Publisher's Summary

When the invitation to the Gloaming arrives, Lexi can’t believe that she, a half-vampire, has been invited to enter the dark fae realm.

Her first trip to a Shadow Realm isn’t one she’ll soon forget once she meets Cole, a dark fae prince.

Fresh from the war that ravaged the mortal realm and devastated his family, Cole is struggling to piece his life back together when he encounters Lexi. He has always identified more with his dark fae side, but when her presence awakens the lycan part of him, Cole is unable to resist his attraction to her.

When the hostile tension between the different immortals erupts, Lexi flees the Gloaming for the mortal realm. Once home, she’s certain she’ll never see Cole again. She’s proven wrong when tragedy strikes. Lexi is unable to turn Cole away...even if helping him puts her in danger.

Can their growing love survive the cruelty of the Shadow Realms, or will they be the next to fall?

Enter the Shadow Realms. A world where vampires feast, lycans love deeply, dark fae seduce, witches cast their spells, dragons rule the skies...and treachery lurks around every corner.

Due to sexual content, violence, and language, this book is recommended for listeners 18 years of age and older.

Great book

Great emotional narration, adorable blooming romance and strong plot. This writer never disappoints. Also the plot is original and like all her books there's just a hint of humor. Love it.

A solid 4

First and foremost, my bar for Fae stories and high fantasy is incredibly high, and I'm often left disappointed, so a 4 is a pretty decent rating. If I had rated it midway through the book, it probably would have been 2 or 3 but a lot important details that tie the story together and bring more dimension to the characters comes towards the end. I will be listening to the next story when it was released because I want to know what happens next.

The narrator did a great job, but the somewhat strange POV volley that happens through the story really warrants a male narrator as well so that you can keep track of whose eyes you're seeing the story through from moment to moment.

Decent, however…

Honestly the writing wasn’t great, plot was almost nonexistent, I feel like only three events occurred in the whole book. Terrible ending, left so much unresolved. Am I gonna read the next one? Probably.

Biggest problem is the author used the same words repeatedly. “However” was overused. Whole phrases were repeated in follow up paragraphs, timelines were off. Man, the more I type the more I realize how aggravating this was.

unbelievable

After listening to most of BKD series of books I thought I'd give this series a go. & OMG I'm so so glad I did!! i started it around lunch time & I ended up just finishing the audiobook 9 straight hours later. I have never listened to an audiobook that long in one day but I literally could NOT take my earbuds out! i even rejected calls, it is THAT good!!! it's absolutely phenomenal. The characters are so interesting as is the unique unraveling of this brilliantly structured story line!!!!. i can't wait to start book #2 of The Shadow Realm series & even tho it's way past my bedtime I'm about to Start book #2 this instant!!!! ...in most of BKD books it mentions some supernaturals being "blood thirsty, " well I'm most definitely "shadow realm, " thirsty!! Well done BKD on another brilliant novel! As for the Narrator, Meg Price- what an excellent job she did! her acting really made the whole listen more enjoyable by enabling it to REALLY come alive in my minds eye.... ⭐️5 stars all the way around ...hands down!!! ✌🏼 ❤️ 😍 💖 🌟 🤩 ⭐️ 🌠 💫

Really good!

Didn't think I was going to like this one in the beginning, but I always try to give every book 2 hours. Ended up loving the book. I loved the world building and character building. I loved the slow burn romance between the two mc's. Loved the narrator. Can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Great first book exciting

This is a new author for me and I was enthralled with this book. This author can write suspense with out any problems. I have over 2800 books in my cloud and glad to have this series too.

Lots of internal dialog, repetition, cliff hanger

The high reviews for this book are unfounded. The book is about 50% internal dialog and 25% restatement of subjects/plot lines/internal angst that were previously conveyed. Some words are used over and over - Persian blue, glower, and scowl - are among the author's favorites. The book ends on a major cliffhanger with none of the conflicts, which are contrived or "true," resolved. For now, skip this book. Narration is fine.

Meg Price is a wonderful narrator and she bought the words to life!
