Publisher's Summary

Five years ago, the Lazy Dungeon Master offered a simplifed approach for preparing fantasy RPGs with one clear directive: Prepare only what most benefits our games. This focus on lightweight preparation and improvisational preparation resonated with many GMs over the past five years.

But during that time and with the release of the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the world of fantasy roleplaying has changed and expanded. With five years of new systems and new ideas, all GMs have a wealth of experiences to share and explore to help us prepare and run great RPGs.

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master builds off of the concepts of the well-received GM's guidebook Lazy Dungeon Master, updating that book with five years of new experiences, new approaches, and new observations of the way people prepare and run RPGs. This new book is a completely self-contained work, which does not require anyone to have previously heard the Lazy Dungeon Master.

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master offers a new focused approach for preparing and running our roleplaying games. The book includes an eight-step guide for lightweight game preparation and is focused on how we prepare for our games, how we run our games, and how we think about our games.

A fantastic resource for all GM's

this book has dramatically expanded and improved the way I prepare for games. the advice is sound and very practical. highly recommended. I also picked up a PDF to use as reference as the audio alone can be difficult to refer to during preparation

Very good overall

This is a very good guide to how to be a good dungeon master. My only caveat is that it is a tad misnamed as a guide for a "Lazy Dungeon Mater." Mostly the guide tells you what you need to do to run a good campaign but most of what it advises takes a significant amount of time. It does however include tips on how to cut down on a lot of that time.

Thus I'm a little torn on how to rate this. I think all the advice here is super solid but... definitely not for the lazy.

listened to it twice

I'm pretty busy and usually don't have time to work on my sessions nearly as much as I want to and after reading this book I feel a lot better about preparing less and getting more out of my normal day-to-day life while also being able to give a good experience to my players

Indispensable

Hosting a fantasy role playing game and taking on the responsibility of being the dungeon master can be a daunting task. Sly Flourish’s Return Of The Lazy Dungeon Master is an indispensable resource for getting the most out your preparation time and developing the ability to improvise at the table more effectively.

I cannot overstate how highly I recommend this book.

This is not my first time reading this book. In fact, I consider this and its previous incarnation, to be the most useful RPG book ever written. Rereading it helps me to be a better gamemaster.
I cannot overstate how highly I recommend this book. Its goal of helping gamemasters focus on what is important and helping the gamemaster become more flexible and ready to improv has improved my ability as a gamemaster by leaps and bounds.
Things I have personally taken note of for improving on after this reread: Be more structured with my game prep and follow the checklist so I don't overlook some of the steps. Use the campaign chapter to make the core of my campaign clearer and keep it more easily in mind. Before house ruling something first look if there is a way to address it in the fiction of the game world.

Great helpful listen

I have the book but got the audio book to take in the information when I don't have time to read. great for new and old DMs. I do wish Mike Shea read it too because I'm familiar with his YouTube videos but it was read well.

Concise and to-the-point

It's nice to see a game master guide which is completely stripped of everything superfluous and gets straight to a point without wasting your time AND offering useful advice. What else do you need?

5 stars with proper chapter details.

narrator's voice is easy to listen to. My only issue is I want to go back and listen to some of the sections but there are no meaningful names for the chapters.

Lots of padding

Good and useful ideas but could have been done in half the time without the uneccessary repetition.

A DM'S must have tool

Listen, or more usefully, physically read and flip your way through this book. Keep what you like, dump the rest.

There is a lot of wisdom here learnt the hard way. Don't reinvent the wheel. Reduce time and stress in prep for games, and gain the confidence to play at all.

I dropped one star because frankly, this is really hard to follow as an audio book. Get the physical copy or kindle version.

Well worth a listen!

Well read and easy to digest in the form of an audio book. Probably worth listening to a couple of times to have it digest

narrator needed to invest in a pop filter, too many unfiltered splosives. good reference material
