When you first enter The Halloween Store, things seem normal. Fun and frightful decorations, ghastly costumes and masks of the season, and bags of candy galore. Then, as you travel farther into its shadowy depths, things begin to change. The air smells of damp autumn leaves and candle-scorched pumpkin. The shelves of All Hallows’ Eve fare grow darker and more disturbing. Strange and unsettling things of Halloweens past and present lurk amid the cobwebs and dust....

Story
In the fall of 1993, the quiet suburb of Harting Farms is shocked when children begin to vanish, and one is found dead near December Park - a great, sweeping expanse that is sunken below the streets and surrounded on three sides by vast woodlands, a place children believe is haunted. Newspapers call the abductor the Piper because he has come to lead children away, while kids whisper darker names for him in the school halls. Angelo Mazzone and his friends discover a link to the dead girl and take up the search for the killer.

Story
The Westgate Galleria Mall was once a sprawling, shining monument to American consumerism and suburban growth. Now, it is a crumbling reminder of how both have fallen - an architectural ghost, haunting the outskirts of society. That makes it the perfect filming location for a YouTube channel devoted to the exploration of abandoned places. But the mall isn't as empty as it seems, and the residents have sinister obscene plans for them. Now, with the daylight still hours away, both the hunters and the hunted will fight to stay alive...and desperately try to make it home.

A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Slush is fun!
Slush, is a small volume of horror stories. Overall I found ‘Slush’ to be an enjoyable collection of short stories, and i felt like Glenn Rolfe is a name we will hear more from. 3 hrs and 27 mins goes fast away. In those almost 3 and half hours we get twelve stories, so there is no room for rest. Glenn Rolfe shows his versatility as a horror author, and that is one of the reasons i want to hear more from him! These stories made me feel all sorts of things, and not all of them hit me the right way, but still i wanted to hear more!
Joe Hempel is a good narrator! I enjoyed listening to his voice, and it change just the perfect way to the stories! Joe Hempel is just so fun to listen to, and his voice work is exelent, nothing negative about it, and i am a fan of him now. He is my top 10 narrators i have heard here, and that is saying something!

A great collection from a future star
Any additional comments?
This is Glenn Rolfe's slush pile, a collection of twelve dark and seductive dances. But don't mistake this for a collection of held over, dismissed, not ready for prime time cast aways. You will be bludgeoned by twelve heavy hitters. Twelve pins jammed into the hide of a voodoo doll.
Loss of youth and erosion of innocence are the common threads being spun throughout the spindle of these tales. With cursed items, cursed people, first loves, dark appetites, revenge, the unknown and the beyond being the blood that flows from the pinprick. Joe Hempel chaperons you through Glen's dark landscapes by candlelight, but tread lightly. The trail isn't always smooth and never is it straight, and Mr. Rolfe isn't guaranteed to match your pace. Just ask Parker Stephens.."

Good, but felt like the stories left me hanging.
Would you try another book from Glenn Rolfe and/or Joe Hempel?
Sure I would.
Who was your favorite character and why?
They were different stories so this question is really hard to answer.
Which scene was your favorite?
Probably the boy that found the coin.
Could you see Slush being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No, unfortunately I can't.
Any additional comments?
While the stories themselves were good, I felt as if the endings were lacking something. I guess I was kind of hoping for an ending like "The Twilight Zone" would have had. I believe that even Stephen King would have had a twist at the end of some sort? Regardless, they were still interesting.

Took me by surprise, not for the faint of heart
Where does Slush rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I enjoy Sci/Fi, fiction and horror, this is a wonderful book and would land into my favorites pile for short stories.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There were several great characters because this is a book of several short stories, and I didn't really have just one favorite... I enjoyed all the boys in the "Skull of Snakes" short because it brought me back to my youthful, bike riding days.
Which character – as performed by Joe Hempel – was your favorite?
Jackie boy
Who was the most memorable character of Slush and why?
Jackie boy, just listen to the story and you'll know why he's hard to forget
Any additional comments?
At first I thought this book wasn't going to be scary enough, party because of the short description and the narrators more refined voice (that's a good thing though). I really enjoyed the narration, I almost felt like "oh this guy sounds too smooth to be telling a really scary story" Then I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was wrong :). I like my horror with some dark, gritty descriptions, but not over the top. This book nailed it, as well as having a great narrator.

A well done collection of horror shorts!
Any additional comments?
I listened to this one on audio and painted my entire bedroom while listening. While painting is not my bag, at least I was thoroughly entertained. At just a hair under 3 and a half hours it was timed perfectly too. The narrator did a great job and the voice fit perfectly with the characters while not over or underacting the heavier parts.
All 12 of the tales in here were written very well and the collection was evenly paced with short to super short stories that flowed together nicely. The standouts for me here were: Jackie Boy, Halloween Worm and The Ballad of the Best Selling Author.
Overall, a very enjoyable read (listen) with some very solid shorts and some genuine “eww” moments. I look forward to reading and/or listening to more from Mr. Rolfe.

A Good Collection
What does Joe Hempel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Great Narration although not so sure about the female voices!
Any additional comments?
Firstly, I'm not a huge fan of horror but these short stories sounded too good to pass up.
I wasn't disappointed, this is a great collection of short stories and are somewhat thought provoking.
Feel like some of the stories were a little rushed and could have been developed more.
Some pretty twisted and detailed stories! , Jackie Boy.... xD.
