Empathy is an extremely powerful ability. It allows one to feel what others are feeling, sympathize with them, and eventually influence their emotions to help them overcome any negative feelings. This sensitivity to emotions can sometimes reflect negatively on empaths - they are often victims of dark psychology techniques. Luckily, there’s a way that allows empaths to protect their mind against emotional predators, and achieve superior control over their empathic powers – Stoicism!

We actually feel others' emotions, energy, and physical symptoms in our own bodies, without the usual defenses that most people have." The Empath's Survival Guide is an invaluable resource for empaths who want to develop coping skills in a high-stimulus world while embracing their gifts of intuition, compassion, creativity, and spiritual connection.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Story
Empathy is something we all feel at one time or another in our lives. It is a necessary human experience and the ability to have a compassionate sense of feeling for another person. You may not have considered yourself an empath before, because our culture hasn't considered it for a long time. It's a valid diagnosis for a person and empaths often end up being accused of being overly sensitive, sometimes sick or depressed, anti-social, and reclusive. If you think that you may be an empath and want to find out how to help you embrace your gift, then don't look any further.

Story
Empaths have a high level of sensitivity that makes them susceptible to external energies and feelings. For example, when the average person sees someone in pain or suffering, simply feel sympathy for them and may even help if he’s in a position to; however, he remains capable of being able to separate that person’s pain from itself. Otherwise, for an empath, its emotions will be influenced to a large extent by the type of people around them and the type of environment in which they find themselves.

Good Listen!
Excellent book. Great concept, helpful for anyone, especially if you tend to give too much - if you find others taking advantage of you or if you or someone you care about has a tendency towards codependency. So important to have clear boundaries that you can set in a loving way, without feeling guilty.

should be required reading
This booklet has excellent information for empaths, HSPs and introverts (different traits but often overlappimg). That reminds me, one missing side of this conversation that would have been eye-opening would be if the author demonstrated some knowledge about personality type. Or, she may have it and decided to focus on this topic from a more specific perspective. But as an infj this really resonated. While some of this information isn't new to me, it's the right thing at right time when I needed to hear it, from a sympathetic and insightful author. So thank you.

Good suggestions!
Would you consider the audio edition of Setting Boundaries to be better than the print version?
This has helped me to realize that I was allowing other people to get too close and infringe up on my boundaries, and it also helped me learn that there are certain others who are purposely infringing upon those boundaries. It gave me the confidence to stand up for myself and deal with the problems head on instead of flailing around like a fish when it comes to putting my foot down. It is especially hard when the person you have to stand up to is one of your parents. Thanks to this book, I have done what I need to do and the ball is in their court now.

An empath should learn self-healing first before healing others and stop being an emotional sponge. An empath should cut connections from all negative thought-forms and be in the presence of like-minded, uplifting, positive people. Also, learn to meditate and control your mind and body. Story
Have you ever been with your partner and felt a sense of dread even in the most innocent of situations? Why do you feel crushed, confused, or tired? Toxic love is a desire for the continuous pleasure of intense highs delivered by an unreliable partner. In its grip, the rest of the world fades in importance — job, schoolwork, children, friends. If you have a narcissist in your life, you are likely feeling blindsided by the abuse you may suffer, doubting yourself and your own sanity at times due to the narcissist’s charisma and manipulation.

An empath should learn self-healing first before healing others and stop being an emotional sponge. An empath should cut connections from all negative thought-forms and be in the presence of like-minded, uplifting, positive people. Also, learn to meditate and control your mind and body. Another suggestive method is a sea-salt bath and use of protective stones.
