to make every little point sound important
I just had to stop.

Great story, but......

loved the story with only a couple of complaints, 1. No clear description of the Centaurs makes it hard to understand what they're really up against & 2. Dissapointing that Jeffrey Kafer didn't research the pronunciation of Islandlwana, "Iss-and-Lu wanna" it tainted the story.

Good entertainment

The movie Starship Troopers meets Old Mans War, The Forever War and Independence Day, with a spot of the Polity universe thrown in for good measure. Well narrated and enjoyed listening to it.
