Publisher's Summary

A Sunday Times best seller.

The 13th adrenaline-filled Dirk Pitt classic from multi-million-copy king of the adventure novel, Clive Cussler.

A hundred and forty years after a British ship wrecks on the way to an Australian penal colony and the survivors discover diamonds on the tropical island where they wash up, Maeve Fletcher, one of their descendants, is stranded on an island in Antarctica with a party of passengers after their cruise ship seemingly abandons them.

Dirk Pitt, on an expedition to find the source of a deadly plague that is killing dolphins and seals in the Weddell Sea, finds Maeve and the passengers and rescues them from death. When Pitt later uncovers the cause of the plague, he discovers that Maeve's father, Arthur Dorsett, and her two sisters are responsible because of their diamond-mining technology. A deadly race develops to stop Dorsett from continuing his murderous mining operations and to head off a disaster that will kill millions. Pitt's struggle to foil Dorsett's ruthless plan to destroy the market for diamonds and thus gain a monopoly of his own takes him from harrowing adventures off the west coast of Canada to being cast adrift in the Tasman Sea.

Never a dull moment!

I absolutely love this book! This was my 1st audible but by Clive Cussler and I must say I was not disappointed. The narrator was on point with his voice inflections for every character, they were perfect in my opinion. I highly recommend this book to any in all audible listeners.

absolutely the best book Clive Cussler written

a wonderful adventure with our having to listen to overly gory details. nice to be able to skip the gay quota and vulgar extremes thank you mr. Cussler the gift of a good book.

Best Yet

This was a really good story. The humor was there, but this ordeal was tense and like film-noir, it had a little regret in it as well.

What can I say... great.

It like most of Clive Cussler books, of course Clive makes a Stan Lee type appearance.

same old emotions another great story.

A surprising story

I've been reading the Dirk Pitt series in order, from the beginning, so I am a fair bit behind long time readers. This is by far, my favorite to date. We seem to be leaving behind the cringe worthy, macho-male vibes, where women are just object to observe and disregard. I do take into account when a book is written and don't hold it against the author when the story reflects the times. But it is nice to see the deeper development of the characters as they mature.
The action and villain are up to the Clive Cussler's best standards. The surprise is in the development of real feelings between Dirk and Maeve, and the bittersweet ending of the story. I have never gone into a Cussler story expecting any kind of emotional reaction, so I was really not prepared.

Action all the way!

The story starts in the 1800’s and then moves to modern day!
Dirk Pitt action man never lets the action fall and remarkably escapes each time, A little like Jack Reacher. Plenty of action which makes you want to keep listening. Scott Brick, the reader was excellent and he changed the characters voices which made the story come to life.
The story would make a great movie.

Predictable and uninspired

Classic Cussler book, slightly better than his usual. Lazy writing, unimaginative plot development. Can't believe his editor lets it through.

Worst Dirk Pitt yet.

Story was long winded and overly soppy. Also don't try to do an Australian accent if you can't do it properly. Made it extremely painful to listen too. Overall this was a very tedious book and I was glad once it finished.

Distracted by narration.

I usually like listening to Scott Brick and am disappointed when I encounter a Clive Cussler novel not read by him.
However, it was difficult following the story when he attempted an Aussie accent.

Needs work on the Australian accent

Being Australian, it was very difficult to listen to the over emphasised Ozzie accent, we don’t talk like that! Maybe in some outback far North Queensland backwater or Pauline Hanson.

Just like English and Australians will over emphasise the American accents which will grate on their nerves.

Otherwise a great book much enjoyed.

The most appauling embarrising, insulting Australian accent I have heard since the ancient chips Rafferty movies , just after sound was added to cinematic entertainment .

Don’t bother

Silly story, made even worse by the ridiculous attempt at an Australian accent. Had to turn it off
