Smashing first book for this new series!
What a wild ride. I've read a number of great books this year, but I think my favorite of the year goes to this title. White delivers a thrilling story, combining western and horror. White not only gives us a solid and engaging story, but depth of character as well. I frequently found myself wanting to know more about a character's past, or waiting eagerly to find out what they were going to do next, and White delivered each time. The characters were as engaging as the plot. They had their own nuances, voices, and thought processes. White's pacing is excellent, to boot! He masterfully balances action with tension and suspense, just as he balances reveals with some excellent twists. From beginning to end, there's not a dull point in the book.
Micah Mason's reading complemented the story perfectly. He gives each character their own feel and style, and it's easy to follow who is doing or saying what. Mason's pacing matches the book's: he picks up his own narrative pace during the action scenes, he draws out the suspense in the tense scenes, and he gives characters time to breathe during the easier scenes. Mason sounds like he was straight out of this book's setting.
The second book in this series recently came out in print, and I'm going to buy it today. I may hold off on reading it until the audio book hits the shelves, though. Mason's just that good of a narrator.

Was looking for a werwolf book and found a great o
This is the best werewolf novel I have ever listened too. I have read other werewolf storeies in the past that were ok, but this one was awesome. This is also the first Audible book I have listed to in an entire setting. I could not stop listening. All of the characters and personable and fleashed out. You actually care about some of them and want to know more about them. After I was halfway through this I bought the second Kit Barker novel immediately. The performance of Micah Mason is fantastic, and he really sucks you into the story. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Wow!
Great story! The author, J. R. White did a remarkable job at verbally illustrating the characters and the story. I also thought the narration to be excellent and easy to follow.
I was in no way a fan of Westerns before but this book may have changed that. I am looking forward to Kit Barker's next adventure.

A nice surprise.
What a great suprise this book turned out to be. What initially caught my interest was the western-horror format, but the characters and detail are what kept me glued to the tale. Mr. White has written a great story here, and it left me wanting more. I was also really suprised by the narrator. I've never listened to his work before, but he's great! All in all, I was delighted with this. Totally worth my credit.

I like western horror
Since I was 10 and saw Billy the Kid vs. Dracula. I've been a sucker for western horror. I enjoyed this book. It had a good story, was well written and had a good narration. Many books in this genre don't. I look forward to the next book in the series and feel like this author will be successful, horror or not.

More pros than cons
So I do enjoy a western every now and then. Lonesome Dove is one of my all time fav books. This however, is no Lonesome Dove. I did enjoy it though. The narration was absolutely top notch. I did find this book to be frustratingly cliche in a lot of ways and completely predictable but I’m prone to forgive this because I liked the characters and the writing was well done. I recommend it for a fun read about cowboys and werewolves.
