Publisher's Summary
When a sick friend asks Edward Lincoln to investigate the comprehensive failure of a string of racehorses, he agrees to help out. But it is impossible for him to go about the task quietly and unnoticed because he is now a world-class star of action films, in which he always plays the hero. And the apparently easy survey of the string of racehorses blows him through a smokescreen into circumstances, where, to survive, he has to make himself become the man everyone else already thinks he is.

my new favorite author
The story keeps you involved -- the author evidently does a lot of background research and weaves it into the story with unexpected twists. He keeps you interested without "sex scenes"

Francis was a great writter, his son will be!

Yes! It would be worth a second even a third listen.

One of Dick Francis's best!
You'll want to read this with a glass of water near by. You will find plenty of suspense in this story. The story takes place in Africa where the summers are brutally hot.. The main character is a down to earth actor who really has many admirable qualities. He must use ingenuity to stay alive when all these "accidents" keep happening to him. He finally figures out the motive for them but will he live to tell anyone about it? This story engrosses both male and female readers.

Less horses - just as gripping
A totally new scenario with racing only incidental to the story. Dick Francis showed his skill in researching new backgrounds, in this case movies and gold mining, but sets them in a complex story involving a large group of characters which includes a good supply of suspects.
The tension is maintained at the usual high, page turning, level.
I am rereading all of the series and thoroughly enjoying it. This is among the best.

Great story
Another great story and Tony Britton is superb as always. It ends a little abruptly, but all is good
