The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Publisher's Summary
Five years rebuilding your life. Five words will destroy it again.
Mia Hamilton lived the perfect life with her husband, university teacher Zach, and their two-year-old daughter. But everything changed when Zach committed suicide on the same night one of his students vanished.
Five years later, just when Mia is beginning to heal, stranger Alison walks into her life, saying her husband didn't kill himself. Fragile, slight Alison leads Mia on a path into Zach's past, and Mia begins to think she never really knew her own husband.
As the secrets revealed get darker, Alison becomes harder to read, and Mia starts to wonder - why is Alison so keen to help? And then a piece of the puzzle appears in an impossible place, and Mia has to ask, is she losing her mind, or should she be afraid for her life?
An absolutely enthralling psychological thriller about obsession and buried secrets, with a brilliant twist. Fans of The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors and Gone Girl will be hooked.

Didn’t See it Coming!
I took a chance on this book as it was being compared to “Gone Girl” and the like, as they all seem to be lately. It hooked me from the beginning. Although for some reason, I cringed every time the daughters name, ‘Freya’ was mentioned, which was a lot. (I guess I just don’t care for that name or the way the narrator said it... ) Anyway, the story was told from three different characters’ perspectives and really kept my interest. I normally get bored with these type of books because I usually figure them out early on, but this was different. Although a bit improbable, and lacking oomph, the ending caught me somewhat by surprise. The most ‘Gone Girly’ of all the “Gone Girly” genre books I have read. A great value with the Kindle and Whisper-sync option on this one.

Twisted and Satisfying Beginning, Middle and End.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book just as I've enjoyed other books by this author. It kept me guessing throughout the read at a calm and enticing pace. Never guessed the ending which was a completely unexpected twist, but measured well with the storyline and left me with my imagination to ponder multiple additional chapters. I look forward to many more books from this author.

Keeps you guessing -quite literally, until the end
I've listened to all of Kathryn Croft's books (except one) and I like them because she gets right to the story so you're never just waiting for it to "kick-in". “Silent Lies” is about a widow, Mia, in her late 30's with a 7-year-old daughter whose husband supposedly killed himself 5 years ago. She is finally moving on, is in a relationship with a great guy who also loves her daughter and has her own counseling/therapy practice. But... a new patient, Alison, comes to her claiming to know the truth about what happened to her husband, Zach, the night he killed himself. The discrepancy is that one of Zach's students went missing that night, but her blood was found all over the crime scene where he killed himself and her body was never recovered. Alison is a very strange girl in her mid-20's and Mia doesn't know what to think about her as all the information she gave her was false. The story is told in two perspectives, Mia (present day) and the student that went missing that night, Josie, via flashbacks. The end was unexpected but not shocking, and it all happened in the last 30 min or less of the book. Therefore, we don't get any additional insight on the characters and their motives. One odd thing that was somewhat forced into the story was Josie's past. She was beyond brutally attacked at age 18 - her home life was awful and her mother should win Worst Mother of the Year award. The author really hammered her life into the story and soooo much more detail was provided about this aspect of her life and very little about Zach. I thought there was going to be an outcome that heavily resolved Josie's situation but it was never fully addressed. There was a twist I predicted that would’ve been stellar, but it was not even close to what actually occurred. If anything, the story was a cliffhanger and the next book will be a follow-up to this one. This is definitely a stand-alone book, but in consideration of how much information was divulged about Josie's horrible life, it was not satisfying at the end. But that is only for her part of the story, most the book ends satisfactorily. It would have been more satisfying if it was longer and not just packed in the last minutes of the book. Overall though, it was a good read, paced nicely and held my interest and on par with Kathryn Croft’s other books.

I’m still not sure what to think.
This was my first Kathryn Croft novel. I am not too sure what to think. This wasn’t a bad story by any means. The characters were okay. I feel sorry for them all. Some character(s) are downright nuts. Then ending was awful. I finished it and immediately looked for the next one in the series only to discover there wasn’t one. It was left wide open. I am American and have listened to several books with a Brittish narrator that took place in London and the surrounding areas however I always have to have an adjustment period to get into it and get used to the accent and dialogue. I will give this author another try. The narrators did a great job. In my opinion all books are worth a credit because they can be returned so easily with no questions asked, what do you have to lose? Just because I thought this book was So-So doesn’t mean that the next person won’t love it.

I’m hooked!
After listening to seemingly every book in the “girl on the train” genre, I was getting progressively more bored as the plots were becoming more predictable. Then, I stumbled on this book—for the first time in a while, I couldn’t stop listening! I’m now on my third book by the author in 3 weeks—I’m hooked. Love the author’s twists... I haven’t predicted one yet!

Started out well .....
I really got into this book at the start. However, the more it progressed, the more I felt I wanted it to move a bit faster.
The narration was ok, but I felt the characters were weak - especially Zac and Alison. The other two main ones - Mia and Josie - well.....!
Mia was totally unbelievable as the counsellor she was portrayed as, and Josie seemed to be completely inconsistent (one minute assertive, the next passive). Really annoying both of them! As for Will, well he was a complete wet blanket (rather like Zac) so perhaps that's the type Mia goes for!! As for the ending - it was a surprise but again unbelievable in all respects. Won't say any more as I don't want to give the game away. I clearly finished the book but wished I hadn't bothered!!

A Very Dreary Listen
This book promised far more than it delivered. The preview looked interesting but the actual book was tedious and I really had to stick with it to the end, which was disappointing. I find that this author uses far to much pointless dialogue which dilutes the plot, really this story could have been told in a couple of hours. I did not warm to any of the characters and found them to be totally unbelievable. The supposed twist at the end did not save the book and the motivation behind it essentially daft. I think I will avoid this author in future.

Questionable Conversations
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I found this book really, really irritating and tedious. The conversations between the characters are far fetched and unbelievable, as is the story line and background. I have read/listened to a few Kathryn Croft books but this one is the worst! I can't wait for it to be over so I can move on to something else.
Would you ever listen to anything by Kathryn Croft again?
If this had been the first book of Kathryn Croft's I'd read, I certainly wouldn't go for another!
What about Antonia Beamish and Rosie Jones ’s performance did you like?
Personally I think their performances were good and they worked with what they had

I love a good thriller and was really looking forward to this book, but it just rumbled on and on without really drawing me in. I found that the plot was too slow to build and listening to it became a bit of a chore rather than a treat. It was also quite transparent
What does Antonia Beamish and Rosie Jones bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Well narrated in my opinion
What character would you cut from Silent Lies?
None but the plot didn't pull me in at all

Kept me guessing
I had no idea where this was going until the end. However, some bits of the story made no sense, some ends left loose, which is why I gave it one less star. Still, great performances and a gripping tale.

Mostly dull.
The narrator for Mia was pretty monotone and unengaging often making it a hard listen. The story itself isn't that enthralling either.

Silent Lies
Fairly gripping from early on. Best near the end where the plot twists. Just wish the author had spent a little less time at the start of the story and a little more time rounding up thel ending, it came to quite an abrupt finish which made for an unbalanced feel. Having said that I did enjoy the story immensely.

Waste of time
I am not a fan. Weak, implausible, boring, pointless story.
If you’re into Days Of Our Lives read with breathless passion, you’ll enjoy; the narration detracted from an already disappointing story.
Already in its death throws, the plot twist at the end is just unfathomable.
9hours 39minites I’ll never get back.

Not a fan
Not a great story line, went on and on and the ‘twist’ wasn’t great at all. Thumbs down from me.

Great Suspense
This book have kept me on my toes since the beginning. I liked the way it bounced from two characters perspective but felt the ending rushed and gone too quickly.
