Publisher's Summary

You don't choose the academy. The academy chooses you.

"This book is Harry Potter meets the Hunger Games in a bold twist on a classic magical young adult adventure." (Jaymin Eve, best-selling author of Supernatural Academy

I’ve made it through the Culling Trials, the test that proved my mettle against every possible challenge.

I assumed that meant things would settle down and I’d start truly learning. No more danger. No more death threats. No more wondering who was out to get me. Apparently, that was not to be.

I am what this supernatural world calls a Chameleon - a rarity even amongst all these monsters. And rare things are coveted and feared by the most powerful of all - The House Of Wonder. It’s a good thing I have my crew at my back, because this Academy?

It’s about to get seriously ugly.

Which means this farm girl is ready to play by only one set of rules. Her own.

The Shadowspell Academy books, a six-book series, all end on a cliff-hanger with the exception of book three and book six.

I should have waited

I knew I would hate myself for listening to this and having to wait for the next release. Just like the prior 3 books this is packed with action, humor and danger. I find the narrator to be my favorite of all the audiobooks I've ever listened to. Now I have to wait because I apparently have no self control and binged the whole thing in a day.

This girl needs an editor!

I'm giving this a 3 over all because there was many things involving the characters that differed from the first 3 books. Maybe because I just re-listened to the Culling Trials and the details were fresh in my mind but there were a number of discrepancies. The main one being Ethan's last name went from being Helix to Helio. The descriptions of the characters changed like, Wally had brown hair in the culling trials, it said it was red in this book, Colt's eyes went from green to blue, and Mara suddenly got a weird accent. I realize she co-wrote the first 3 books but I feel someone should have really brought some of these differences to her attention.
The story itself was ok. I feel like ot drug on and nothing really got answered. The narrorator was good.

Wild is back!

Story moves fast! A bit of romantic confusion to keep you guessing. You will want to have read the first set of the series to catch the nuances of the characters. For those in the know we get our crew back and the story takes an unexpected turn. Leaves you with quite a hook at the end! Great for anyone who likes magic and adventure. Safe for preteen readers some cussing but no real adult content.

Holy cats, this series rocks!

I love Wild and her gang! We pick up right after the Trials and there’s no rest for the weary. Wild and her gang are back in action. Now that we know what she is, it’s time to find out who’s after her. The gang really comes together in this one. Hvam does a great job embracing all the characters. I’m excited that the series continues and I’m looking forward to the next book!

Great series, but ....

Great story and narration. I do recommend it but it should have been two or three books instead of six. $$$$

good story but..

I'm enjoying this story, however, if these books were not on sale, I would not have purchased. these books end very abruptly. it's like they just chose spots to stop the story so they could sell more titles. it's a shame really bc the story is pretty good. I will keep listening to the series bc I bought all of them when they were on sale for way below the cost of a credit.

Excellent start to a new series

Shannon Mayer has crafted an excellent start to a new series. The characters are well thought out and developed.
Khristine Hvam gave a stellar performance as she brought it all to life. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

Fast paced

Wild and her crew are an interesting bunch of characters. This book was fast paced and hard to put down. Christine Hvam is a great narrator. She is so fun to listen to. I can't wait to listen to the next book.

Good story

I like it but an over an amount of description in some of the books. I could literally skip over sections and still keep up with the story and not miss anything.

Nail biting

This story combines intrigue, adventure, magic with a dash of magic. The characters are loveable, even the dodgy ones and the plot keeps you guessing.

Helios??

Ok so to begin with the story is worth five stars!!

The plot and action starts to finally pick up a little more, although it's the last five or so chapters that really start going.

My issue isn't with the book, per se, but actually due to the name change from books one, two and three!!

I'm hoping that lots of others have picked this up, although not those that it should have done.

The reason for the four stars is that book four has deemed it fit to change the surname of "the most prominent family," it seems that the Helix family decided to change their surname to Helios!!

Understand now why my title is "Helios??"

I understand that some times errors are made with lesser characters or places, but this is pretty huge!!

It should have been noticed by any of the following.

Author
Editor
Proof reader
Beta or ARC group

And many of others whose job is solely to ensure these mistakes are rectified, prior to the release of these books.

Again Khristine Hvam is the one who manages to bring those characters to life and she does a great job again!!

I'm really getting into her Texan drawl....that's the right word right?? Sincere apologies if that offends!!....

But again the audio has got that name change in there too. So that is why the story gets four stars!!

It's also why I love being in the Beta/ARC team for authors, as I've always been able to pick up on such things!!

I'd still recommend both book and audio, as the rest of the book/audio are excellent. Just don't grind your teeth each time you read/hear Helios 🤦🤦🙈🙈

The Best & Scariest Academy Is Back!!😍😱💥🎉

The Best & Scariest Academy Is Back!!😍😱💥🎉
Wild & Her Crew Are About To Start Learning.🙏🙈
Shadowspell Academy: Year of the Chameleon
Unabridged Audiobook 🎧
By: Shannon Mayer
Narrated by: Khristine Hvam
Length: 6 hrs and 6 mins

I've been waiting slightly desperately for this series to continue on.😍 I was so excited to listen to the newest book & what was happening to Wild & Her Crew of friends. I wasn't disappointed. The story picks up the day after graduating the Culling Trials & on the journey to their selected Houses. Wild, of course, is butting proverbial heads with other 'Shades' on her bus.😂 A message goes to the driver to divert to the House Of Wonder. Chaos & mayhem has broken out across the board, did they say explosions???😱💥

This is really well plotted with a fabulous world build. I felt like some more layers were peeled back from certain characters, which was brilliant!👍 There's heart ache & heart break, assassins & serial killers and back stabbing & double crossing.💔😳 We also see some blasts from the past.🙏👻 I did miss some of the hilarious snark from the previous books but it certainly isn't by enough to stop me reading the books because the storyline & characters are still extremely strong.🌟 I'm really looking forward to book #5.🎉
