Story
In 1979, Wisconsin native Tim McBride hopped into his Mustang and headed south. He was 21, and his best friend had offered him a job working as a crab fisherman in Chokoloskee Island, a town of fewer than 500 people on Florida's Gulf Coast. Easy of disposition and eager to experience life at its richest, McBride jumped in with both feet. But this wasn't a typical fishing outfit.

This is the story of the most successful cocaine dealers in the world: Pablo Escobar Gaviria, Jorge Luis Ochoa Vasquez, Carlos Lehder Rivas, and Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha. In the 1980s, they controlled more than 50 percent of the cocaine flowing into the United States. The cocaine trade is capitalism on overdrive - supply meeting demand on exponential levels. Here you'll find the story of how the modern cocaine business started and how it turned a ragtag group of hippies and sociopaths into regal kings.

In 2008 veteran journalist Evan Wright, acclaimed for his New York Times best-selling book Generation Kill and co-writer of the Emmy-winning HBO series it spawned, began a series of conversations with super-criminal Jon Roberts, star of the fabulously successful documentary Cocaine Cowboys. Those conversations would last three years, during which time Wright came to realize that Roberts was much more than the de-facto “transportation chief” of the Medellin Cartel during the 1980s, much more than a facilitator of a national drug epidemic.

John Gotti was without a doubt the flashiest and most feared Mafioso in American history. He became the boss of the Gambino Crime Family in spectacular fashion. Not one to stay below law enforcement’s radar, Gotti instead became the first celebrity crime boss. His penchant for eye-catching apparel earned him the nickname “The Dapper Don;” his ability to beat criminal charges led to another: “The Teflon Don.” This is the captivating story of Gotti’s meteoric rise to power and his equally dramatic downfall.

Publisher's Summary
Roger Reaves grew up a poor farm boy in Georgia and went from making 'moonshine' to becoming one of the most prolific smugglers of the 20th century. He covered six continents, transporting 20 ton ship loads of hash, tons of cocaine, and completed more than 100 sorties across the US border with plane loads of marijuana. His friends and associates spanned the globe - from Medellin Cartel kingpins Jorge Ochoa and Pablo Escobar, to "Mr. Nice" Howard Marks and the infamous Barry Seal who was Roger's close friend and employee. He escaped from prison on five separate occasions; was shot down in both Mexico and Colombia; and tortured almost to death in a Mexican prison. Despite it all, Roger still has a twinkle in his eye as he recounts his life story. And you have probably never heard of him...till now.

By far the best autobiography I’ve ever read. First heard about Roger Reeves on the Lex Fridman podcast and was instantly intrigued. This led me to purchase the audible book. I was not disappointed. I’m so grateful that Roger is finally home with his family.
P.S. I have never left a review but I was so moved by his story I felt compelled to share a review and encourage others to buy the book.

Great telling of an interesting life…
The author narrates his own life story, a very interesting one at that. Some of the other reviews spoke negatively about this, but I will give up a little fluidity in the story to have it told in the authors own authentic voice. The story does jump around from time to time but it really didn’t bother me much…it’s a rich story that I really enjoyed, definitely worth a listen!

Just getting started listening but,
Ever since I watched Mr. Reaves interview with Lex Friedman I wanted to buy the book but, wasn’t able and I kept looking on audible for it too. Knowing that if Mr Reaves actually read the book himself it’d be an even greater read. So sure enough they finally got it on Audible and The Man with the golden voice (from my part of the world) is, reading it himself! Halaluyah!

Yea he's not an author, so what?
I have seen a few negative reviews on this book about "how it wasn't well written", "poor plot", etc. Sure, Roger Reaves isn't a true "author", but this is basically his memoirs. Sure it rambles a little from time to time, but this man has done more adventurous stuff in his life than the majority of us could even dream of.
Bottom line, I found it highly entertaining, and I'm glad Mr. Reaves was able to share this.

The stories of adventure are riveting and the author has a natural talent for a good yarn.

Me, my Dog and Roger Reeves
I go out early with my beagle Alfie for long 10 mile walks, he’s getting on a bit now in years and our walks have gone from 15/12 miles to 10’s because he’s slowing down as we all are.
I found the Smuggler and Rogers real and friendly voice has kept me hooked on his life of action, drug smuggling and, massive high’s and cavernous depths. I’ve found myself out for hours and doing extra walks and extra miles to listen to what happens next.
Excellent narration from Roger himself , sad but Roger stay’s upbeat no matter what it seems.

Thanks so much for sharing your life story, as hard as it is to believe in part. As a fellow pilot you made my heart race and my mouth grin describing your many close calls.
