Thanks to a series of unfortunate events - and one backstabbing frenemy - home is exactly where I'm headed. Back to Winterspell Lake, where magic runs rampant and humans are outlawed. Faster than you can say hocus pocus I'm unpacking my bags and settling into the guest room of my parents' house, trying to ignore the creeping sensation that I'll never break free again. The one thing Winterspell has going for it is the sweets shop in the center of town, a bakery filled with magical creations designed to enchant the taste buds and charm even the pickiest of connoisseurs.

Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

Christmas Parole, Squirrel Roomy, Bear Romance
I have never done a series with different authors, but I was lured in by the idea of Witches, Christmas, and Cozy. This is also my first book by Bella Falls. From a quick review of the summaries of the books in the series it looks like the various authors will write about the same character in each of their volumes, meaning Bella will always write about Aurora Hart, Danielle Garrett who is writing book two in the series will always write about Lumi Northrop, etc. So all the characters are in Holiday Haven, a fun town in the North Pole. Our protagonist Aurora is in Holiday Haven on parole. This story had a great cast quirky characters that were tons of fun and plenty of villains and folks abusing their power and making snap judgments about other folks. True love is instantaneous and friendships form immediately and will seemingly weather the tests of time. Overall, a fun, easy listen, with a guaranteed happy ending and sprinkles of magic throughout. The mystery is not really a mystery more of a we need to be able to prove it thing. But overall a pretty good start to a new holiday series. I must say one of the main reasons I have not read Bella before is because of her narrator Johanna Parker who sadly I just don't enjoy and for a while was making me dislike the story. I got this series anyway because I saw the other authors in the series who I love and also noticed the Johanna is only narrating Bella's books. We all have different voice/accent preferences that we can check through the sample and this is just not my cup of tea and at times it was just downright distracting. But for folks that like laidback supernatural cozy, with silly Christmas puns, light romance, and light magic this might be one to try out. Another quick note to share that the main story ends at Chapter 15 and then a short story (Humbug Holiday) starts at Chapter 16 through to the end.

Cute story narrator sounded bored.
I think the stories were really cute. Love the snooty sound to Mrs. Claus instead of sticky sweet. However the narrator for Aurora made her sound bored and disengaged to all of it. Even when she finally found her joy, made her sound monotone.

Bella Falls has crafted a sweet and wonderful holiday story. It’s filled with well developed characters who quickly seem to be friends. Johanna Parker gave a stellar performance as she brought it all together and to life. I’ve already purchased the next book/audiobook in the wonderful story. I highly recommend this to cozy paranormal fans.
