Publisher's Summary

The storms are coming....

Something has happened to Serafina. She has awoken into a darkness she does not understand, scarred from a terrible battle, only to find that life at Biltmore Estate has changed in unimaginable ways. Old friends do unthinkable things, and enemies seem all around.

A mysterious threat moves toward Biltmore, a force without a name, bringing with it violent storms and flooding that stands to uproot everything in its path. Serafina must uncover the truth about what has happened to her and find a way to harness her strange new powers before it's too late.

With only days to achieve the impossible, Serafina fights to reclaim herself as the Guardian of Biltmore, friend of Braeden, daughter of her Pa, and heroine of the Blue Ridge Mountains and all the folk and creatures that call it home.

In the epic third installment of Robert Beatty's best-selling series, Serafina takes her rightful place among literary champions as she battles fiercely to defend all she loves and become everything that she is meant to be.

Some accents are harder than others...

My daughter is deep into the Serafina books and we got this one to listen to on a family trip. I have read the preceding books and, although they are definitely YA, they are well done. The narration has been where we stumbled. The narrator does an excellent job with everything except Serafina's voice. What is meant to be an Appalachian accent comes out whiney and false. The narration of the story and other characters are all well done, just not the main voice. It's made it hard to listen all the way through, unfortunately.

Enjoyable story

This book is very well written and narrated. A little bit lengthy at the end, but I enjoyed listening to it with my 10 year old granddaughter. Scary at times!

Dragging

I’m struggling to get through this. Very slow and I feel like I’m listening to the second book over again. Both the British and southern accents are laughable. I’m disappointed bc the series started off so well.

Beatty's best

Story captured my interest immediately. Hard to put down. Positive self-esteem within the characters to influence the reader.

Simple, thoughtful, well done.

A simple story, yet thoughtful and often profound. I have listened to the first three books and the narration is superlative - Cassandra Campbell gives one of the best vocal performances I have ever heard.

All is right in the end

Exciting and scary. Personally, the reason I gave it 4 stars is because it was a bit to 'dark' for my liking. I am a romantic at heart, but this I can say, the end is warm, comforting and makes you long for the next book.

Serafina and the Splintered Heart

This was one of my absolute favorite books! I love being on the edge of my chair, but also being able to let out a tear or two! These books get better with each time you read or listen to it. I can’t get enough of these books! I love the mystery of the book and the romance that is in the book. I would suggest this book to anyone who loves reading, like my brother or someone who is not really a huge fan of reading, like myself.

Odd

Not a bad story but definitely odd. Having the lead character unable to do anything adds an interesting twist.
