Story
As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill our leader, I’m labelled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt. When I can't take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don't like losing their punching bag. Torin, the leader’s son, drags me back before my first shift...a shift that will reveal my true mate. I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

Everything I know is a lie. I'm an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role. Me? I'll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can't make anything grow. But starvation brews rebellion. When the king strikes, I'm captured by Lord Irrik. The veil I've worn from birth carries with it a terrible loneliness, a suppression I cannot imagine ever being free of. My mother will always hate me. Her court will always shun me. When the peace delegation arrives from the savage world of Glacium, my life is shoved wildly out of control by the handsome Prince Kedrick, who, for unfathomable reasons, shows me kindness. All I wanted was to find answers to who I was. No one knew who had abandoned the gray-eyed baby with fiery red hair and a cry loud enough to make a man's nuts retract. I moved to Arbor Falls to find myself. Little did I know I'd be thrown into a world I didn't know existed. A world with wolves at each other's throats and enough pack politics and danger to make my head spin. Then there's the fact that I have more than one mate. Not all of them accept me because there's one gigantic problem: I'm not what they expected.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
When Mum died, I inherited a lot more than a pack of lies.
I landed a $410,000 debt.
Discovered her previous surname.
And her real place of birth.
Desperate to uncover the truth, I drive to a tiny dot on the map called Deception Valley.
Coincidental name? Nope.
There, I find her secret family - because she had one of those, too.
How many lies are we at? Honestly, I’ve lost count, but local gossip captures my attention. Apparently, Mum’s other family play laser tag every Wednesday. Not even joking. Laser tag.
What the hell is this place?
In hindsight, the massive guy with honey irises was my first major clue. Unusual eyes for a human, right?
Perfect eyes for a werewolf.
But sexy supernaturals, thongs, and mounting financial strain aside, Mum’s past is buried somewhere in this valley, and I need to dig up the truth or find a way to live with her lies.
What do you do when neither option will leave you unscathed?
If you can’t get enough of books by Ilona Andrews, K.F. Breene, Patricia Briggs, or anything paranormal romance, then step inside The Dens and get ready to play for your life.
This book contains sexual scenes, language, and violence.

I absolutely love this story!
This story has got to be one of my favorite shifter novels. Shifter Wars is the 1st installment of a trilogy and while great on its own, the trilogy just keeps getting better. I physically read all 3 books and when I saw them on audible I snapped them up again. The whole take on shifter culture and the "claiming" aspect are very different and I love it. This is not what I'd ever call an 'insta' love book, not is it an enemies to lovers. There is real story telling going on here. It's an action packed, strategy laden, fueding families, forbidden romance/fated mates kind of story. I can't say enough good about it. The narrator does a good job overall and I can't wait to listen to the next. Try it. You'll like it!

Lacking
I found the premise of the book to be intriguing but the intrigue ended there unfortunately. I wasn't even able to finish the book because I was so bored with it. Maybe it's that I've grown use to my female characters being stronger in a more outspoken way...or that I prefer them to come to their own conclusions rather than go purely based off someone else's description of facts. Overall the main female lead's lack of, what to me would be common sense, just rubs the wrong nerves.
There is also other little things that slightly tripped me up and took me out of the story. Like how it's apparently set in the US but the use of the term petrol had me questioning that. And the use of red headed, fair skinned people to represent what sounds like a Native American family although plausible just doesn't fit well with the story. It stands out as forced and inauthentic.
All in all, I've been left wanting. If you're looking for a good shifter series with excellent character development and world building, go look up Suzanne Wright. She'll have you rooting for the characters and any slip ups of a Brit writing an American are so minor, you won't even notice until you re-read.

Frustrating.
I didn’t get very far with this book. From the beginning Andy wasn’t a very likable or relatable character. I was very disappointed with her first arriving at the manor. Why didn’t she correct people about her name? Why did she enter the forest at night? It just wasn’t for me.

I'm big mad
What did I just read?! I'm not sure if this was a romantic comedy or a horror story. Orphan girl finds lost family, gains a stalker(who I somehow like better than the main character), and joins the family war! It was a tough pill to swallow to have the main character quickly become a bigot. I wanted Andie to be taught a lesson(i.e. bad things to happen to her) so she'd actually learn and grow but instead she was improbably perfect at everything. I was rolling my eyes by the end. A strategic prodigy, a professional saxophone player that never practices, super attractive, need I say more? Everything was beyond frustrating by the end, but I still want to know what happens so I might go on to book 2 once I've calmed down. The reader is probably the only thing that got me through this upsetting story, but she also used the wrong voice for the wrong character quite a few times. Does anyone even do a listen though before publishing these? Rant over.

Difficult to finish.
I really got tired of the way Andi treated the wolf pack, especially her love interest and their boss. She loved playing her sax at The Den buy seemed to hate them well, just because her uncle and clan, of sorts told her to. Didn't really like it and I'm not interested in reading the 2nd book.

I am.seriously torn with this book!
The girl is such a bitch and plays with things she knows nothing fully about, she is playing very dangerous games and says things as if she can do no wrong and doesn't want certain things when she acts a totally different way. She is super deceitful so I just don't care for her much. But at the same time she doesn't fully "get it" and doesn't understand the magnitude of what's really going on because nobody has really fully and truly explained just how serious everything really is but she knows enough to not be the way she is and that is why her secrets and misleading converstaions and her actions are so damn screwed up and dangerous plus she just jumps right into shit without thinking about anything first. The story is good but it's 50 shades of fucked up. But Yes i have to listen to the second book.

this was a fantastic story, with characters that you really engaged with. I have downloaded quite a few of this genre over the last 18 months, and this was by far one of the best. only one little niggle and tgat is the narrator did sometimes use the female inflection for the male character, but did a great job

A lot like Blood Trials
This book is very similar to Blood Trials: Two factions resolving a stupid dispute by playing a game that has lasted centuries.
There is intrigue and a few funny moments, but the majority of the book is a repeat of Blood Trials. I understand the author had to come up with a stressor, so can overlook the nonsense rationale for the game. However, Andie is just not very likeable. She refers to the supernaturals, that have offered her a job, friendship, and nothing but kindness, as monsters. I cringed everytime she made that comment, and it was often!
The author wanted Andie to be smart, strong, witty and independent but she was just regurgitating book knowledge, lied for no apparent reason, treated her ex and the wolve pack like dirt, believed everything the tribe said and uprooted her life to live in a place her mom desperately wanted to protect her against. She lacked intelligence and compassion and was more stubborn than independent.
I finished the book, but I won’t be reading the rest of the series. There will be more lies, highschool-like shenanigans, bullying and betrayal and a leading man that eats up the girl’s bs. So, even though I would like to know what happened to Ragna and Dropkick, I don’t have the time and money to spend on a let-down.

Loved it. Very easy to listen too. Good narrative and easy to keep track of the characters.

Disappointing
Thought this book looked promising but I didn't get far into it the story seemed okay but the main character is to much can't take responsibility for own actions and tries to blame other people for her mothers actions 🙄 then thinks the very little information she has is right says she is going to keep her distance then jumps right in
