Story
Alexis Carter is a long way from home, and she doesn't quite understand how she got here. All she knows is that she died once, and now she's alive. She's woken into a nightmare, trapped on a dark ship full of terrifying aliens. With their silver skin and fire-colored eyes, they look a lot like the monsters that once attacked her on Earth. One Kordolian in particular stands out.... He's huge, he doesn't talk much, and his job is to guard her. From what, exactly? The voices inside her head?

Story
Some scary-looking aliens have just boarded Fortuna Tau, our little asteroid mining station. Kordolians, by the looks of things. What the hell do they want with this floating rust bucket? What are they even doing here? Come to think of it, I've never seen a Kordolian up close before. They're huge and intimidating, with strange silver skin and pointed ears. They have freaky nano-armor, and they're packing a serious arsenal. We humans stand no chance against them.

Story
The Arrisans conquered Earth in a day. They smashed into our helpless planet like a wrecking ball, and overnight, everything changed. That’s what our history books say. The truth is, I’ve never seen an Arrisan face-to-face. But when my lone medical ship is attacked by ruthless pirates, the nightmare that hunts them down is no hero. Cloaked in assassin’s gray, metal scythes fused to his wrist-bones, he is the grim reaper of the conquerors. The Arrisan elite special forces. A blade.

In the far reaches of space, you have to keep your guard up to survive. But this gorgeous alien warrior is breaking down my defenses. Three years ago, alien raiders abducted me from Earth. I escaped to a remote trading planet, where I’ve scraped by and kept my identity as a human hidden...until one day, I get caught stealing from a mysterious warrior named Rok. Aliens are dangerous and untrustworthy. Or at least, that’s what I’ve always thought. But Rok is different. Despite being furious that I took something from him, he doesn’t hurt me.

I’ve been swept off my feet before, and I’ve got the bruises to show just how badly that ended. I’m not about to fall at the feet of the next man - or alien - to cross my path. Especially not when he steals me away from home and wants to use me as his broodmare. Kloran is intense and sometimes scary. A prince of his people with a duty so deeply ingrained it’s hard to see where it ends and he begins. It was good not great
warning spoiler alert it seemed to me like the story was a bit rushed not a lot of details or interaction with the heroine and the hero just sort of like a rushed love kind of thing. The action is always good and so is the sex scenes, however some parts of the story were left kind of like a cliffhanger not really developed that's what made not so great.

Audio does NOT add to story
Kordolian First Division warrior Enki Zakanin has been acting as host to a Tharian consciousness in it’s second stage of evolution; and he’s been battling it the whole time. He just wants to be left alone, but finds himself committing to rescuing the human who sends out a rescue signal. The human woman, Layla dela Cruz, who has now been picked up by a Kordolian cruiser supporting the old regime.
Enki has never spoken to any human before. Why now? Why Layla? Why does he need to stage a rescue?
Re Harding’s narration: It’s pronounced Zak-a-nin NOT Za-kane-ian; the word is viGilance NOT viLigance (eternal vigilance was hard wired into their highly modified bodies).

liked it, good narrator
i liked JF Harding's narration, he did a pretty good job on the female voices in my opinion also. the story was interesting, after reading other reviewers I learned that this came after another series but decided to do these first anyways after looking into the other ones and not liking the sample of the female narrators voice. there is a box set of the first four so I might try them later. these do reference the other characters from earlier series but they recap a bit around them so you never get that feeling like your missing a huge chunk of the story. enjoyed this book more then the first, explored the individual characters in more emotional depth. had allot of action going on and inner struggles. I liked that the female didn't go back and forth or ponder their connection she just went with it and it flowed well. can be kinda repetitive sometimes when both leads inner dialog goes over something that already happened. I like that each story can be a standalone but with a general overall arch that connects them however it's not a main plot line where you have to get another one to find out what's next if you don't want to. I recommend giving them a listen.

Meh…
This book had a lot of things in I liked, but the execution was subpar. I just finished listening to it and I barely remember it. I don’t think I am going to continue with the rest of the series. The story felt like it went through the steps but needed more storyline to make the plot intriguing. The rescue took up half the book, so you don’t even get the romance connection since they don’t even see each other much in the books. The whole part with the hero having an alien in him wasn’t fleshed out enough, the movie Venom does a better job at having another being in your body and the struggle it takes. Narration was good.

Great audio of a good story!
Is Anna Carven's stories come to life in the audibles read by JF Harding. The narrator is fantastic in depicting both male and female personas as well as different characters.
I read the whole series 1st for the dark star mercenaries which I think are even better than the dark star planet series. The author's female characters are not feeble minded women nor does she use fill her stories with inane conversation.
For the audios, J F Harding reads all the Darkstar mercenary books and I wish he has also read the Dark Star Planet series!

This series is amazing!
From the time I found Anna Carven’s Dark Planet Warriors with the spin off Dark Star Mercenaries I was hooked! The storytelling is rich and engaging and I felt like I stepped right into the universe from the first chapter of the first book! J.F. Harding is an amazing narrator and he adds a while new level of sexiness and intensity to the books. Read the Dark Planet series first and you won’t be disappointed!!

almost the same as previous book but different
I thought to start off with we were going to have the same storyline as Torin and Persephone but there was only a short part of the book with that type of drama and the rest took on A personality of it's own.
once again we see recent characters from other books pop in and this time it was Abby.
I really enjoyed the way Ms carven found the way to change up the story and add a bit more difficulty into the mix in regards to the hero.
heroine was a very understanding woman but we were reminded of it time after time..in different ways of course that she'd been through the worst and the attractions she felt couldn't be denied. almost a Stockholm Syndrome example but not really.
J F Harding did an ok job with this book too. when he was talking of previous heroines in the different series he did make different pronunciations and that kind of threw me a little but I had experienced it once before so I kind of expected it. I see there's lots more of Ms carvens book out there but they haven't been converted into audible yet so I'll just have to wait😔😔😔 but I do have one more to go...

Really Good
The second instalment in the Darkstar Mercenaries is all about Enki Zakanin and Layla dela Cruz and it all starts with a distress call from Layla who is stuck in a pod after the ship she was on is destroyed and from there the action begins albeit reluctantly by Enki who just wants to alone to deal with the literal demon inside his head but, he has given his word that he would come and rescue this human stuck in the ninth sector of all places and just to complicate things there are other Kordolians in this sector and they get to Leyla first and the action is fast paced and plain surprising at times from there. i highly recommend this audio book and the series as a whole.
