Publisher's Summary

Brimming with humor and powerful emotion, prepare to fall in love with this modern-day nod to a classic rom com.

Matt Mazola never expected a popular relationship podcast to change his life, but that’s exactly what happens when he tunes in and hears a young woman share her heartfelt wish that her grieving father find love again. The widower she describes - Hugo James - captures Matt’s attention, and he sets off on a crash course to meet the other man.

But Matt soon discovers that he and Hugo are an unlikely match. Matt is a 20-something city guy who’s still searching for his life’s purpose while Hugo is an accomplished 45-year-old Brit living in the Hamptons. Why would Hugo be interested in guy like him? But fate seems to have a plan in store for them, and when destiny steps in, who are Matt and Hugo to stop its irresistible pull?

Confused

Ok, this book is included in the Audible plus catalog, so it was kind of free. It is advertised as a romance. I don’t consider this book a romance novel. The writing was good, I laughed out loud a few times. Teddy Hamilton was great as usual, but he could use a little work on his British accent.

Why I wasn’t a fan of the book:
*Spoiler alert*
The main characters don’t meet in person & speak to each other until the very end of the book. The way the description read, I assumed there would be some conflict between them because of the age difference, but nope. You get a brief epilogue that shows them together, but that’s it. How is that a romance novel?

Not funny

I love a funny rom com but this is just boring. Stale and humorless. Skip it.

Pure bliss <3

What a happy little accident it was to stumble upon this book! The perfect feel-good story, and the narrators both do a wonderful job giving a voice to the characters! Just be careful, your cheeks might twitch too from smiling <3

S.S. Fan over here 👋

Really enjoyed this story inspired by Sleepless in Seattle. It was fun, funny and light romance that kept me entertained while working in the yard yesterday. I didn't realize until now that this book was by the same person who wrote Bridesmates. Going to have to listen to When Harry Met Harry next!

Sweet and fun!

As a fan of Sleepless in Seattle, I recognized so many lines and feelings. This was such a great take on the story! I loved all of it. The narrator’s were fantastic (really, Teddy can do no wrong).

Lighthearted Romance

What I loved most about this story were it characters. Matt and his dog Bruno. Especially his regard for Bruno as a companion, not a possession. The sisters and how the sibling dynamics played out. adored Hugo and Raven. I loved the authenticity of their relationship. And the parrot! This was just a heart warming story which proved to be exactly what I needed today. This is one that I will read over and over again.

Delightful!

Though the story became somewhat predictable, every minute was worth listening to! Witty dialogue and great performances.

Cute story

A little sleepless in seattle-ish but still cute story. Kept my attention and had me rooting for the characters until the end.

Adorable

A very cute and cheesy love story to get lost in. Only criticism to make is that the actors didn't do there own parts when it was the others chapter. so the accent got lost a little 😅

OK

Personally I thought this was a little too much like 'Sleeping in Seatle' , but the narrators were good and I did finish it.

Cute but connection might be a bit surface level

3.5 Stars A MLM retelling of Sleepless in Seattle, (a movie I don't think I've ever seen) where a dog having social media influencer becomes enamoured then a little obsessed with a windowed equine vet he hears about over a true love podcast. I enjoyed this but there was something missing. I'm not sure what because the characters were really well developed considering the audio was only 5 hours long. I think there was a bit too much emphasis on their epic love story and yet very little time spent with them together.

Kinda cute, but missing the best parts

Fantastic performance from both voice actors!

SPOILERS...

I loved the characters and the meet-cute; I only wish they hadn't met in the last chapter.

It's an OK book, but it could've been a great memorable one if they met halfway and live an epic courtship.

🎧 Matt and Hugo 🎧

Story: A gay take on Sleepless in Seattle for the social media era. Sweet and wholesome with likeable characters and a cute dog.

Narration: Robbie Martino was new to me and easy to listen to. Teddy Hamilton is a firm favourite, but his "British" accent was painful. It floundered between South Africa and New Zealand, with England not even on the map.

Overall: I kept wishing it had been a duet narration, and just thankful it was included in the Plus membership so I hadn't used a credit on it.

Excellent

So generally I'm not a fan of books where they're retelling a classic but this one is excellent. Listened to it in 2 days. Great book. No explicit sex etc.

Loved!

I’m such a sucker for quirky, romance/RomCom stories. It’s so nice to finally find something that I can actually relate to, as a gay man. Great story, great performance by the narrators. Thank you Sydney Smyth! Can’t wait for the next book!

Love, when you know it

This a May-December we never met, but know we could fall in love story. Matt and Hugo find their hea with the help of Bruno, Raven and Matt his sister. Those who have seen 'Sleepless in Seattle' might recognize one of the major scenes in the book.
The narration was pleasant and fitted the characters well.

I loved this charming gay adaptation of Sleepless in Seattle!

Influencer, Matt Mazola and his famous bulldog, Bruno, are tiring of the endless media shoots when he hears a true-love podcast about a lonely British widower, Hugo James. Much engineered meddling by Matt’s sisters and Hugo’s daughter and a rendezvous at the Empire State Building and it might be true love again. I’ve really enjoyed Sydney Smith’s classic rom-com reimaginings and hope there will be many more. This PG-romance had lovely magical chemistry between the two leads, a plot that kept me interested the whole way through, and the cutest bulldog. Audio narrators, Teddy Hamilton (as Matt) and Robbie Martino (as Hugo) were perfect; Teddy is always excellent and Robbie’s genuine British accent was such a pleasure to listen to!
