Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

No one other than Warren Zanes, rocker and writer and friend, could author a book about Tom Petty that is as honest and evocative of Petty's music and the remarkable rock and roll history he and his band helped to write. Born in Gainesville, Florida, with more than a little hillbilly in his blood, Tom Petty was a Southern shit kicker, a kid without a whole lot of promise. Rock and roll made it otherwise.

Mary Gauthier was 12 years old when she was given her Aunt Jenny’s old guitar and taught herself to play with a Mel Bay basic guitar workbook. Music offered her a window to a world where others felt the way she did. Songs became lifelines to her, and she longed to write her own, one day. Then, for a decade, while struggling with addiction, Gauthier put her dream away and her call to songwriting faded. It wasn’t until she got sober and went to an open mic with a friend did she realize that she not only still wanted to write songs, she needed to.

Publisher's Summary
There is a light and there is a darkness. There is, also, a space in between. Homer Antumbra inhabited this no-man’s-land. In his flickering flame of a life, he shined the light and lived with the darkness. His life and work changed the craft of songwriting, both showing what a song could be, and hinting at where it could go. His work redefined a genre before shattering any attempts at categorization. Shining the Light is the first in-depth look into the man, the myth, the music of Homer Antumbra, ensuring that the light still shines.

Just Amazing
A.S. Coomer is a voice that needa to be heard through your eyes or ears. As a music lover this story delivered. I want so badly to go out and find all of Homer Antumbra's records, but he doesn't exist. So story was special to me because it takes place largely in the state and city I live in. Growing up and driving to shows seeing local bands perform and seeing regional bands perform was a high point in life. What A.S. Coomer did was take my city and landmarks there in and made this wonderful story that took me back. This story is captivating, heartwarming, and heart breaking. It's a story you really need to experience. Sean Duregger is that voice you need and went in your ears to tell you the tale of Homer. Sean gets better and better with each audio book he narrates. Looking forward to more from both. I've read A.S. Coomer's other books and this by far is my favorite. Do yourself a favor and get this book.

A gem of a book
The best surprises are the pleasant ones. Frankly, I didn’t expect much of this book.
A fictional biography of a fictional musician? The premise made me scratch my head.
I only gave this book a chance because I’m a big fan of narrator Sean Duregger. I’m so glad I did!
Shining the Light is clearly one of the best books I enjoyed this year.
It drew me in from the first minute and didn’t let go till the last.
Shining the Light is a unique story with very believable characters. Both prose and poetry in the book are very well written. At times it seemed so real that I had to remind myself it’s fiction and not a memoir.
But what makes this book a highlight is the narration!
With the wrong narrator this book easily could have turned into a disaster but Sean turns it into a masterpiece.
Sometimes I thought I’m listening to a documentary with several people being interviewed.
He also brings in so much emotion, so much soul.
Incredible job!
I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone who loves a good story and a brilliant narration.

A Musician’s Life
This was an interesting story of a fictional musician’s life of Homer Antumbra but could be non-fictional. He has not had the greatest life and sad at times and uses his lyrics to translate what he is feeling of good times and bad times. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

This was so realistic I was googling to find this
Homer Antombra like mini musicians lives life like he doesn’t have the right answers to life‘s questions, but right songs as it is inside is further reaching than any normal man. He is going through drug addiction alcoholism women ET see and has fought many battles. I think the thing that makes him great is he continues to fight or as long that is necessary. I totally enjoyed this book and absolutely thought Homer for the bigger portion of the book was a real musician. I also think the book wouldn’t have been as good edit been narrated by someone else The guy narrating made a distinction that made it very clear if he was the reporter the musician or someone else. I really enjoyed this book it was such an original plot when it comes to literary fiction and it’s a book I highly recommend!
