Publisher's Summary

Books four, five and six in the Skulduggery Pleasant series - known collectively as the Death Bringer Trilogy, Derek Landy's fantastically imaginative series about our favourite dead detective.

Dark Days

Skulduggery Pleasant is lost on the other side of a portal, with only some evil gods for company. Can he possibly survive? (Yes, all right, he’s already dead. But still.)

Mortal Coil

Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain are back - just in time to see their whole world get turned upside down....

Death Bringer

The Necromancers no longer need Valkyrie to be their Death Bringer, and that’s a good thing. There’s just one catch....

The story turns a lot darker

So I am sure that a lot of people will like this book. It has an amazing story line and Skulduggery is still pretty great. It just wasn't for me.
**** Spoilers****
In book five things turn a lot darker, people get killed, a lot of trauma happens. Valkyrie seems to be these golden child that everyone looks upto/ is in love with/ who is THE one with the most awesome powers, etc etc and it becomes annoying. People go through trauma like it is nothing. The humour seems to have gone from the books. It's just not a fun series anymore and I won't finish it.
However if this is my opinion, but I like happy endings with loose ends all tied up. So if the above is your thing - then enjoy!

book 4

in book 4, chapter 6 there is a conversation between springheel Jack and scapegrace, where springheel Jacks voice is used to speaking scapegraces sentences and vice versa, probably needs to be fixed, will edit when finished all of the books

Audio book's chapters are weird

I very much enjoy the story and narrating, but I find it really irritating how the chapter list thing in Audible works in this case. The previous Audio Collection (books 1-3) was normal and the chapters listed in the app started and ended at the same time as they did in the original book. However, in this audio book the chapter-clips are just random lenghts and in no way align with the named and numbered chapters in the book. The chapter dividing doesn't make any sense. Sometimes chapters change in the middle of a conversation! I like to set the sleep timer to pause when the chapter ends, and storywise it kinda just doesn't work nicely now.

Fab.

Another 3 great stories in this continuing series, shame about the different narrators doing the voices though as it spoilt the continuity but individually each narrator does a good job.

started well , ending was less enticing to carry o

i dont want to add spoilers, so i won't...

the first 4 books i enjoyed, but after that Val personality and snarkyness is mean and unlikeable, rather than witty sarcastic charm.

deathbringer... feels rushed to fit to much in, the suddenly super OP powers, the fight scenes far to drawn out, why 'he' couldnt defeat the 'deathbringer' buteasily held off the big bad a few minutes laters? how does thatake any sense?
whar happened to the reflection subplot? Caelan was ridiculous the whole time and the ending... im a little disappointed and not sure if i will continue with the next 3 books tbh

Change in narrator

The story is of course fantastic as always but the change in narrator (twice) is jarring and I’m left missing the original narrator who’s voices were much more distinct.

SP 4-6

Descent, although the narration confusion was off putting.
Sometimes the character’s voices and dialogues got mixed up, honest mistake, not professional though, plus it should have been easy to hear if the creator’s where actually listening to what they were reading.
Also book 6 goes a bit off rails, but like THATS gonna stop me continuing.

Great book, but gaps keep appearing

I love the series, and have had each physical copy as it releases since book one.
However, in the reading there are several gaps that will appear mid sentence, more so in (this trilogies) book 2 than book 1, which is generally at a climax, missing a lot of the detail and restarting at the resolution.
Having the physical copies to refer to makes it less difficult but still mildly annoying to find what is missed, but nearing the climax of the second you miss entire scenes.
Otherwise, great series, and great Audio Books.

Bring back Robert Degas

Book 4 is far too much fun with usual crowd of characters brought to life by the brilliant of Robert Degas :-)
Book 5 is mangled by the narrator, turning the characters in to cardboard cutouts.
Book 6 has yet another narrator mangling the mangled, the original cast of characters has replaced.

Why did the performance artist change!?

Very disappointing that they changed the performance artist for the 5th book !!
Was a jarring change that definitely affected the connection with the storyline.

More Pleasant adventures.

Another great series of adventures. All the narrators do a good job but I personally prefer the stories narrated by Robert Degas. I love how the characters are flawed so you can love them, hate them and identify with them all at the same time.

Skulduggery

Great story well told. Annoying that chapter headings in a compilation recording dont indicate actual chapters or start of the new book.

Confusing Chapters?

Firstly, I just want to say, this series is excellent and I cant recommend it enough.

However this particular audiobook is flawed, the chapters are messed up, audible says I'm on chapter 8 but the chapter I'm actually up to in the book is 15, whoever has set the lengths of the chapters needs review this book again.

There is also a small vocal slip up, but it's minor and doesn't bother me at all, if your curious, check out some other reviews!
