Story
Overwork is the new normal. Rest is something to do when the important things are done - but they are never done. Looking at different forms of rest, from sleep to vacation, Silicon Valley futurist and business consultant Alex Soojung-Kim Pang dispels the myth that the harder we work the better the outcome. He combines rigorous scientific research with a rich array of examples of writers, painters, and thinkers - from Darwin to Stephen King - to challenge our tendency to see work and relaxation as antithetical.

Story
We think we know what meditation is - especially in an era when "mindfulness" has improbably rocketed into the mainstream. Millions of people around the world have taken up a formal mindfulness meditation practice as part of their everyday lives. But there's no hard-and-fast rule that says you have to meditate in a certain way, in a particular place, or following a specific tradition. So what is meditation anyway? And why might it be worth trying? Or nurturing further if you already have practice?

Publisher's Summary
Proven solutions for a better night's sleep, from the "sleep guru" to elite athletes - rest for success in work, sports, and life
One-third of our lives - that's 3,000 hours a year - is spent trying to sleep. The time we spend in bed shapes our moods, motivation, alertness, decision-making skills, reaction time, creativity...in short, our ability to perform, whether at work, at home, or at play. But most of us have disturbed, restless nights, relying on over-stimulation from caffeine and sugar to drag us through the day.
The old eight-hour rule just doesn't work, and it's time for a new approach. Endorsed by leading professionals in sports and business, Sleep shares a new program to be your personal best.
Nick Littlehales is the leading sport sleep coach to some of the biggest names in the sporting world, including record-breaking cyclists for British Cycling and Team Sky, international soccer teams, NBA and NFL players, and Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Here, he shares his proven strategies for anyone to use. You'll learn how to map your unique sleep cycle, optimize your environment for recovery, and cope with the demands of this fast-paced, tech-driven world.

Rethinking Sleep
This book was very insightful in addressing how members of the 21st century view sleep. Littlehales (author) addresses the myth of the 8 hours and goes into depth as to how to get more out of sleep to be not only more productive but get more out of your recovery.
**Note** this is not a 'follow these rules/guidelines and have a magical outcome' . The author encourages the reader to pay attention to the numerous variables that may contribute or be a detriment to a quality nights' sleep.

Great short listen
The book itself delivers an eye-opening concept of implementing sleep cycles as the guide to achieve better sleep. I enjoyed the fact that the author delved into the concept of why sleep cycles matter and debunked the common misconception of "quality" sleep.
I gave it 4 stars because I wished the book went further into creating a sleeping pack. Recommendations on building a custom sleeping pack didn't mention too much on the Why's, but rather glossed over a basic construction of it.
Overall a great and powerful book if readers/listeners can implement the concept into their own lives. It has definitely helped me.

objective and thorough
the author will mention their own products and services but not push them on the reader. if you want to pay him to do things for you, he will be happy to accept your money, but empowers you to DIY solutions that work best for you. the biggest challenge a reader will encounter is incorporating 90 minute sleep cycles into their sleep routines. But it offers lots of practical advice for travelers, athletes, professionals, expecting parents, and others who struggle with sleep challenges. the book won't rant about insomnia, it is very solution oriented and the author is an advocate of the reader who wants the reader to not overspend on mattresses that over promise and under deliver
